Why would you think it's okay in concept to have to fix every single female you make based off the character?

Yes you can redo the proprotions individually to fix the height (scaling down a human isn't how being shorter works, btw.) You can reshape them into anything you want. But that's not what Daz products are specifically designed for.

I can fix a flat tire too, but I'd still rather buy one that wasn't punctured to begin with.

Interesting pint of view. I never thought of it as "fixing" the characters. I've always looked at it more like personalizing them tomy.

I kind of think more like FSMCDesigns, and seldom do I render any character untouched. I almost always add in at least a few dial spins to make the charater look like I want. Of course some things, like muscle definition, are more difficult to get rid of, but most things are very simple to change. I often use the height morph (not scale) to make the figures shorter, which seems to me like it adjusts the figures proportions correctly. When I buy a new character/figure it's usually because I like the base shape as a starting point, and I like the texture set. The texture set is usually the most important factor, but if a character has a shape/face that I really like as a starting point, and a great texture set, only then is it a "must buy"

With all this in mind, I'm still on the fence with Olympia 7. There are a lot of attributes I like, but the texture set doesn't seem to have the fine details I like. For the base figure alone, it's probaly not enough to push me over the edge, but I do really like Rahele (Nathalie is very good to). So, I just have to figure out if buying the Olympia base figure to be able to use Rahele (and possibly Nathalie) is worth the investment. Bot I am pretty sure I'll be getting Cailin for V7, because of the great texture set and the unique figure to build off of.

Even with the height slider maxed out, V7 is still 5'5 in her base pose. Of course I do adjust the characters too, I just wish they started out closer to average heights so that the height slider would actually make them taller or shorter in more realistically accessible ranges. That screenshot above of Eva towering over reasonably tall Olympia and Bethany looks pretty comical. It'd also be nice to have the Daz morphs let you adjust the thighs since not all females are built the way almost all of theirs seem to be.

(And now no one will point out that you can turn limits off to make them shorter because that's not really what I'd call a beginner user feature. Also she becomes ridiculously wide when you do that.)

Ehh... Yeah, I'm really not seeing anything all that unique. The only difference is that Olympia looks like the sister who eats less sodium and does spinning on the weekends. XD

  • I like Olympia 7. She reminds me of Lynda Carter.

GrOOVus, a quickie of the trend setter shirt for you, paired iwht the Sweet Home shorts/undies. 3delight quick basic render on Genesis 3 Female default.

For those who already have the trend setter outfit - is the shirt a stand alone figure? If so, would it work as a "normal" shirt/blouse you could use with other bottoms (slacks, jeans, skirts) or does it only really work with the pants in this particular outfit? I like the shirt, I've got no interest in the pants.

Remember that each punch after the first lowers the price of the pro back by 6.75, so if you have less punches than 5, it might be better getting something else and the pro pack (in separate purchases) for what would be a similar total price.

Very nice looking character. @Silver, your avatar photo is beautiful!

  • Who is Andie for Olympia 7 on the Olympia page? When I click on it, it gives a 404 error.

Just in case anyone wasn't aware, prices always list as free (and an undefined NaN error on their actual page) when they first load up, so don't read too much into that part. Interesting find though.

Also, isn't it kind of weird that both bundle characters are wearing hair and clothing that isn't actually in the bundle or at least listed in the description? They look stunning but if I was a brand new user looking at that bundle, I'd expect those clothes/hair to be in the bundle somewhere. Obviously that's often not the case, but these are the kind of things Daz could pay more attention to since they said they were so concerned about new users being confused.

Other than the hair under the winged helmet, I don't know which other is missing from the bundle?  If you meant the long banner, that is.

