as i sometimes do not realy know if theres a download running now or not
everything is so tiny
like the import window when loading a scene would be nice
It is supposed to be able to run in the background. There is a progress bar on the bottom right, and the Thumbnails for the products themselves show progress as they change from grayscale to color.
I think many people, myself included, would like a much more visual way to see what the system is doing. Alot of us grew up during the windows XP era and kind of got used to seeing progress bars in little popup windows showing us that the computer wasn't just ignoring us again :)
Maybe a Connect or "maintenance" pane in Studio with a few buttons and progress bars for export/import userdata, backup userdata, download progress, that could be opened or closed using the "Windows>Panes" menu.Something like that would be pretty awesome.
When a window pops up, based on Daz Studio experience, I stop work out of habit. On a single screen system this would be even more likely as it is blocking part of the interface. Remember what you are looking at has two progress indicators, and is designed to allow you to keep working while it is working (unlike most things that Daz Studio is doing.)
Daz_Rawb mentioned this in another post.
I believe the problem a few of you are having is that the official product metadata has been migrated to a userdata table. This is causing data collisions that result in table corruption.
If I understood him correctly, they are working on a way to try and attempt a rescue of those tables with a script.
I didn't have any issues when I re-imported my userdata for 4.8 to 4.9. I didn't have any of mine saved as product data, and I didn't migrate any of the premade tables to my custom catagories.I also didn't use any of the premade tables to add my custom changes. I made a new table directly under "Categories" on the Content Library, and that is where I made all my changes.
Well, that's not the case for my issue, since I was starting with fresh custom categories (made in Content Library view) and Categorizing via right clicking in either the Content Library or Smart Content. I did not make Products from any of the items that are missing.
I made my categories exactly the same way you did. But anything that is available via Daz Connect isn't showing up in those categories.
as far as I know, the whole store is available through connect.Connect is just a downloader/installer like DIM.There are , I think, 6 products that can only be downloaded through Connect only currently.
The screenshots you provided don't make it real clear what you are missing.Which ones specificly aren't showing up for you? Have you tried re-importing metadata?
Genesis 3 Male and Female in the screenshots. I'll re-upload them.
When I categorized them using Content Library, they didn't show up in my Figures Category. (Picutre 1)
When I went back to People/Genesis 3/Female - there she was, and when I selected her to try categorizing her again, it said she was already categorized the way I want her to be. (Picture 2)
When I went looking for her in Smart Content, I could (eventually, after scrolling through half the mess) find her in Smart Content (Picture 2)
Now, Daz Connect doesn't think I have Genesis 3 Essentials installed, because I installed it through DIM some time ago. When I go to Available Products on the Products tab of the Smart Content panel, it's there, nicely grayed out.
It was only when I categorized her from Smart Content that she appeared in my custom Category correctly.
I then decided to categorize my Shaders - (note, I do not have screen shots for this.)
The AoA Subsurface Shader - Not installed according to Daz Connect - Did not categorize until I found it in Smart Content.
Designer Tiles - Not installed according to Daz Connect - Isn't even showing up in Smart Content at all. Not showing up in Categories
Leather Factory - Not installed according to Daz Connect - not showing up at all in Smart Content or Categories
Anything that is Grayed out on Products, and therefore Daz Connect thinks is not installed, is Not Categorizing.
I don't see how I can state that any clearer.
Now, I have not yet tried re-importing Metadata (just started that now). However, considering that I had just re-imported Metadata when I installed 4.9, I didn't think it would be neccisary again so soon.

I have the G3F and G3M and the AoA stuff to rty out, but I don't have the others.
In this screenshot I added a new table called Characters to "My cutsom Content" ( yes I know it's spelled wrong, I'll fix that another day :) )
Then I drag-n-droped the 2 G3 figures into my new table. It worked for me,,So thats not going to be much help for you :(
All the others I tried worked for me aswell, Sorry I can't be of much more help.Maybe one of the Daz_ people will be able to help you out more than I can.
Okay, re-importing Metadata (again) seems to have solved it.
But
I'm also going to log back in through DS and see if that messes things up. I know it shouldn't, but considering that the first time I logged in, the only things after metadata updates that was grayed out were Genesis 3 Essentials and the Genesis 3 Female Ranger outfit, and then the second time I logged in and it did a metadata update, a lot more products were grayed out, I'm curious to see what a new log in (and potential metadata update) will do. I'm not hopeful for it to work as intended.

