Where do you prefer to showcase your art? DAZ Galleries, DA, Fb...?

I'm sorry if this is an inappropriate question for DAZ3D forums (I heard one can't mention other stores, maybe it's not allowed to mention other showcase sites as well). What I've been wondering, after trying to get some feeling about how many people in the DAZ Gallery actually have a DeviantArt account, is where the 3D DAZ (or Poser) artists are "nesting" nowadays.
Personally I use DeviantArt and DAZ Galleries.
On one hand, DeviantArt has much better functionality than DAZ Galleries (examples: nested comments, notifications if your comment has been answered on, options to "watch" an artist, notifications for likes (faves), ability to see who actually liked your work, clickable usernames to go to their galleries).
On the other hand, being a very niche form of art, on DA, if you look for 3D you get overwhelmed by so called "bad Poser art" of fetish and porn renders, that have nothing to do with art in my opinion. I don't mean to insult Poser artists in any way, this is just how this type of discouraging artform is often called by non-3D artists. I bet there are a lot of DAZ renders among them. You know, those bad renders with bad lighting and no artistic effort whatsoever, with naked girls or some foot fetish. Any "real" good 3D art gets lost in the pile of bad ones. To find people on DA you need to join groups, look for friends of friends or go through useless piles of bad porn renders to find something actually worth viewing and commenting on. In DAZ Galleries the quality, in my opinion, is much better. You click on the front page and you see lots of good renders or at least works where people tried to achieve something artistic. Not just, you know, satisfy their fetish by using DAZ or Poser.
That's what made me wonder: where are all those great artists from the DAZ Galleries usually hosting their art? So: how many people have a DeviantArt account? Who is posting only in DAZ Galleries? Who has a different place, a personal site or a facebook page? If you're using multiple places, which one does agree best with your needs and gives you best exposure, functionality etc.?
Bonus: if you post your DeviantArt links, I promise to check it out.

I use DeviantArt because it allows full-size images rather than stuff limited in size, and easy enough to link elsewhere.
I don't really expect many people to go looking for my stuff, so hey. My link is in my sig
Daz Galleries allow large sizes as long as no more than the alloted kb size, and can easily be linked to Daz forum threads.
I dislike Deviant Art, as it is a huge mish mash of hard to get anywhere stuff for someone who doesn't use it regularly. Don't "do" Social Media in any form and the only other Gallery where I have posted my art is another well known 3D site with Galleries.
Although I admit DAZ Galleries have basic and simple functionality, so people have to do something real hard to get lost in it, it still would be nice to keep track of people in some implemented way (to watch/follow) instead of making bookmarks for artist's pages. I mean, it's hard to get constrictive criticism on your works if people who write them can't find your page back after making a comment, nor will be notified if you reply to them.
(Ok, there's the Likes-page, where all of your likes are saved. But then you may "like" a lot and comment on little.)
I'm not complaining, just saying "it would have been nice".
i like da.
stuff too risque for da, rotka is safer less fear of delete.
I personally love to make old school photo prints of the artwork and have them laminated on alu dibond.
That adds a big amount of extra value to the look and feel.
Small independent art galleries are the places where i love to show my artwork.
When it comes to online exhibitions i like the virtual world Second Life a lot since the artists and the visitors can meet and talk (chat) about the artwork life ...
... plus you can sell the framed artwork (no copy) and ppl use it for their virtual homes.
This limitations make the artwork stay unique and not inflationated at all.
Deviantart, that's where all my stuff is : )
Well I'm pretty new to Daz but I post my work in the galleries here, on DA and on my facebook fan page. On DA it is a good a idea to join the groups, its nice to not have to wade through a ton of crap. (I have no issues with nudity, just issues with porn being presented as art, which quite frankly, is rampant at DA). Facebook I post on my fan page because I have friends and family who want to see what I am doing who don't live nearby and its nice to have people comment on my stuff. I do get the occaisional comment here ( I have been making an effort to comment more on other people's work as well) and since I have been on DA for some time, there are some people who do actually like my stuff and favorite etc. But my artwork is done for me, as a hobby, and as a way to learn new things, improve my skills and get the images in my head out and into some type of form. As long as I am learning and improving and I get the occaisional, wow that's really cool, I am happy. And, I really really like the community aspect here, getting to know people who are doing the same kind of thing has been a lot of fun. And I feel like i might actually be making some tentative friends.
