what settings do I need to change so an object does not cast a shadow during a render

AFAIK you can't do that with Iray
Do a second render without the shadow casting item, then layer them in an iamge editor. You may be able to reduce the shadow with a large light source, but that wil obviously affect other aspects of the lighting too. Or adjust the lights so that the shadow is not visible.
The second render trick isn't always easy, especially if other objects in the scene reflect the item casting the shadow. But I've used that trick many times.
In any PBR renderer like IRAY, just think about it like having a real life scene. What would you do?
Place a light source directing on that shadow you want to make invisable. That's not perfect, but that's how it is done in the real world.
I suggest the double render, too.
Then put both images into GIMP (or PS) into the same image, but different layers, the one with shadow on top.
Then delete anything that is shadow, exposing the image done without below.
Instead, in GIMP, apply a layer mask. Paint the mask black where the shadow is, white otherwise. In GIMP 3.2, the layers can be link layers connected to wherever you store your renders. This way if you rerender, the GIMP file updates automatically.
thank you
In this case I would render the scene with the object hidden. Then I hide the scene and unhide the object, elevating the object from the floor plane, this results in no shadow or a shadow unattached to the object (which makes deletion easier). Then layer it in your chosen image software.
