Yup. Yet another set of promos where I want to tell the figure to go wash her face and then come back so I can see what she looks like.
i think the wall ranger outfit is starting to grow on me. I wasn't sure if I liked it at first, but the more i look at it, the more i like it. Between the combat boots and the modern sword/katana, it has good stuff. The pants also lol like they have a fastener, not just magic yoga pants/jeggings.
If i didn't have a real job, I'd post a lame quickie render.
So you're saying your output will be near zero in 3 to 4 months? Or at least your level of sleep will go to nil?
I would hope that there was a makeup free option, but what DAZ considers to be make-up free has been slowly turning into "not quite so much eyeshadow and mascara." And in the case of Gia, it's looking like the base texture is the one used in the promos for Jungle Goddess... where all the eyes seem to be oddly out of focus, but appear to have some kind of irridescent eyeshadow but no liner.
I am certain there is a no-make up option for Gia.
I only have Victoria 7 and her no-make up option doesn't have eyeshadow or eyeliner. Only the lips look like she is wearing some sort of colorless lip gloss (too glossy for "no make up", unless she just licked them).
Not even in my cart, but I agree, nice looking character, but none of the outfits really do anything for me and this is the type of genre I am into, bummer. Seems to be a lack of imagination lately in clothes design, or maybe I am just being too picky, LOL.
BTW Silver, congrats!!!
Congrats, and I'll likely buy your figure when released as a new baby pressie. :)
Haha I am probably gonna have to start picking and choosing the ones that really inspire me or buy a laptop and work from bed :D I am lucky to have so many vendor friends who have offered to help pick up some of my slack if I need help so am extremely grateful for that :D I also am lucky that my hubby is home with me usually helping me with work but he will get baby duty while I am working for the most part rofl, convenient for me i know ;) Thank you all for the congrats btw did not mean to de-rail the thread just wanted to let it be known if i dont have a character for a new figure its not for lack of wanting to work with them or anything like that :D
I swear people try to find offense online, but i meant none . Having kids myself, lack of sleep is one of those running jokes. I'm not Silver's boss, so why would i care if she takes time off? So I'm not the pro forma congrats type. I need a real job to pay for my hobby.
In any case, Gia 7 suits me more than Olympia 7, which is strangely opposite of Olympia 6 and Gia 6. I don't know if I like Gia more than Karen, but I think there's more room for them than Bethany/Olympia 7 in my workflow... but that's me and my admittedly off tastes. (Bethany is still the best figure in Genesis 3 IMO)
Did someone say makeupless render?
I must say as much as I loved the Olympia promos, I don't like Gia's. They look nice, but I don't know why they paled her up so much, she's in the Karen range, but a bit more olive (of course in my render I've stuck her in super warm lights, so I'm not one to talk)
Wow, what a beautiful render you have there!
Does the character more justice than her promos!
The reason why her skin appears to be pale in the promos is the lighting. This has a huge effect on the skin tone. If you have warm lights in the scene, the skin will appear darker.
She is really nice looking character indeed!
Update: I think Daz should pick several user made renders of their characters and display them on each character's site somewhere at the botom for better representation of the character : )
Ehhh... Not sure I'd agree with that. Some of the official females - and males - were relatively interchangeable.
Surely, that's a bundle issue? You can get the character without needing to get a bundle. :)
Personally, I almost never get bundles, unless there's something insanely vital (which is very rare).
Yeah the promos have super strong lighting, which doesnt look bad, it just can overpowers the textures a bit
I also realized my render was using non default skin settings, here's a quickie the default skin settings, Olympia and Gia have much nicer default settings now that stuff is being optimized for 4.9
I liked Gia 6, but for me 7 is very 'meh'. Not as distinctive as 6 was, more closely resembling V7/O7 than G6 resembled her 'sisters'. What you'd call pretty (with the compulsory overly pouty lips) rather than striking, which is what 6 was, and there are umpteen other pretty characters, and not enough striking ones. Variety, where for art thou?
And the bundles aren't persuasive. In particular, Ireland hair looks very poor in the promo.
And what, pray, is a 'wall ranger'? One who ranges over walls?
That render looks even better Cade!
I don't know why they make their "No-makeup" lips always so glossy though. Nobody's lips are that glossy : D
But yeah, she looks really nice.
