She looks fantastic there, J Cade! MUCH better than in the official promos and has made me take a closer look at her.
With the lighting, did you use your own there, or a commercially available set? I really like how she looks.
It's okay, if they fire you we will riot and protest for losing our super fun character theories source (and also maker of some of my favourite hairs but really it's all about the Izabella mystery.)
Didn't buy the bundle, but bought two characters and your hair - love it.
Heres some freshly baked cheese.
I like Gia 7 although I like Gia 6 better. Gia 6 looks like she means business. Gia 7 is a bit softer in appearance. Is it just me or does she look like a mix between Karen and Victoria?
A plain J promo don't sell a pack or what its capable of. Promos tend to be what is capable with the product.
In this case, I disagree. The promos turned me off, with all the heavy makeup. j cade's simple plain render made me reconsider. If I purchase Gia 7, it will because of that render, and in spite of the promo images.
Right but you have at least 5+ images per product. Why can't the last image be a default settings labelled image?
Here's another example: 2 gorgeous characters with lots of nice renders, made by the same people in the same timespan. Which set of promos shows off the features better?

Weirdly no-makeup version still isn't shown at any point, but look at how so many options are displayed - still in an attractive layout - highlighting such variety. Speaking for myself, I think that Uma is really, really pretty, but I have lots of pretty figures. The egyptian girls made me sit up and think 'I need to buy one of these right now.'
I just can't see any argument why every single one of the many promo images has to be the same style/thing. EVERY time a new character has been released in the past 6 months or so there has been a thread about the character filled with customers doubting the promos and wanting to see what they actually look like. You can still have 7 stylised promos, a makeup sheet, and a default sheet and have the best of both worlds for everyone.
Thanks for posting this. Texture/map quality is the determining factor on whether I buy these characters or not, and it's usually tough to tell when there are no promotional pictures showing the base texture - so my default is to pass on new characters in absence of having any good idea of the quality of the maps. Thus I appreciate it when people post what these characters' texture sets really look like. And Gia's looks like it's got very good detail once you scrape off the makeup.
Knowing that I like a bit more natural, thicker brows, indeed I am disappointed in Gia's, but for the reason IMO they are a bit jagged and overplucked. In one of the renders here, it even appears a small section (in the shape of a V) is whittled out of it. Go to the third thumbnail of Gia 7 and click to enlarge. The little "v" occurs where the hair changes direction, I think. In other renders, it doesn't appear to be that noticeable.
The character vendors in the Pro pack did a very nice job. Anyone render Uma on GF3 without Gia?
Have to agree about the ponytail-style hair. Not sure if I'll be getting Gia now or later (there are some aspects to her face which I could see being useful as dial-in options for any original characters), but I absolutely shall be getting that particular hair, regardless.
Would also be interested in a smaller variety of ponytail hair, if vendors are wondering. Something military female characters could potentially have (such as a pilot), rather than most of those presently available in the store, which are for more fashionable styling purposes.
Not impressed with Gia 7 and have no real need for her, so I doubt I'll buy her. However, the Geneva Hair looked interesting, but I have a problem with it: the product page shows it at $9.78 (51% off), but after adding it to my cart, it automatically switches to $13.97 (30% off). Anyone else having this issue? If it's not really 51% off, then I won't be buying it. Other 51% off items for Gia 7 stay that way after adding them to the cart (for example, the Gladiator Goddess outfit), but others (like Ironman13's chariot) refuse to cooperate.
I like the various footwear in the 4 clothing products in the bundle... esp. love the Giddy Up cowgirl boots.
The price for the Geneva hair, currently listed as $9.78 in the promo pages, goes up to $13.78 when I put it in my cart. Might just be a glitch in the system though as earlier it wasn't like this. I've deleted it from cart and re-added, but it remains as $13.78. Same issue for the morning workout poses. Anyone else experiencing this?
