G3 Male icon loads G2 figure...
in The Commons
I have a G3M icon in my smart content. When I double click to add him to my scene, the figure that loads is Genesis 2 Male according to the listing in that directory window up in the left of the screen.. Is the model mislabelled? Or is the icon loading the wrong figure?
All my content from DAZ has been installed via the DIM and I have not tried to organize it. (When I can't locate an item, I go to the DIM to see where it was installed. Thanks Havoc! for that tip.)

Its Havos actually, if you are refering to me (although I may cause Havoc). Anyway, under which smart tab are you seeing this strange icon? I assume you are refering to the icons added by Genesis 3 Male Starter Essentials?
Yes, I was referring to you Havos. Sorry I got your name wrong.
This is the icon that I click on
You can see here that it says it has loaded the Genesis 2 male.
Well, I had pictures. But I guess I'm not doing it right. All the options seemed to want me to provide a url, but the pictures were on my computer and not on a website. So I used the copy and paste and the preview looked good. So how do you guys/gals post pictures?
Think I figured it out.
Look under the Leave a Comment box...there is a line "Attach a file". Click that link and it will bring up a box to allow you to load an image from your computer.
Then you can, after it uploads edit your post to make it an inline image, too.
and here's what loaded
Oh, boy! I was worried for a minute. When I backed out of this post, I saw some posts that looked like they had been corrupted. I figured I had done something really wrong, and then I realized that they were in Chinese perhaps.
Interestingly the icon I get for G3M on smart content is completely different, it is not a human colorful render like yours, but a simple silhouette with a 3 and the word Genesis at the bottom. I installed mine using DIM, same as you. The icon you have looks like Eddie, which is the character that comes with base G3M. Very odd I am seeing a different icon, and also that yours is loading G2M.
Are you using 4.9? I am still on 4.8
I just noticed that Genesis 3 Essentials has just been updated recently, so you may have found a bug, and it would be worth you reporting it. I have not updated yet, and given the bug you are seeing, I may hold off for a while.
The icon you shared is for the "Genesis 3 Male for Genesis 2 Male(s)" product. The icon for the Genesis 3 Male is this one:
Thanks, Havos. I'm using 4.8.
L'Adair....what does the Genesis 3 Male for Genesis 2 Male do? Does it let you use G2 male stuff on G3 male. I must have bought it. I tried to look up a product with that name, but I couldn't find one.
Another thing I find odd is that when I click on the icon I uploaded, it just loads a G2 figure without any texturing. Since the icon is of a human figure, I would expect it to load that figure. He looks kind of nice. I would like to use him, if he exists.
But for my current project, I should have used the icon you show. I found a product for G3M that I thought was really cool and I wanted to try it out. That's why I was scratching my head every time I loaded the figure with "my" icon and I kept getting G2M.
This is the product L'Adair is refering to
http://www.daz3d.com/genesis-3-male-for-genesis-2-male-s
It allows G2M to wear clothing for G3M. I imagine when you click on it then a G2M figure loads (without texture it seems) with the G3M shape dialled in. I can not check as I do not have the item (although it is wishlisted for when it does go on sale at some point)
It's true. Support showed me how you can right click on the icon and find what product this item belongs to.
I also discovered that if G2 already has a texture and you click on this icon that the texture you were using will stay. Didn't find the actual morph in this list yet. My gosh! there are soo many.
I'm glad you got that sorted, Kevin. Good thing you shared the thumbnail! I do think it would help if the text for the G3M icon text stated Genesis 3 Base Male, like the text for the G2M icon does. But the purple is distinctive, once you know what you're looking for.
The morph dial for the Genesis 3 body shape is in the Shaping tab: Actor>People>Real World.
Welcome to the crazy world of DAZ. And have fun!
I don't find Smart Content too crazy, but finding older items in the Content Library tab is usually an exercise in futility. It seems that when I do find what I'm looking for, it's usually in the pose folder, despite not being a pose. I dunno, maybe this is how things are organized in Poser, and older content was set up this way for compatability.
That is precisely why you find things like materials/texture presets in the pose folder.
Maybe I'm lucky I didn't buy Poser like I wanted to when it first came out; that would have driven me crazy enough that I probably would have given up on the whole thing.
I had to force myself to not use Smart Content. At least with 4.7 and 4.8, I don't know about 4.9. The thing is, there is a lot of content that just doesn't have the meta tags to show up in Smart Content. When I first started working with the Content Library, I stuck with just looking under Products. If I couldn't find it by knowing the name of the product, I'd do a search. When I found what I was looking for, I'd right-click on the icon and select Show in>Products. I still go to Products if I can't find something I'm looking for, but I've gotten fairly good at finding things in the other libraries. Now I use Smart Content and Content Library about half and half.
