Where can I download studio 4.8

I installed studio 4.9 and when I finally connected to daz connect all my user categories disappeared

I want to remove 4.9 and install 4.8, but I cannot find 4.8 in DIM or my product library or is there on daz3D.com a archive of past studio installs

Don't think you can; unless you backed it up somewhere.

Contact customer service and request a previous version to 4.9.

Those of us who have it are not allowed to share it, sorry.

    Have you tried Re-Importing metadata?

Quite simply you can no longer (legally) download 4.8 since 4.9 was released. I checked that I still have the 4.8 instalation files, and thankfully I do, so I'm safe in that respect. Perhaps you should check whether or not you have them too.

  • Is there a specific reason why Daz doesn't make older versions of Studio available? I would like to try 4.9 but I'd like the option of keeping 4.8 as well. I used DIM to upgrade last time so I don't think I have the 4.8 zip saved.

Yes: they want you to use the latest version.

Getting people tu use the latest version has always been their policy. One of the main reasons was that .daz files created in a version of DS could not be opened in an earlier version. Introducing the .duf format solved most of those problems, but you still see posts of people using 4.0.x wondering why they couldn't find .duf files, or users of 4.7 wondering why their materials didn't work when those were made for Iray, or complaining about an issue which got fixed in more recent versions.

Moreover if they provided earlier versions of DS they'd have to provide earlier versions of plugins too, and also provide support for those versions.

After installing DS 4.9 you will have  DS 4.9 and that was it, no way to go back or you have all you zips you need for reinstalling DS 4.8 saved.

and that is a worse policy especally we the costumers can never be sure that our old content will work without trouble after installing a new DS version or we got other trouble with their new software.

    support hahahahaha

I have written a lot of tickets because of some errors in DS 4.8 on SubD Algos and Geometric shells, yes, they have fixed it, but not in an update for 4.8 but only if you download 4.9 great support by DAZ, thanks, no way, I will not install 4.9 better having DS4.8 with errors.

I did not download 4,9 (except the beta, which, they assured, would work side-by-side with 4,8), but still the 4,8 install file mysteriously disappeared. Totally unhappy with that.

  • In DIM? Are you sure it's gone and not just not showing in the UI (though even if 4.9 is showing in Ready to Download I think 4.8 should be shopwing in Installed).

  • cherpenbeckcherpenbeck Posts: 1,416

Absolutely sure. It even shows me 4,9 as installed, but when I open it, there is still 4,8-

That's almost true- I had 4.8 installed on D drive. I had renamed the folder DAZ 4.8.  Then 4.9 installed there on D drive too, but it is simply Daz so it didn't seek out the 4.8 version as it couldn't find a folder named that, is my guess.    All I know is I have both 4.8 and 4.9.   Richard, does that make sense?

Have you looked at the actual zips, in the downloads folder?

  • cherpenbeckcherpenbeck Posts: 1,416

Yes, of course. No 4.8 zip. Just the 4.9, which shows as IM00012000-02_DAZStudio49PublicBuildWin64bit, not beta, even though I downloaded the beta explicetely.

    DIM is showing this:

No its not DIM just renames it to 4.9 when you boot up DIM.....If you look in the directory your 4.8 is still there but it is calling it 4.9 (that is unless you do download the non beta). I noticed that and I didn't download anything at all. What happens is DIM updates the DSX files that DIM uses to figure out what needs to be updated everytime you open it up. When it does that it changes the name (only with in the DIM download menu of the item that need updating. So if you look in the directory where you actually have DIM putting the Files you will see it there.

I hope I caught you in time so you don't think that you did mess things up!

If you download the non Beta then 4.8 will be lost. you should back up your DIM before doing anything and your content directory!!!!

I even double checked this again...(when I open up DIM and don't log on (work offline) it says I have 4.8 installed and when I am online is says I have 4.9 installed. Almost reminds me of that little Update to windows 10 thing I had to get rid of...lol

The file name for the 4.8 install is IM00013176-02_DAZStudio48Win64bit.zip

lol oh and hey sorry for looking into the directories I like to know whats going on..

sorry I had this in another thread to you. sorry for the repost in this one...

    DIM is showing this:

Ignore DIM. Go to "Public Documents>DAZ 3D>InstallManager>Downloads" and search for DAZStudio48. My DIM is also showing 4.9 as installed, but the files in the DIM downloads folder still show 48. Be sure and copy both the .dsx and .zip files to a backup location. I've never tried going back to an earlier version, but a semi-educated guess is you'd uninstall 4.9, close the DIM, remove the corresponding .dsx and .zip files from the downloads directory, copy the 4.8 files back into the downloads directoy, reopen the DIM, and then reinstall 4.8... But I'm only guessing on that.

Fortunately, I haven't made the move to 4.9 yet. Probably won't until I can get a faster internet connection... My "up to 40Mbps" DSL connection is still hovering at about 1.5Mbps. Three miles from downtown in the second largest city in Oregon... you'd think they'd upgrade the equipment! C'est la vie.

Yea thats what I found too....if you open up DIM and work offline those same installs will still be called 4.8 and when you open up DIM and are logged on its called 4.9

You are right with using the DIM offline. It shows now I installed 4.8.

But 4.8 is still missing in my zip-files. It somehow dissappeared into thin air.

write to the support team, maybe they give you a link to a download option for these zips. They gave me one for 4.6 after I had problems with 4.8 (which what I use now) because their link did not work. It shows up as 4.6 but was 4.8 :) But it should have been 4.6 the daz support team has written as I have let them know about this. For some reason 4.6 turned in 4.8 on my machine even it was a 4.6 installer :)

Question on the rename issue, which folder have you renamed so DAZ 4.9 do not seek out 4.8? And have just renamed this folder and everything else worked fine or do you had to change more?