I use the gallery here and dA (as you know) to show my renders. No FB or other social media for me. To get some feedback the gallery here is not very suitable as it is hard to get votes for everything that is not Vicky in a bikini.
The possibility of commenting and nested comments, to follow up other artists I like very much at dA, as much as I'm fed up the the cathegory "artistic nude" which it is not. For projects and experiments I believe the art thread here is the most suitable as you can talk to people who know your problems and have experienced the same and sometimes even found solutions.
No FB or social media for me. Got to many virus alerts on deviantart.com. Some of their ads don't seem to be safe. My pics are suppose to stay where I upload them.
I'm like Ice Dragon Art (Sonja) in that I post mostly to the DAZ galleries then DA then Facebook.
Most of my good stuff and a couple of my not so good renders or WIPs get posted to my gallery pages here. I like seeing comments from others and have gotten good advice for improving some things that I may not be technically skilled at. I was amazed that one of my renders hit the leader board and let me tell you, I was flying high for days. I'm still amazed that it is even still up there and hasn't fallen off yet. You can't really get that kind of feeling on DA or even Facebook where my friends and family are likely to see my art. Some of the things I put up on my DA page, but I don't use it quite as much. I have joined a few groups over there that interest me and will, hopefully, improve my skillset. I use DA more for educational purposes, though, as there are a lot of good tutorials on how to do things in DS over there. I, also, like having a place to put the few nudes I do up there, not that I actually have nudes up there, yet, but it is nice to know I can when I do one. Finally, friends and family get a view of some of my artwork on my facebook page. They are very polite, but most aren't really that interested in my artwork so I don't put quite as many images up there. In fact, I haven't even been on my Facebook page this year, yet, so that tells you something about how often I even visit that page myself. I suppose I'll have go over there in the next few days and update with new artwork and put my leader board image up there for my family to see. Somehow, though, I doubt it will generate as much interest as most of my family don't get me or my artwork.
I like having my images here in the DAZ galleries where there are some people here who actually get what I'm trying to do and take the time to let me know when I have done something worthy of note. I, also, like being able to return the favor and letting someone know when I think they have done something that has improved their skills or even done something that I think is remarkable.
I like the Daz galleries because I feel like there's less pressure to be social there. I can only handle sporadic socializing. At some point I'll probably cave in and stick stuff on deviantart, but how un social network-y the daz galleries are.
I also have major problems commenting on other peoples stuff, I'm generally not one for just "OMG Fave!" I much prefer "I think this element works really well" and even "I think this bit works well, but this other thing looks a little off" (and I mean that both in terms of giving and receiving comments). On the other hand, I'm not really comfortable handing out unsolicited criticism however polite and constructive I try to be, as its not always socially acceptable.
I post them on DA also, like the format, easy to find and since most of my images have some form of nudity, it's not a problem like it is here.
I do not do facebook or other social media
I have posted some of my work, here, at the DAZ Galleries, but most of my work is on DA and it will be in the future. My art is glamour and nude of which is not allowed on DAZ galleries. I do not do porn renders and unfortunately alot of da has this. Da also has alot of real young people on it and so I do not socialize there ( I am a bit older). I would rather socialize on this forum in the form of helping others and getting help from others. I wish that there was a site with Galleries that have tasteful art without the porn. I would feel much better showing my art there. I hosted my own gallery site at one time, but I do so many renders that it is hard to keep up with upgating my site.