I'm still on the fence about Gia 7. The promos did nothing for me, but after seeing J Cade's render here, I got more interested. Then I wonder WHY I want a new "figure". Is it just for the new UV (a practice I deplore) so that in case my fave character vendors use it I must have it to use their products? But then, the VAST majority of my fave character vendors use the G3F base UV and I can probably count on one hand the amount of characters that use a specific UV. (I actually can't think of any to tell the truth)
And then I remember Olympia 7. Was so NOT interested in her, but for some reason, I bought the bundle - one of those rare times I actually had some spare cash, it was my birthday and I just figured "stuff it, I like most of the outfits and hair in the bundle, it worked out cheaper to get the bundle than JUST the items I want, so I'll get it" (and I think I had some discount on it for buying something earlier). Lo and behold, I fell utterly in love with Olympia 7 on my first render. Eva 7 had been my fave up until then - Olympia 7 is now my all time fave character of the G3F line. So I wonder if hte same thing will happen with Gia? I wasn't a fan of Gia 6 at all - but will I fall in total love with Gia 7?
Interesting. Does the same to me. $9.78 on page - becomes $13.78 in the cart. Refreshing doesn't change it. I'm a PC member too, if that makes a difference, so I don't understand why the price is changing from store page to checkout page.
But then, this is actually normal for a DAZ sale, I guess. :sigh:
And now the Geneva hair says $13.78 on the product page.
Ok, SOME Of the DAZ Originals in the Gia release have shot back up to 30% off only. SOME are still at the 51% correct discount. So...yeah. I suspect we have to sit and wait for a while for the Glitch to disappear. As always.
No purchase from me with yo yo prices
Ah. Just saw the new PC items hit the store - that's possibly the reason for the yo yo prices. Cos that happens all the time - store updated, prices go whacko.
Wow DAZ.
So the first and most obvious thing is that Gia's promo renders are the worst. They're actually some of the worst promo renders I've seen in the DAZ shop period. I've noticed this with some of the gen7 base characters' promos and the HD packages too, but here it's really, really bad. I'm not sure how anyone greenlit this. It's embarassing in several ways. First, the terrible lighting makes the character look bad. Second it makes the environment look bad. And third it makes Iray look like a bad rendering solution when it really isn't. Aren't you trying to sell us that Iray makes for great renders?
So please, DAZ either teach your promo artists how to light scenes in Iray or get new promo artists with experience with Iray. You're not helping your case. Just look at how great your gen6 promo renders looked, some really fine work in 3Delight. Just do the same thing in Iray.
OK, then Gia. I really loved Gia 6 so I was ready to love Gia 7. Can't tell what she lookes like, though, cause the promo renders are too bad. Body seems about right, maybe a bit more slender than her predecessor? Which seems weird since there is already 2 athletic but more slender than Gia 6 characters for gen7, but nevermind. Face looks a lot like Victoria 7 in the promos but then again, she's wearing 5 layers of carnival makeup in overlit renders, so what do I know. Still, I really wished DAZ would try to give their gen7 characters more unique faces. They did with Bethany and everyone loves her. Hey, people love coke, but I don't think the Coca Cola Company is going to replace Fanta and Sprite with more Coke. The renders in this thread so far look promising, though, thank god.
The Pro Bundle looks like DAZ Pro Bundles look. The clothing seems uninspiring and is exclusively done by people whose stores I generally avoid for reasons explained in various other threads. In most cases there's some sort of saving grace, here I can't see it. Characters look meh, but I never like Pro Bundle characters so the problem might just be me. Anyway, it's not more and not less of what I expected. Hair, as usual, is saved by AprilYSH with another awesome contribution to the world of 3D Hair. She has more to save in this case, though, that's all I'm gonna say on hair in this Pro Bundle.
So overall I'm reasonably underwhelmed. May get the Pro Bundle still, because despite everything, I actually do trust DAZ products, especially their original characters. However, and this is where you get out your notepad, DAZ, your marketing should make me want to buy something more not less. It is becoming more and more a hurdle, something one has to work around to buy or even want to buy something.
