Oh yeah, my bad - I've never tried actually manually editing/overwriting files before but no reason that shouldn't work. Sorry, I'm being dense.
Why not? Also, you're forgetting Callie, Cory, Ninive, Ysabeau, and Scott (and I guess Minotaur and Reptilian).
Do not look a gift horse in the mouth
speaking of which, horse 2 .......
... All the DAZ animals ..... Just joking IG
Thanks for all of your work that you put into these nice Christmas goodies. Personally, I'm sticking with Gen 2 figures so these will definitely be very useful to me. I hope you have a great Christmas. :)
Thank you for the freebies and for these fixes. They will be used a lot. One question though, can you instruct in what folder these fixes should be extracted to? I've never been able to understand Daz's folder structure. Thanks again and Happy Holidays.
On the twelfth day of Christmas dear IG gave to us, twelve Iray Essentials... Okay, I'm not going to even try to rewrite the lyrics for the whole song. But I did want to say what a delightful gift these twelve files make. Above and beyond generous. Thank you. Merry Christmas, and Happy New Year! (Or in other words, may 2016 be a profitable year for you!)
I'd like to thank you too - these were great! I have so much Genesis 2 content that I'll be using those characters a lot for he forseeable future, so it's great to have these settings.
Warmest Best Wishes for Christmas and the New Year, InaneGlory!
For me and my file structure, each character file can be found inside the following in your Daz directory:
...\My DAZ 3D Library\People\Genesis 2 Female\Characters\IG Iray Essentials
...\My DAZ 3D Library\People\Genesis 2 Male\Characters\IG Iray Essentials
You have to drill down a bit in your Zip files to get to the character directory (i.e. "Aiko 6"), but you should know the file structure anyway (even if it can be rather convoluted). It's a bit more reliable this way, I think.
Ahhh, thank you! That helped :)
Hello and "Arg", broken links

Noticed and reported. However it is still a Holiday long weekend, so not sure when it will get fixed.
Thank you!
FYI, I applied the Gianni settings to Minotaur via CTRL-click, and it looked good.
I would suspect that the Daz models are all built to spec, so applying IG's Iray settings as a shader via CTRL click should fill in the gaps for Teen Josie and others.
Thank you everyone. I've been waiting on all of the 12 sets to be release to tell everyone the story behind how these all came to be and why they became my Holiday gift to the community. I started these back in March/April when Iray was still in beta. Unfortunately, with Genesis 3 around the corner, Daz was less than interested in my idea for Iray materials for Genesis 2 characters. We fought about it for quite awhile with me insisting they had to take the whole series and them only wanting bit and pieces. Ultimately they took the V6/M6 package but by then I got stubborn, they got stubborn and the rest of the project got put in a holding pattern. I always meant to put these out somewhere else but all Summer and Fall I always seemed to have other projects that seemed more important that doing 12 sets of promos for a project that had been deemed of little commercial value. Plus there was always the issue of how to package them up. Individually, in pairs or groups or all in one. I could never decide just what was best. So I was thinking this project was never going to see the light of day when people started talking about the Holiday giveaway. So I thought why not? Daz thought them of little worth so why not. In the end I decided that they should all go out individually that way people could pick and choose only the characters they had instead of pushing them all on everyone. Did I realize I was excluding part of the community by giving away Iray exclusive presents? Yes, I didn't intend to exclude people but in the end it is what it is and this is what I had to give away.
As to why did I do this character and not this other one (or why did I skip your favorite character). Originally I had thought I would be doing more but when everything came crashing down I pretty much stopped all work on all of it. In fact I had even mentally mothballed it so much I forgot where I had put the final versions of everything and ended up grabbing the wrong stuff when it came time to package it all up. Eventually all of these character sets will be available on my deviant account with links to them here. I will try to talk to QA about updating the installers after the holidays but there is not guarantee that they will be interested in doing so. Trust me, they already have tons of other, more important stuff to do without having them waste time fixing my mistakes on items I choose to give away.