I no longer post to the DAZ galleries. On December 31st I removed all images from my gallery here. I put up one image, as a test, and it proved my theory; many of the viewers simply seek scantily clad people to view. While criticism is often hard to give, or receive, I would rather an evaluative or instructive comment than "cool". I don't post for "likes". Those images in the "Top Recent Images" have truly earned their position; but, they are, with a few exceptions portraiture, which isn't something I do. This is, in no way, a reflection on DAZ or it's admins. It speaks solely to the audience it serves, which is, apparently not an audience to whom I appeal. I have no interest in starting a "this is my art" thread. How many of us have done so to find their thread buried 7 pages back, behind all the complaints and queries?
I don't even visit DA unless a specific link to something of interest takes me there.
I do belong to a couple of closed groups on FB which, to a greater degree, serve the purpose I seek. I receive feedback, pointers, and genuine (?) input. Constructive input is still lacking, but, I imagine the same reticence applies everywhere. The closed groups allow me to avoid the same familial likes that I'd receive for any trash I posted. My Mum has all my art on her virtual refrigerator. Also, the social interaction is relevant to the image, rather than a completely separate community. A closer tie between gallery and forae would help, even if only one forum provided that tie. But, from a technical standpoint, I accept that the forum software, and the gallery software, don't/can't communicate.
So, I guess I've yet to find the optimum solution. But, for now, FB provides the better community for presenting images, which is exceptionally ironic, in that I avoided FB like the plague for nearly ten years. While many of those who sought me as a "friend" are vendors with a product to present, they are also artists who will comment as such, on my works.
When the galleries were first released, it would sit and spin and spin and was a waste of time to even enter them. And there were so many inappropriate renders that stayed up for awhile (simply because with the launch, it was overwhelming to keep up with moderating. Wasn't a fault at all of the moderators) so I gave up on it.
I thought the galleries are for finished work. IMO, it's called a gallery for a reason, aka art gallery. I would think WIPS don't go into those, unless you're talking changing something in a piece that's already done. (In other words, IMO it depends on what stage the WIP is in. Yours are probably done to the point that they don't look unfinished.) I know the Art Studio is for works in progress (and finished works, like if you want your own thread to put all your work in one spot and have a more conversational chit-chatty exchange, forum style.) Not trying to open a can of worms here, but I would think people don't go to galleries expecting to see pieces that aren't done.
Some beautiful work in the galleries, I surf in occasionally. Never visit DA unless it's a link to a tutorial. There's enough artwork on this site to keep me busy surfing, and I can't get through all the threads here as it is!
I agree completely, Novica. Yet so many submissions are dreadfully WIP, yet no request for assistance. I would understand if something was posted with the query: "I can't get this lit to my satisfaction, please help?"
Yes, let me clarify, when I say WIPs that I've posted to my gallery, they are mostly a done deal. There might be something that I think they are missing to take them to that extra level that I would classify as outstanding, though. Any WIPs I've posted to my gallery are something that I have tweaked as much as possible, but I know it could be better. I just don't know what that thing is yet. I'm still learning. I know when I learn or discover whatever it is that I can change to make an image better, I will go back and add that last final tweak that will hopefully make it better. It may not be this year or the next. It depends on how long it takes me to learn what I don't know yet.
Any WIP that hasn't reached that stage where I can say "I can be proud of this if it wasn't for that one thing I don't know how to do, yet" doesn't go in my galllery. There are threads all over where I can and have posted problem peices where I'm asking advice for a particular technique or how to do some particular effect. I should probably have given those finished pieces that I've added to my gallery, but I'm not completely happy with a different name. I just don't know what name to call them because in my mind they are still a WIP because I know I'll go back and change them at some point when I've learned what I didn't know when I originally made them.
I've even debated taking down my early galleries simply because although they were the best I could do at the time, they are pretty bad, but my galleries do show a progression of what I've learned which I hate to take down. My 2015 gallery is all of my best work for the past year. Not all of it was great, but it was my best work. There are one or two pieces I would call a WIP and most other would probably say they look done. I'm happy to say the year ended on a high note. I can only hope this year is even better.
