OT: If you have a problem, and it gets solved, PLEASE don't delete the thread/post?

As the title says, if you have a problem, and it gets solved, PLEASE don't delete the thread/post.

Why?

Because someone ELSE might end up with the exact same problem you had, and your thread would let THEM know how to solve it. Simply deleting the post or thread out of embarassment or out of the idea that there's "no need" robs that future individual of how to solve the problem they are having.

Thank you.

I agree totally even threads that aren't solved as well.. its like a helicopters I have had a ticket in for a support fix. I put the ticket in 6 months ago and have not heard a word from Daz about it. and no one seems to know how to fix the bug that is in the model. .. rather disappointing because the intended use I had for this model in an animation I had to abandon because i could not get the dang work right.

    .

  • Well, it's been my experience that when one pulls on a dangling thread, things come unravelled! surprisedevil

  • I thought only administrators could delete threads.  Or are you refering to the practice of changing the thread title to "Cats do the funniest things..."?

Delete in the sense that they make an edit and remove the text in question from the original post.

  • I have to admit that I have found quite a few answers in old threads and, in some instances, would probably still be searching for answers if those old threads and been renamed or deleted.  Putting solved in the thread heading helps so much and Google still seems to be able to find some of the old threads even when the forums search (when it was working) couldn't find anything.  So, YES, please don't delete those solved threads.  They are extremely useful to others.

  • you need to find them though

while seach store is the only option noobs see that is not happening

    http://www.daz3d.com/forums/search

    needs to be stickied

  • Also, please don't put salient info in the thread title without repeating it in the body of the post.

there are many posts where someone will state they have an issue then post they fixed it but not explanation of how.

Can you delete a post you created if anyone responded to it?  If not then if the OP removed his own answer we cant be sure they actually posted a remedy or if the stumbled on one and cant elaborate on it.

I totally agree with Valandar. Try to keep in mind that many folks Google a problem first and that will possibly lead them to the question you have asked... I'd take Valandar's request a step further and ask that if your problem is solved by one of several different answers, please try and make a follow up response so the next guy who looks that up doesn't have to try all six variations to find a solution... I can't tell you how many times I've Googled a problem and found what seemed to be exactly the thread I needed, only to see something like "Thanks, it really wasn't either answer, but I figured it out now, it was really simple... Thanks for all the help!" ... That leaves the other guy going "What!? What was the answer!??"

The worst offenders are shader questions... people give suggestions here and there, the end result is often compilation of the suggestions but so many times the last post is "Yay I got it, it was a little of each but here is my awesome render!"... Yay, how about sharing what you did to make that shader you picked other people's brains for?

But, regardless of that, DAZ's forums are actually one of the most useful in the CGI realm, it seems more like people ask and answer than talk at each other... And nobody ever talks down to anyone.

  • McGyver, I'm in complete agreement. How hard it is to say, "I just needed to tick the green box at the left," and then we will all know forever how to fix the problem. I also agree that these forums are very useful. You can typically find someone who knows the answer to pretty much anything, and if not, Haseltine will come in and make something up that sounds so plausible everyone believes him anyway. laugh

LOL, I kept ALL "duhs" in my Art Studio thread. Wouldn't dream of erasing them because with the abundance of things we can do with the studio, if you don't use that option for awhile, you might repeat the same mistake / have the same question. That's another reason it's good to keep the question/answers, because it's not that you need to figure it out once, you might need a refresher course as time passes.

Has this ever happened to anyone else or is it just me? I loaded blah by blah and tried to blah it and Studio went boom.

Never mind, I figured out the problem.

    I hate that.

Oh, very much so!  So much so, I was going to upload an image to show just how much it annoys me but I loaded something in DS and it went boom .. oh, all fixed now though ;)

  • Sorry to go a bit OT, but is anyone else having problems creating new threads?  I keep getting a VlidateRequired error.

try logging into the store then redirect your browser to the forums, that's my fix for the logging out issue that has not been addressed since they changed the forums but it works for me on multiple browsers.

  • I'm logged in and signed in to the forums, and I've tried logging out and back in.

do you have or did you have a separate password for the forum and the store?

Normally you should login on the front page or the store page and then click the link to the forums on the top bar, rather than logging in on the forum.

I agree that it would be so nice if people would not delete a topic or post when they get an issue resolved.

I don't know how many hours I have spent searching the forums, even with the help of "search" or google, trying to find an answer to a question that I know I had seen posted previously.  Sometimes I even find the thread, but then cannot find the post but do find "deleted" posts.  If an issue has been resolved - instead of deleting the post, a "SOLVED" can just be added at the top of the post, maybe even with a link to the post (or page) describing the solution.

  • I always log in through the store, chohole.  I've submitted a help ticket, hopefully it gets fixed.  Weird, though, I've never had problems before.