Love the square shape of her jaw.
One minor thing that kind of limits her to darker hair colors are her black eyebrows. I suppose there is no light option as it is not mentioned on her page?
I suspect it's living in Utah - no one dare set foot outside the door without some kind of protection or their lips will turn to dust.
Congrats on the baby, Silver. I have a ton of your characters, but I always like when you come out with something new.
Lower beneath the ear I also see some distortion (hair looks jagged), looks like one of the common autofit distortions. Half of the times I use G2 or G3 hairs I have to parent and adjust them manually instead of using autofit, to avoid these distortions.
Thanks! She looks much better than I'd hoped based on the promos... no offense meant to the DAZ artists, but I really can't figure out what they were thinking by not including a makeup free render for a character that's being intentionally sold as a swordfighter/jungle girl type.
DAZ had been hitting the nail on the head about the past few pro bundles. Gia is more super like than the previous female figure release so I would use her as a heroine. The clothing ranges from historical, sexy and every day so that's a plus. The two hairstyles are good and the pose packs are both very nice. I hope we get a male next.
Daz really needs to add a section to each store page for user made uploads, as well as a link to that item's forum thread. This would be a tremedous help for everyone, and most importantly, it would help the venders, too. Not everyone uses the same settings, or even the same version of Daz. Each image could have a caption, so the uploader could give a bit of info if they wish.
Sure, it might be another thing for moderators to watch out for, but I believe the benefits far exceed any downsides. Plus having a forum thread linked to the store page would help a lot, too. Especially for older items where the thread might be hard to locate. It would also help prevent a lot of duplicate threads asking the same questions over and over, because the poster couldn't find the related forum topic.
This stuff is all possible. Take a look at the Nexus Mods site and see just how they have everything connected to a single page where the mod is uploaded. They have the content maker pictures, user uploaded pictures, and a full forum section for every single mod on the site, including FAQ and trouble shooting threads. And this is for content that is free! It should be rather embarrassing for a modding community to have a better storefront than Daz has.
I disagree. Nexus is a modding site for video games and not an estore connected to an online company and art community. Personally I wouldn't want user made addons hosted/linked to along side commercial addons, best to keep them seperate IMO.
I hope there are some more armor and outfits coming out for GIA
Or they could you know actually do some promos in default lighting with each renderer with the default figure settings since the dramatic fancy ones they use to try and sell stuff isn't really relevant to any of their customers actually buying the stuff >.>
I like how the dramatic promos look but the downside is that they only offer one look at the figure which is very often not the best one.
So that's why I think they should handpick the best user renders and showcase them somewhere on the figure page to offer different looks under different lighting.
I get the point of having the main dramatic promos, but they shouldn't ALL be like that. The best user renders is no more neutral either - it just showcases a different sort of dramatic thing, still no controlled settings for us to judge off.
Many (sadly not all) clothing and environments enclude a texture free render to show exactly what is included. Why is it such a bad idea for characters to have one promo shot with the most default settings they can manage?
This is exactly the reason I came to this thread. We need a petition for a no make-up, no hair in face promo shot for all future base females.
Not really impressed with the character and what comes in the pro bundle. None of the clothing I find interesting at all. If they were to lower the intro price (with 30% discount for having bought the Egyptian bundle) to about $35, I'd grab it, but right now it's coming out at $45, so it's a no go for me. I only really want the Geneva Hair and the Early Morning workout poses, so those are in my cart right now.
Congrats Silver! Joyous news
Gahh... glad you guys are enjoying the sneak peak of future names but I'll have to email Daz to beg for them not to lock me out for the leak

Anyway (while I'm still here) I just wanted to add that Gia looks great in 3Delight, I'm happy with the mat they provide with her (used in some of Geneva hair popups.) And thanks JCade for sharing your usual brilliant renders here! :)
Forgot to add - thank you to those who are liking Geneva ponytail! I was dubious at first when Daz requested a ponytail as there are already a few great ponytails we use all the time but they were sure a high sleek ponytail would be a welcome addition, so thanks for mentioning it :)
Gotta admit, out of all the new releases for Gia, your ponytail was the one I zeroed in on. LOL. I really like it and suspect it'll be the only thing I buy. :)