First step is to get your web team to not mess up every single sale. The second is to teach your promo artist(s?) how to render in Iray. I hear there's tutorials. Third, and this may be very much up for debate, of course, please try to switch up the artists for you Pro Bundles more. Except AprilYSH, keep her around forever.
This looks like a character I think I'm going to like. No one's mentioned Briley, but I really like her. All the characters look really good. I think I like most of the bundle. And unlike others, I'm always ok if there are more high heels. That there are none is a negative in my book.
+1
Is a mod needed to report the incorrect discount prices on some of the DAZ originals for the Gia 7 release? Do they get results quicker than if one of us sends a support ticket?
It's been reported
Thanks Mike :)
I always picture the mods as having access to a special red phone that connects directly to the Powers That Be.....
It may be just a modding site, but the user experience is far better. That was my point. The content of the site itself is irrelevant. Nexus may not be an estore, but it IS an online art community, and it is powered entirely by its community. I didn't say user pics had to be in the same line. They would be in their own seperate section, but still accessible from the store page. As I said, mods can throw out images if they want and curate the content. Why wouldn't you want to see that pic jade c made on the store page? I sure would, because that pic makes me more interested in buying than the official ones. There could be a rating system, so higher rated renders would be at the top of the user upload section. Again, the user uploads are a separate and optional thing. Nobody is forcing you to look at them. Plus there are times when a store page doesn't even show pics of all its items, or maybe a few more camera angles would be nice. To add to that, how many different posters have all said that j cade's pic is better than what Daz used? I feel like that alone is enough of a reason to allow for user uploads. Another reason: users could upload new images for old content based on newer versions of Daz and lighting. This can breath new life into old products, which I'm sure would make those venders quite happy.
The idea of requiring at least one or two "out of the box" renders at default values is another thing I'd like to see. I was going to mention that, but forgot. lx reminded me. This is important because it helps us see just how much the lighting effected the picture. Some of these pics are dialed up to crazy levels, and frankly are not fair to buyers, especially if you don't know what settings and modifications they used in making them. Plus, it would help the newbies like me, who are still learning this lighting stuff. Or perhaps thosewho have video cards that don't handle some of these extra light settings too well, also like me. Until I upgrade, I'm kind of stuck there.
Ultimatey, it is all about the user and the community, and the usability of the store and its forums. New people can very easily get lost here, especially with the hidden forum search which desn't work well. What is up with that anyway? The storefront is the first thing people see, and while it is not ugly, it can be confusing and the lack of a connected forum to each store page is not good at all. When you have people who barely know Genesis 2 from 3, it can be daunting to say the least. I recently tried looking up some HDRI stuff, and it was a mess trying to find info on that when the terms "HDRI" and "environments" can pop up in so many places. Forum links to the store pages would have helped SO much. As some products age, any forum thread about them might get burried and forgotten.
The ponytail is awesome, thank you for making it. I've been on the lookout for a sleek, aerodynamic ponytail for months and this ones is perfect.
I like Gia 7 and will probably get the pro bundle by the weekend. I'd like to see how she looks in a cape. Or going hand-to-hand with Michael 7. I think he's gonna hurt all the way through his mesh to his bones, and his mesh will just be a straight line when she's done with him. He's gonna morph without any morphs. He'll probably lose his water AND his texture.
Okay, I'll stop now.
has anyone else bought Gia and/or other products released for her and have some renders to show?
A quickie. Doing more over on my art studio thread shortly and settings are in this post (as a good starting point for newbies with Iray, and again, I saw Jaki's post and did a fast one for you.) I will say this is with saturation knocked way down, using the default Iray lights, she is pretty ruddy. This is rendered in Iray. I'm going to use the same light setting (if at all possible) as I like to compare apples with apples on skin materials. (Unless they look horrific, but I still share what I discover.) Will do some of the other characters now over in my thread.