You can file a feature request, though I will point out (like I always do) that filing a feature request does not give you a timetable and the feature may or may not be implemented.

Yes and no.The products I previously discovered an issue with? DS 4.9 still thinks those are installed.
But others? Now Grayed out in products as uninstalled and not showing in categories. - Edit to add - though it's not consistant, because at least one product is grayed out as uninstalled, but still showing up okay.
Still, this does not encorage me to log in to Daz Connect.
Little miffed it updated 4.8 to 4.9 and didn't install 4.9 seperatly.. as I've lost all my Custom Product catagories to all the downloaded content I've gotten from free sites..
Now I have to trove through all the directories and redo it all, wasting my time :/
Look for an icon named Local User. Click on that and you will see your stuff more than likely. I'm a bit put off by this bug myself but as previously stated I'm not going to get my blood pressure up over a bunch of digital content. PITA to say the least but other things to do... I'm sure DAZ will fix it.... SOON! ;-)~
Seem to either not understand how this works or there is a glitch. I got Lynsey as a freebie since my cart was over the amount needed to aquire a copy of her for free.
If I do a search for installed products she doesn't show even though I dowloaded and installed all of the non connect products yesterday (boy that was fun with all the server slow downs) but she of course is a Connect only product.
Now if I do a search for her via the ALL tab she comes up as a gray icon with the option to install.
Does this mean I won't be double charged for her if I click that or is this a glitch you guys need to look into?
Shouldn't Connect automatically install these purchased products for us?
I see NOTHING under pending nor updates, blank and blank!

It is under available, which means that you own it but don't have it installed. With one exception Daz Connect waits for you to tell it to do things. It automatically updates Metadata (Smart Content) for you. All new products, and all product updates, you have to tell it to install.
It can't charge you without you telling it to do so in the store tab, never above the line.
Sorry about the confusion, I hope that clears it up for you.
Spooky, is there a fix for getting my User dats properly put back into place again? See 4 posts above this one to see what I'm talking about.... Thank you!

