While we are waiting to see if Daz can do this, how long does the sale price for the upgrade last on your site?
I bought Faceshop 8 from Daz and I'd like to get the upgrade there as well (it's easier to keep track of where to re-download stuff from if all the upgrades come from the same place) but if there is still no sign of it at Daz when your sale is about to run out I'll buy it there.
I’ve upgraded to Headshop and read the manual but it doesn’t say whether I should uninstall Faceshop 8 before installing Headshop. Can I install Headshop without removing the previous version of Faceshop? If I have to remove Faceshop 8 how do I do this and which files do I need to remove? Thanks for your help!
The only file that needs to be removed (or renamed) is Faceshop.exe in the DAZ 3D/DAZStudio4/bin folder.

Laslo

Laslo,
I don't have a "bounding box and red dots in my version of Head-shop.
I click autodots, and it brings up green and blue dots, you can move these individually, but there is no way to adjust size of photo like you do in the video.
Can you please advise how to achieve this?
Cheers, Glenn
Edit:
I finally got it it up. This is really an issue, I could not bring up "bounding box" by clicking on the forehead blue dot over and over....
I had to break out the intous med pro and on after fricking with the dot for over 5 mins did I get the box up. If I am going to pay AUD96 for this program, I would expect it to run a little smoother. .
Edit II:
Once I get used to this thing, there will be no stopping me :)
Higgo,
It seems that you have figured things out - good for you!
As for learning curve: admit that there are few apps with such extensive support built in.
There are the "Teach panels" for each step. Each links to extensive video demos. And there is the manual with QuickStart guide.
We are rather proud to have this much support placed right at your fingertip, wouldn't you say!
Cheers and I like your spirit with the "no stopping you" part:-)
Laslo
So Laslo, you have seduced us into buying the product for the latest figure, now Genesis 3 is released!!!
Can you please advise if you will be doing an update to headshop to include Genesis 3 as the bas .obj???
I paid $95.97 AUD for this plugin from Daz... I want to know I am gonna get my moneys worth!
Yes, I admit it was all a fiendish plot. Btw. I suspect that gen 3 will work with gen 2 settings (man, woman, child). We will check ASAP.
I have the same problem that Higgo posted pictures of, however I have not figured out how to fix it. The features of the picture show up too low on the actual genesis head. If you could tell me how to fix this, I would greatly appreciate it!
Okay, I was needing something like this... so when I bought this I had really high hopes. But in trying to work it I'm getting extremely frustrated. I'm posting this here instead of sending an email to tech support because I thought others might be experiencing the same frustrations as I am. First of all let me say that I appreciate the tutorial videos, I'm not sure if anyone has told you yet but the endings of the first two have some feedback type noise in them, just an fyi.
One thing that I think would really, really help is to have a picture of where the dots should be. I know for the most part this should be self explanatory, but there are questions I have about the nose dots especially. The two lower outer dots on each side of the nose, just where should they go?
Also, on the video for the profile/line tutorial it makes mention of being able to import a profile picture to get the profile just right - but NO where can I find how to do that and the tutorial doesn't say, so how does one do that?
Additionally, when you are creating the profile and making the green dots along how do make it so that you can go back and adjust the placement of the green dots? I had been able to do it one time but I haven't been able to duplicate it and when I go back again it just keeps extending the green dot/line.
Thanks,
Winthrod
Winthrod,
Thanks for the note. I have not seen much user problem so far with the positioning of green dots. Let me remind you that this is not exact science but an artistic process, where trial and error are part of the learning curve.
With that said, we will continue to make improvements of the tutorial every time a user note such as this comes in. As such, you will see your issues addressed in the pdf tutorial later today. These changes will include clarification on the profile question; presently there is no provision of importing profile picture, but this will be addressed in the next update.
In regard to tech support; I do encourage you to send specific questions and screenshots to info(at)abalonellc.com. Skype also works, as it allows us to exchange screens.
Best,
Laslo
(Picture below shows best position for nose dots. Still, I prefer to do tech support offline)
HeadShop 9 and Genesis 3.
We tested HeadShop with Genesis 3 Base Female. It needs to be treated as an "Import OBJ" object.
Steps:
1. Select "Import OBJ" from options
2. Adjust "green head" for shape
3. Proceed as with other characters
Well now you've seen another user having the same problem. Me. So that's two.
I was very reluctant to buy HeadShop 9 having seen little or no real movement in the last few versions of this product, but I eventually gave in because I had a specific project that I wanted to use it on. That project has now been completed, but not by using HeadShop!
I'm going to repeat what I said in another thread, and note that this is not a support request - it's feedback. Maybe others have had different experiences. If so, I urge them to post here.
1) The Profile Tab is absolutely useless. There is NO point in having the ability to trace around the profile of the head object that you've already imported - you need to trace around the profile picture of the character that you're trying to create - so that you can transfer that profile to your character. What I thought was the raison d'etre of the whole product! Even then, the placement of the dots is agonising, as has been mentioned by the previous poster. You cannot correct without doubling back!