Hair 1 = ? (idk some long hair but not in a style of the Olympia hairs)
Outfit 1 = ? (looks like something OOT made though)
    Hair 2 = ? (looks really cool)
Outfit 2 = ? (also cool but not really my style)

I'm not trying to knock on the PAs or anything: I get why it might be impractical to have artists making the characters have the clothing and hair from the bundle on hand, but that's the sort of thing Daz should organise for them if they want everything to be newbie friendly. As a brand new user coming to the shop I'd be confused that those items weren't in the bundle (or that characters didn't come with hair, etc.) I wouldn't be thinking "how can I get this on my fancy new Connect system; I'd be thinking, "why is my new character bald and where are the hair and clothings in the promo pictures and why is there no information about them anywhere?"

Promo pictures almost always look great but very often they do not give customers the information we actually need (nor do the PA guidelines tell them to, only to look good.)

This thread was only just brought to my attention, my apologies for taking a while to respond to it.

The hair used on our girl is:

    The outfit is this:

    http://www.daz3d.com/drucilla-corset-for-genesis-3-female-s

I, like Silver, am also sorry about that, we also usually expect that our promos will be redone, or we try and get them done with the items in the Pro Bundle (we don't always have these items when we upload the characters for the bundles), we'll make sure in the future to have them more closely match the theme, if we can.

o.o all the famous and amazing people are appearing o.o I'm star-struck.

Thank you, but just to reiterate - I'm absolutely not blaming the PAs for this. What I'm saying is that Daz should either be redoing them or making sure the PAs working on the official bundles have the tools they need to create the appropriate renders. At the very least they could list them (since PAs have said that their listed items often get removed by QA) whether linked to or not to make things clear to new customers about what's included in a bundle.

so much fangirling for Silver and Sabby omgosh

    <3 <3 <3

  • Ha, well, being a fan of skimpy outfits & deals on other websites, I've got those other clothing sets (Fantasy Wraps!) to help cover all the "Anatomical elements" that I also sometimes render.

(I mean, who doesn't like a nice Anatomical Elements shot once in a while?)

  • lx_2807502lx_2807502 Posts: 2,996

Speaking of Anatomical Elements, I was testing out all the textures and it seems like Nathalie's Anatomical Element Iray texture is set incorrectly.

The translucency colour is set to RGB 167 134 134, but should be 186 171 169 which is what the rest of the skin is set to. The 3DL one is fine.

I should probably put in a ticket especially because I'd get to write Anatomical Elements a lot, but lazy~

  • I'm wondering if anyone has tried the Nathalie or FWSA Rahele skin and/or head and body morphs on G3F or one of the other models besides Olympia 7 to see what she looks like yet.  I would be very interested to see how she looks.  I love the skin textures on both of these models better than Olympia 7 as well.  Also, I notice that FWSA Rahele seems to be the only one who states 'anatomical elements' mats.  I can't believe that is what DAZ is now going with for a description of that part of the body.  geez

Pictures would be lovely for those who have these models.  I'm still on the fence about them.  I love these two characters, just don't know if I love them enough to buy the Olympia base.  If they work well without Olympia, then they will be a definite buy when I have the funds.

Random superquick render of Nathalie with zeroed Olympia settings. I don't have Rahele yet because I bought the base model >.>

Ignore the crappy clothing I just stuck something on there to show as much of the model as possible while still hiding those nasty evil Anatomical Elements.

I decided to buy Olympia ala carte this time. It was cheaper to get olympia, Odessa hair and Nathalie instead of the clothing, hair and other items I'm not going to use in the pro packet. Usually there is at least one outfit I like but although some are well done they are clearly mostly fantasy which I just don't render.

  • Thanks, lx.  That is kind of what I thought and expected.  She still looks beautiful and will be very useful even if I don't get Olympia.  I absolutely love her skin.  But, then, Silver and Sabby always do an amazing job with their characters.  I think I own more Sabby and Silver characters than from any other vendors, both from here and at the other site.  It is saying something that even when bald, the character is still lovely. laugh

Yeah, she looks great regardless. I probably would have skipped Olympia for just Nathalie and Rahele, but I like having original figures and the hint that the new male figure next week will be discounted if you own Olympia swayed me.

The vast majority of the characters I own are Sabby and Silver's too (okay and FW for fair credit.)
