Deviant art scam?

I just uploaded an image at my Deviant art page and then got a note that a comment was made. I click on it and it's from the deviant art team stating there has been unusual activity from my account. It goes on to say that every 3 months they require verification of my account. If I pay a fee until I do my profile and posted artwork will be hidden from public. Scam yes? My retired detective gut says so.

I have seen that notice posted on other peoples artwork. I can still see their work and am often responding to a remark on mine so what gives?

There have been a lot of scams on deviantArt lately. Some of them ask that you contact someone on Discord, some send private messages apologizing for reporting you and you need to take action, etc. I have not heard of your particualar issue, but 99% chance it is indeed a scam. That definitely does not sound like something that dA staff would require.

I'm sure you don't need any proof that this is a phishing scam but here it is:

This Deviant Art one is fairly unsophisticated - you should see the attempts we get every day at my company attempting to gain access to the Google and IOS app store accounts. Most are a bit rubbish, like the DA one, but there are some which must have had hundreds of hours poured into them and are very professional. You're dealing with businesses and states, not some spotty child in a dark bedroom.

If you receive a scary email from within a website's (any website's) DM system. It is ALWAYS a scam. If the website needs to get in touch with you, as soon as you enter the site, it would redirect you to a special page to talk directly to you. No website will talk to you about something important using the DM system. Frankly, if a website thinks you might be in violation of its terms, they will ban you and have you prove them wrong. The entire hook here is groundless.

    Thanks for listening.