There have been lots of questions asked about using these settings on other characters. Generally speaking, using Ctrl-click and choosing to retain the original maps should work (as long as the character has the Uber Iray Shader applied 1st). Ultimately no general use set of skin shader settings is going to be perfect in all situations but I created these using a mix of real world data coupled with a few artistic touches to look as good as they can most of the time. In the end skin is skin. The biggest difference between the sets is the Translucency color and you may find that you can get drastically different results by just playing with this color. Really this one is ultimately a mater of personal choice. What works well in one render might not look so good in another if your lighting has drastically changed. In the end I hope that people will look at these materials as a starting point that they can refine as needed.
Oh yes and finally, I want to thank everyone for all the interest they have shown in these gifts. I've really been stunned by it all. I guess even I started to believe that there wasn't much demand for these.
All I can say, is that sometimes even smart business can be downright stupid when it comes to knowing what their customers want. I think there have been enough people on here wanting something like this that DAZ should have known better. However, I suppose it is possible that they didn't know when they started telling you it wasn't a viable product. I think these are great and I downloaded all of them and will definitely be using them and thanking you each time. I'll also be snickering at DAZ a little at their misguided thoughts when it comes to thinking they know their customers. I think the forums are a hotbed of how much DAZ manages to get wrong where it comes to knowing their customer base.
In the end, it got the customers some much needed and wanted Iray presets and all for free. While I wish they had given you the go ahead so that you could earn some money, I am super glad that I could get these. I'll also be buying the product you did manage to get DAZ to broker for the G3M Iray Essentials as soon as I can manage it during the next sale. Not Arabella, though, because I don't have her and don't intend to buy her.
So, thank you very much, InaneGlory, these are very much appreciated!!!
That was really interesting, thank you for the backstory.
Converting G2Fs to Iray is always super irritating because while I'm perfectly capable of doing it manually, I either have to remember each shader group per texture (since they aren't grouped nicely like they are in G3F) or make custom selection groups every time, then adjust the face/body/limbs so 3x for each thing. It's the thing that makes me least likely to bother using G2F for an Iray render (and I pretty much only do Iray renders.) Then again maybe we're only meant to want to use G3F now? Who knows, but thank you for these~
InaneGlory, many thanks for all of these. I have downloaded the lot. As for DAZ not seeing the value in them, I think they missed a trick (as usual). I would have happily paid for a set of iRay Shaders for the Genesis 2 figures.
Thank you so much for these :)
I believe you /nod
The thing about Translucency color being a key differentiator for different body shades... That's useful to know if i try to CTRL click for other models.
I'm thinking about using Minotaur a bunch, which I haven't really done previously. I think he looks good with Gianni's settings, but i may fiddle with translucency if I'm not liking the output.
Also,i figured out the issue i was having with Anatomical Elements. The Translucency map and the Top Coat map didn't align with IG's setup. Moving maps around cured it all.
Hey, who wants another holiday gift? Now that the holiday freebies are gone from the store, anyone who can give me, in order, the top 4 most downloaded of the 12 characters I gave away can choose one single free product from my catalog (no bundles). In case you forgot, I gave away: Aiko, Darius, Gia, Gianni, Girl, Giselle, Lee, Lilith, Mei Lin, Monique, Olympia and Stephanie. I'll take guesses till midnight (Daz time) Tuesday Jan 5th. One guess per person and no editing of entries allowed.
Aiko, Gianni, Lilith, Monique.
I'm using irrelevant logic, which is probably a stupid idea. Don't care about the prize - I'm just interested in the results.
Darius, Monique, Gianni, Aiko
Aiko, Lee, Stephanie, Mei Lin,
though I would have thought a lot of people would have donwloaded them all even if they didn't own them
Olympia, Stephanie Giselle, Aiko
Monique, Mei Lin, Darius, Lee - probably entirely wrong, but that would have been my order (if I hadn't just grabbed the lot!)
Thank you InaneGlory your Irays skins really help in my Managa art , you rock !
Top 4?
Olympia, Darius, Lilith, Giselle
Really happy that Monique was part of this, though.
My guess for the top 4:
Aiko, Gianni, Monique, Olympia
Big thanks for the gifts, IG!
Thank you for these sets
,
my best guess: Aiko, Monique, Mei Lin and Darius