Its funny but I would love constructive criticism (as long as its kind, and actually constructive) no matter where I post. I do understand the hesitation though as I feel the same way. I like here because I feel like I am starting to make some friends who understand what I am trying to accomplish and who I am comfortable commenting back and forth with. None of that on DA or Facebook (Honestly, while I do socialize a tiny bit on facebook, I mostly use it to sell my beads and keep up with my customers, although I do have lampworking buddies that are all over the world that I keep up with on Facebook) I appreciate the comments that my friends and family post on my fan page there but its obviously not constructive criticism and sometimes its difficult to tell if they really appreciate it or are just being well, friends and family lol. DA seems to be one of those places where in order to get your stuff seen you have to spend a fair amount of time networking (which is fair enough, I don't mind browsing and commenting I just don't have a lot of time to do it.) Here, its true, skimp wear seems to rule but i refuse to give up lol. But I'm new so I am sure that will wear off at some point.
My gallery links are in my sig line below. I like the galleries here now quite a bit, and usually post here first, unless the image is against the TOS. The first image I ever posted is in my Rendo gallery, I keep thinking I should get rid of my old images there, but they do help me to see that I have improved a bit. The gallery at RDNA gets the least amount of trafic. There is quite a bit of overlap between the images I have in the different galleries, but I find it interesting to see how an image that may be quite well recieved in one gallery (well recieved for me), won't get hardly any traffic.
I think I have one image at DA, it just feels a bit too "big" for me. I don't do FB.
I like deviantArt because it's very easy to reply directly to comments and interact with other artists. That's the one thing I do not like about the galleries here. I've received some very nice comments here, but I can only reply by commenting on my own image and hoping those who left a comment before view it again to see my reply. Deviantart also allows journals (mini-blogs, where I like to rant and give out tutorials and tips) and it's always been simple to find whatever kind of art you like.
I like Tumblr myself. Simple interface and you can upload PNGs.
Totally agree: deviantart allows to conviniently consistently interact with a group of people, allowing for an exchange of feedback, while DAZ Galleries are not very suitable for that. But then the DAZ community on the Forums is perfectly capable to give you the feedback you need, just not in the Galleries. Which is inconvinient. You kinda want to combine: bring all the nice people who are eager to get and give feedback together with some functional Galleries system that allows for this feedback and not just "likes" and "Wow, it's cool" comments noone ever replies to.
Couldn't tell, I'm using Ad-block for years. But then again, some people believe it's immoral against the site to use it, since it's an income for the site. So I won't argue.
Well, personally I prefer the constructive critisism to the "OMG Fave" attitude. I still fave/like stuff, because I know it will give the artwork more exposure, but when I comment I tend to make a comment that says something about the artwork, not repeats the act of "faving" it, by just saying "Cool" or "Wow". As to the point of reception of critisism, I usually do one test. If a person doesn't like it, I won't do it in the future. In general I try to watch people on DA (and communicate with) who like to give and get feedback, the more elaborate the better.
Well, I don't know what generation you actually are, but I wouldn't say DA is full of teenagers or only young people. I see a lot of older people on DA, who make amazing art and give wonderful comments. As long as you avoid the MLP and selfie-crowded front page of "Newest deviations", but stick to a certain circle of people, you barely notice the site is full of 13 year olds, who might be full of enthousiasm, but also usually lack the skill or education to understand your art or what you tried to express. I do second the last part though: it would be nice to filter out all the porn. Somehow there seems to be always too much of it, if it's allowed in any possible form.
I guess it's always firstly about the people you interact with, and then about the functionality of the place where you're interacting. As long as you've gathered a good group of people to interact with and have some basic functionality, it doesn't matter where you do it. Be it here, FB or DA.
In my experience if you find a handful of people who are willing of interact with you on DA, you can stop networking for some time. The life-cycle of an average active user can last up to a couple of years, then there are some dissapearance peaks. Sometimes people come back, sometimes they don't. But in the end, once you have some group to interact with, you only really "need" to add to them once or twice a year. Off course, the more, the merrier, hence this thread: I'm searching for more people to interact with who have an idea what DAZ is. But to comfortably have some feedback on your work and give so feedback back, all you need is a couple of watchers/friends who do the same thing (3D art) and to be a member of say two-three groups. I can say, it's not a lot of work.