2) The created head texture is 1024x1024. If I start with an 8192x8192 portrait, I don't expect to find it shrunk to a postage stamp texture that's only any good for Half Life or whatever. This is a shame because the actual texture mapping algorithm seems to work quite well.
3) WHY is there a Load Project button visible on the first screen when the plugin is invoked when that button is never enabled? Why? Why? Why? Maybe I want to suspend and then continue a project that I already started.
But my biggest reason for giving such negative feedback is that this is now NINE VERSIONS - and still the basics are not right!
I regret to say that it's the last version that I will buy and I rate this product 4/10. It could be great ... but it isn't.
I was thinking about buying it, but the reportedly very low res (1024x1024) textures and lack of ability to blend the mapped head into a body texture are both deal breakers. I'm not sure what you could do with importing a low res texture to only the face of a model. It's certainly very impressive, but I really don't see any use for this platform without those two things. Maybe long distance shots of them wearing burqas?
I made a post about the blending, but looking at some of the examples it seems like it does match up well. Is this postwork? because the tutorial videos show the face being extremely obvious as not belonging.
Headshop?
I bought this 'product' a few months back, I've tried and tried and tried to get it to add 'look-a-like' faces for weeks, I've read the instructions until I'm sick of reading, I've watched the tutorials until my eye were almost bleeding.... it's rubbish!
It will not give you anywhere near 'look-a-like' faces, at best and if you don't let it load up headshop textures, it will give you some new faces to play with. They will still need to be altered once in DAZ but I have at least been able to make some pretty pleasing ones.
Can I make a figure that looks like 'XY or Z' ?.... No you can't.
Is it easy to use? ... No, the UI is awful.
Is it worth buying?..... No chance!
I AGREE Bugs still not fixed
I bought Headshop 9 in the full throttle sale, only now realising the output textures are such low resolution :( it's not mentioned anywhere in the documentation. I assumed they'd be the size of the base texture.
Is there any way to increase the output resolution?
I agree. At $36 with my 64% Rev-Up discount it is very tempting to buy it; but I am going to pass because I might not be be able to match the head to the rest of the body. And with the RevUp discount I couldn't return it.
I emailed support and they said they are planning a free upgrade to 9.5 in the next few months and will look at making the texture resolution better.
In reading this thread, it is dissapointing as I have wanted a product that does what this one claims for some time. One thing I feel should be implemented in the creation of normal maps based on the details in the photos. With game models, much of the detail is created thru the use of normal maps and these are used more with GF3 now. In cases with images of older persons or those with more character in their face, the normal maps would help is making the likeness more absolute instead of just having the details on the map with no mesh indentations.
The product and concept seems to have promise, we'll see how it progresses.
Maybe it installed wrong, or I have outdated directions, but I can't see where to start HS9 under file in DS4.7.
I must be doing something wrong, but for the life of me, I can't figure out what or where I am doing it. I've tried following the videos and the pdf but for some reason, my face texture carries over to the back of the head also, making the profile look really bad. It's not like that in the tutorials. anly the face area is textured ... the model remains bald. What am I doing wrong?
Still having the same problem. And since I really can't explain what result I'm getting, I'm attaching screen shots.
shot 1 shows the tutorial hints, where it shows the 'face' has been added, but the head is bald.
shot 2 shows what I'm getting.
shot three shows the exported result.
What am I doing wrong?
I need higher resolution maps, G3 support and the ability to have it read DAZ NOT on a C: drive install. Hopefully I can grab it for March Madness as 9.5 version.
Well, I am one of many who cannot get this software working. I have tried to get support, b ut have yet to get any. I have a job depending upon this software working and this is holding me up. I will give it 24 more hours to get support and then I will be get started to get a refund from DAZ. Does anyone know of any other software that WORKS and will do similar?
I couldn't find anything like it in time for my job, either. I ended up having to ask the client for head shots from various angles and copy pasting his head to my figure in Photoshop. Total wast of my time and money.
There is FaceGen that does similar
I haven't used this for a long time & only have the old version that uses Genesis 1 mesh but I seem to remember that deformed eyes could be a problem & that the textures need a lot of work if you intend to use those
I tried to work with support this morning and there seems to be no reason why it shouldn't work, but he cannot figure out why. I decided and have put in a ticket for a refund. I am going to be purchasing face gen I believe, after I try out the trial. I will be going with modeler. It offers so much more and includes the head as well. It is a little pricey, but if it works, it will be worth it. I m not happy at all, the way support has to be done with head shop. I also feel that it is quite buggy in that Internet searches relay the same issues I am having, without a fix in sight. It was even suggested by support that I get a refund. It is probably not a good idea for anyone to purchase at this time...I even have issues that it will not work with the latest daz revision of 9. Something.