Did you file a ticket?
Getting to the bottom of this is my team's top priority, but there are lots of questions that we are going to need to ask to get to the bottom of this. Sorry.
Note that when I do the migration, I get 100% of my custom metadata, 100% of the time (And I have lots, because like most of Daz 3D's customers, I like to organize things my way. LOL And I was a customer long before I started working here. :)
What are the official installation paths with DAZ Studio 4.9?
- for DAZ Connect Data
- for DAZ Studio Formats
- for Poser Formats
They should automatically be created\listed when you perform a clean installation.
What I can observe is that the recommended path for DAZ Studio Format files in the DIM is not the default path used in the DAZ Studio 4.9 General Release!
- - -
Preparation:
Before starting the test installation
- I uninstalled all files with the DIM
- I uninstalled the DIM in the windows app management
- I manually deleted all remaining files in C:\Users\USERENAME\AppData\Roaming\DAZ 3D
- I manually deleted all DAZ Studio libraries
- - -
- - -
Test Reinstallation:
In the DIM the recommend path is
Documents\My DAZ 3D Library
- - -
- I installed DAZ Studio 4.9 General Releasewith the DIM
- I checked the Content Directory Manager
DAZ Connect Data
Documents/DAZ 3D/Studio/My DAZ Connect Library
DAZ Studio Formats
Documents/DAZ 3D/Studio/My DAZ Library
Poser Formats
Documents/DAZ 3D/Studio/My DAZ Library
- - -
- I installed the latest DAZ Studio 4.9 Public Release (Beta)
- I checked the Content Directory Manager
DAZ Connect Data
Documents/DAZ 3D/Studio/My DAZ Connect Library
DAZ Studio Formats
Documents/DAZ 3D/Studio/My DAZ Library
Documents\My DAZ 3D Library
Poser Formats
Documents/DAZ 3D/Studio/My DAZ Library
Documents\My DAZ 3D Library
- - -
This means:
- Users that install content directly inside DAZ Studio with DAZ Connect will not have any issues.
- Users that install content with the DIM will NOT find it in the General Release because in the Content Directory Manager the DIM path was not added to DAZ Studio and Poser formats.
Issue 1: The default installation path in the DIM leads to a complety different folder
The official path used for DAZ Studio file formats in the General Release is not the same path as used in the DIM.
Documents\My DAZ 3D Library is used in the DIM by default
Documents/DAZ 3D/Studio/My DAZ Library is used by DAZ Studio by default
Issue 2: Differences between General and Public Release
This "issue" may not have been discovered in the BETA because for some weird reason the Beta version of DAZ Studio seems to automatically add the DIM path as well.
- - -
At the moment it seems recommended to double check the DIM and DAZ Studio default install locations to make sure they actually match and are added in the Content Directory Manager.
- - -
Can anyone else confirm this behavior of the default installation?
BTW:
Issue 3: The wiki page should probably also be updated.
There the recommended path is still
C:\users\[your user account]\My Documents\DAZ 3D\Studio\My Library
This means while searching around for the answer I discovered three different default installation paths for DAZ Studio file formats.
Two actually used by the DIM and DAZ Studio and one obsolete location on the wiki page.
- - -
That considered installing with DAZ Connect really seems to be the prefered solution because all those errors with setting the wrong path in the DIM should now be a thing of the past.
- - -
Those are whatever your previous content location settings were, not the clean-install defaults. I believe they're stored in the registry, not in AppData.
- It could be that I forgot to use CCleaner to clean the registry.
but in any case
Those paths are NOT my previous content location settings.
When I manually set my path I
- put them on the D drive and not the C drive.
- always placed the files under USERNAME and not the PUBLIC documents...
However it could be that once some custom paths are set the mechanism to create installation paths is not anymore working as originally intended and maybe mixing up C and PUBLIC locations with default user folder names...
- - -
Point 1:
So if they are NOT the clean installation paths can then please tell me someone
what the clean-install defaults are supposed to be?
- - -
Point 2:
Am I the only one to realize that this recommended default installation path for the DIM is not a good idea?
Documents\My DAZ 3D Library
It should be
Documents\COMPANYNAME\APPLICATIONNAME\LIBRARYNAME
Documents\DAZ 3D\Studio\My DAZ 3D Library
IF you really want to drive the point home which application was used to install then it could be
Documents\DAZ 3D\Studio\My DIM Library
Documents\DAZ 3D\Studio\My DAZ Connect Library
- - -
I did write down what I observed. To truely test how default installation works one would need a completly new pc on which the DIM and DAZ Studio were never installed before.
I will go back to manually setting my paths and double checking them in the Content Directory Manager.
- - -
Suggestion:
A lot of installation issues may be prevented when at the first start of DAZ Studio a window would ask the users to confirm the default installation paths for
DAZ Connect Data
DAZ Studio Formats
Poser Formats
Submitted a ticket: Request #210656
To me it now has happened several times that I simply forgot to check the paths especially when switching from Public Beta to General Release and vis versa. Users may start to download products before actually manually updating the paths in the Content Directory Manager.

Your login status doesn't really have anything to do with your custom categories.
Have you filed your help ticket yet?
Maybe your problem is similar to someone else and they can get you sorted out a bit more quickly.

The login status might actually have something to do with it, depending on how the custom categories were created. If they are created by adding it to the "vendor data" then loging in will cause a metadata update and it will remove any vendor data that does not agree with the store. If it is saved as user data then nothing goes away when the store updates the metadata to "fix it."
As far as the database is concerned, vendor data is controlled by the store, user data is controlled by the customer.