Can't you upload PNGs everywhere? Or am I missing something? (Never tried, I usually use jpgs anyway)
I put png up at dA, here it is jpg, as the limitations of size can better be kept in jpg format, costing quality in return, that's why I use the png at dA
I personally like DA because they don't censor art. I put images here on DAZ when they are family friendly, but if something is a PG 13 or R, I just post them immediately on Deviant Art.

Deviant Art and Tumblr
I had an image removed from the gallery that showed the part of a man's unclothed hip, because of nudity. It didn't show his backside, front or pubis. Not that long ago, an image that's focus was a rear shot of woman's ample posterior wearing a thong was cycling through the main Daz page banners. So no thanks.
Yes, I actually have been witness to this too. If a nipple is not showing, but because you know that there is a nipple, there, then you cannot post the image because you just might see a nipple..because you know it is there.
It appears that if you are a well-known artist, here, at DAZ, you can get away with posting renders that, in my opinion, violate the TOS. But that is O.K...I am good with that..I just post to DA. It is a good thing Michaelangelo is still not alive or some of the other great artists and photographers because they would have not been able to post their FAMOUS works of art, here, at DAZ Galleries.
Art of Glamour and/or nudes can be very beautiful, as of yesteryear and even today, as long as there is NO porn shown or suggested. I think that this is where DAZ has the problem. I would bet that in the past some artists posted nudes with the intention of promoting porn and this is why they came up with the TOS they have today. So, anyhow, off to make more art.......
I used to keep a gallery on Facebook, but FB automatically converts/compresses a lot of images. Since at least half of my images are on the larger side and image fidelity is a concern, I moved to DA.
My aim is to become an erotic artist so always have had problems posting my images. After a lot of trials and errors I am very happy with DA and Tumblr. And I love Picasaweb storage from Google that allows you to keep your images private and post the links in other places.
I've learned the most from these forums, especially the old Carrara one and will always thank the effort to help many people display here.
Fighting with each TOS, thumbnails sizes, images weight or size and all those are a pain in the neck. I love making images but I hate losing time uploading them. I had a gallery here that disappeared when all the forums were reworked. Have not tried to redo it. Each post in Rosity is almost an hour task. Rotica was ok before the change but now is awful to upload. Social media as FB or SL is VERY time consuming and not my kettle of fish but I must say I had a big encouragement to improve my skills when I played in RLC for a couple of years back in 2006 .
I love what I do for the sake of doing it. Eduardo Chillida saying is my motto: I measure myself every day not to know how much I measure but to see if I've grown.
And of course as every wannabe artist I would love my art to be liked, appreciated, criticized or commented but I can live without it
My "artwork" is made with Bryce. The Daz galleries before we got this one was peer reviewed and it took me two years to get my first render accepted. There were separate galleries for Bryce, Carrara and Studio. What was shown in any of the galleries was an accomplishment, not just a 5 minutes test render.
Commenting is difficult. I wouldn't comment on any none-Bryce artwork just because I don't know what effort went into it. This is a bit silly, admittedly, because it doesn't matter how a successful piece of art was accomplished. However, it is not only vanity that makes me upload a render, it is constructive criticism though the comments on the Daz galleries - if I get any - are good for my ego but not for improving.
The forums here, Bryce Discussion - Show Us Your Bryce Renders! is a nice thread to present the renders and get some fedback but it is - on the whole - very nice and friendly and seldome really constructive.
So, yes, I use this Daz gallery to show my attempts, I also show some on Renderosity, which has many sections, Daz Studio as well as Poser, Carrara, Bryce, Maya, etc. However, the feedback is not very helpful. The best gallery for brycers was Bryce5 dot com where I learned very much. Honest and constructive critique by many artists. Unfortunately, there are not many users left (which is already an exaggeration). I maintain my own website with a gallery but without any means to comment. No dA, no FB.
I stay far away from Tumblr now due to it's nefarious reputation with porn traffic and copyright infringement (personal experience also). I do like the interface though.
