Psst.
DAZ.
Yes, you...
DAZ.
Please.
Don't.
Ever.

Are.
...you know...
FREE.
It's really, terribly annoying and confusing, on top of round 43 of the daily semi-confusing sale conditions. I hope I've made my point with this really, terribly annoying format.
Try "Bonus Weekend" next time. These products are NOT free, they are an included bonus of buying other products. Naming the sale itself "Free" implies that there's something to be had which is...um, free.

Eh, same to me as Buy One, Get One Free. Getting something free with purchase is a long standing marketing thing.
But all those sales start with the word "Buy," not "Free."
Yeah I found it annoying when it says Free Weekend and Free New Releases on the scolling ad you think cool.. It is not till you click the ad that it hits you with a buy Free Weekend item and get 3 selected items free you go nup no thanks..
I may have bought something but the selected free items did not float my boat..
that does not make it better
i got you in jail and you can live there for free
I also found this really annoying. It says "Free Weekend" but thats not the case! Its buy 1 get some free. This is incredibly misleading advertising - what I've come to expect from Daz.
And they say in defense of Daz Connect that they have no intention to deceive or mislead people.... Yeah, right!
You mean like this? :)

I have no problem with the marketing ploy of buy one, get one free (BOGO) but I have to agree with the OP. The banner on the catalog page is misleading.
Nowhere on that banner does it say purchase required. That banner implies the new releases on the linked to page are free. There should be an asterisk after "Free New Releases" and somewhere on the banner should be "*New Release purchased required." And maybe it should be called 3 Free Weekend...
Not that I think the actual sale is bad. Three free—new!—products for the purchase of one new release is really good, even if they only work with 4.9 and DAZ Connect. But having a banner proclaiming a Free Weekend linking to a page that has a purchase required to get the "free" items has the feel of "bait and switch" and will inevitably cause problems. Some might go so far as to call it false advertising. And that can only make DAZ look bad.
Simply put, advertising needs to be clear on both banners and sales pages. Confusion causes bad feelings. And I'm pretty sure that is not DAZ's goal.
Yes - exactly like that. Thats what the initial banner should say! Obviously once you drill down into it you get the real info, but the initial banner ad is very misleading. You're just proving my point.
If a shopkeeper put an ad up in their window saying "Shop for free!" and then when you got inside you found out that it wasn't free at all but was just a BOGOF sale I'm pretty sure they'd be forced to take that sign down.
So it says that you have to buy through connect....does that mean you have to buy the one product through Daz Studio? There's a connect menu. Or can you log in to your account and buy the item and then use the connect option to install? Or how are you suppose to do this? I just don't want to buy and item and then not get the free items.
It does say "See Promo Page for Details" on the banner.
By that logic you could just put up ads saying "Free Money for all! See promo page for details" everywhere and then on the promo page just write something completely different. Maybe some people would be ok with that, but I consider it dishonest.
The main advert says "FREE". If Daz was an Australian company, they'd be prosecuted and fined for misleading advertising.
Buy normally, the Connect-only item(s) will then be available through the content panes in DS 4.9 or the Offline Authorisation packages in your Product Library (you'd still need to have connected Ds to Daz at least onmce to use the offline pacakages). Any other items will be available there or via DIM or via the Product Library as either plain zips or offline Autorisation packges.
You buy them through the store and then install via Connect. What they meant on the page is that those free products can be downloaded only via Connect, not via DIM or manual download.
"Buy" and "Free" are opposites. Any time you have to buy something, you aren't getting anything for free. Advertisers can twist the language all they want, that's never going to change.
Thanks. I put everything I wanted in my cart and the free items showed as zero dollars as I had a qualifying item in my cart too. So I completed my purchase.
I have to agree with the OP, I saw the e-mail and thought to myself awesome even though I don't use connect then I saw the further details. Nope not for me.
At least on Thursday you got the free items by buying from a store wide list of items. Naturally you had to spend $49, but with DO's at 75% off (pro packs thus only $35) and everything else at 50% off, it was not tricky to find something you wanted.
Today you get to choose from just 6 items at 30% off, and whilst there is nothing wrong with that list, I personally have no great interest in any of them
Thank god, I found this forum so I can stop searching for the free item...it could have taken ALL WEEKEND!
Getting something because you bought something is called a "Bonus".
Had no problems understanding the details of this when I read the email this morning. I knew what I had to do to get these 3 "free" items. Although in another thread....DAZ Steve mentioned that these "free items" was an "enticement" to sell the idea of DAZ Connect to users, I fail to see how that is remotely akin to "enticement". Whether or not I want DC I get these items if I buy a new item that can still be downloaded via DIM. How does that equal to people actually accepting DC?
For me this is the upside of DAZ 4.9 and the direction they are headed. I'll save myself a couple hundred dollars a month and no longer have to try and decipher their convoluted sales structure since I'll no longer be purchasing items from DAZ.
I'm disappointed. I thought I was getting something for free, without having to buy something (which could've possibly made me try out Daz Connect)... But, oh no... You still have to spend money... It's a great way of conning(? not sure if that was the word I was aiming for... enticing?...forcing?) people into trying Daz Connect though. Keep this up and you will drive away your customers.
If Daz isn't sure, the definition of free is "without cost or payment" (check Google).
I also noticed on FB that DAZ3D says that it's getting great feedback about 4.9, which I don't doubt, but your forums contradict that statement ever so slightly.
If there was any tone of sarcasm in there, I can't really help it because I'm frustrated (and disgusted) at the way Daz seem to be burying their head in the sand at how it's customers feel. People are cancelling their subscriptions... Surely that must mean something?
I can't help but wonder that when the next figure is released, Daz will have him (or, most likely a her) as Daz Connect only...
Hahahaha! Love it!
Normally when I see adverts where you get X if you buy Y, they are pretty clear about Buy One/Get One Free, or 'Free with Purchase' or whatever.
It is not cool in any OTHER sphere to bury the requirements behind links or 'see X for more information.'
It's not the end of the world, but reputation is maintained. And stuff like this erodes. (Along with stuff like 'Free Content Weekly' ads all over when they actually mean 'until you've been here a while and got all the free stuff we offer')
I imagine the mods here are sick of hearing permutations of this complaint. Guess what, we're sick of having to make them.