Upgraded with no particular problems. The one thing I particularly want right now is a way to get rid of that bright green "Login" button that I will never click.
Actually an easy one. Can't remove it, but you can make it more polite.
Window menu > Style > Customize Style...
Select All or 2. Accents on left, then see 11. Special Interest Color on right – that mint teal beast. Change it to a medium grey, click Accept (feel free to change other colors!) and the button blends into the interface without screaming at your eyes.

I stand corrected then :)
:) It isn't just you.
It took two days of looking, on my part, to figure out that some people are doing that. It probably accounts for about half of the situations where the migration isn't working, but I can't tell for sure without more tickets. :)

I don't understand the difference. Perhaps you could explain?
And I have a ticket open regarding the PostGre SQL error, which I am suddenly getting now with the release version, but did not get at all during the beta... and it seems to be causing me Connect issues.

How do you create custom categories that are added to the vendor data? Is there a way to do that in DAZ Studio?
I have a lot of custom categories I've created using the Categorize commands in the Content Library. When I export the user data it now writes 3 files for all the data, so I don't think any of that is in the vendor data.

Didn't create with Vendor data, at least I don't think I did. It's been a while since I created categories in the Database Editor (about the time I realized they changed my User Categories to Non-User Categories - which I guess is the Vendor Data) and I've wiped my custom categories at least twice since then (I keep ending up not happy with how I have them organized about 1/3 of the way through)
It appears to be down to just some products, since Mariah's Leatherize seems to be working fine, and that's "not installed" according to Daz Connect. My installed version of 3DC Lola is in Lost and Found according to her categories (though she doesn't show up there either), so I'm thinking it may be limited to "broken" products
I can take a bunch more screen shots and submit a ticket, if you think it will help. (Be warned, my patience is thin with Tech Support not actually reading my complaint - which has happened more than once here at DAZ)
YaY :) , glad it worked, now lets hope it stays that way.
Well, it ran a metadata update. Did it work as intended?
Yes and no.The products I previously discovered an issue with? DS 4.9 still thinks those are installed.
But others? Now Grayed out in products as uninstalled and not showing in categories. - Edit to add - though it's not consistant, because at least one product is grayed out as uninstalled, but still showing up okay.
Still, this does not encorage me to log in to Daz Connect.

If you do, make sure you mention that it is a ticket I asked for, concerning the database issues. :)

How do you create custom categories that are added to the vendor data? Is there a way to do that in DAZ Studio?
I have a lot of custom categories I've created using the Categorize commands in the Content Library. When I export the user data it now writes 3 files for all the data, so I don't think any of that is in the vendor data.
There is a way to do it in DS 4.8 and earlier. It was never intended as a customer tool, but apparently it has been used that way. Your way should produce user data, and that should correctly migrate.
Comments
When a window pops up, based on Daz Studio experience, I stop work out of habit. On a single screen system this would be even more likely as it is blocking part of the interface. Remember what you are looking at has two progress indicators, and is designed to allow you to keep working while it is working (unlike most things that Daz Studio is doing.)
However, considering that I had just re-imported Metadata when I installed 4.9, I didn't think it would be neccisary again so soon.
all very tiny as i said
Thank you DaWaterRat, that helps out a lot :)
It worked for me,,So thats not going to be much help for you :(
All the others I tried worked for me aswell, Sorry I can't be of much more help.Maybe one of the Daz_ people will be able to help you out more than I can.
i hope people do not mix here the understanding of categories
content library categories and
smart content categories
are not the same as i think

Actually, they are. Custom Categories show up on the Smart Content tab organized exactly the same as they are in the Content Library categories.
ok so an option for the many 2 screeners like me ?
YaY :) , glad it worked, now lets hope it stays that way.
You can file a feature request, though I will point out (like I always do) that filing a feature request does not give you a timetable and the feature may or may not be implemented.
Correct.

Thanks Spooky. I'll hit the install button then!

I stand corrected then :)
