Looking to upgrade my videocard within the next ~6 months
in The Commons
Hi all, I'm currently using a GTX 780 and rendering is my secondary hobby... My main one being gaming. With the Oculus Rift and the HTC Vive releasing, I think it's time to loosen my deathgrip on my wallet and upgrade my GPU. I'm looking around for cards that are a combination of good for rendering a gaming. Luckily they both are fairly similar.

This one catches my eye, as I try to buy higher end cards to last me a few years. On that price point do you know of any NVidia GPUs that would be better for rendering? Cheers.

nVidia will be releasing new cards based on the "Pascal" architecture sometime soon. More and faster memory will be a great benefit for IRay.

Yeah, I know that with computers, something better is always just around the corner, but in this case I'm definitely waiting to see what Pascal cards nVidia releases.
I recently bought a similar card (the EVGA 980ti FTW) and there is a pretty substantial jump in speed from my old GTX 760. There's still the usual delay when you first begin a render as Iray calculates the objects and textures, but once it begins, it's quick.
The reason why I didn't wait for Pascal is that I think they're likely to be too expensive at launch (and there's talk that we may not see them for sale until very late this year or early next year). I'm actually hoping their release will bring down the prices of 980ti and Titans because I'd like to add a second card in the future.
edit: Oh, you said gaming is your first hobby...well, I know that Assassin's Creed Syndicate wants about 6 GB of video memory to run with very high settings, so if you get a 980ti of some kind, it will handle it. Many games will run with decent settings at 4K with a 980ti too, but 4K gaming is generally still too taxing for most systems (even Titans have trouble running the Witcher 3 with max settings at 4K)
