FE Middle Parted Straight Hair won't simulate

More or less what it says; FeSoul's FE Middle Parted Straight Hair refuses to do dForce simulation. The log shows:

2026-10-18 14:09:48.295 [WARNING] :: \src\pluginsource\DzDynamics\dzdynamicsengine.cpp(429): Using device: NVIDIA RTX 5000 Ada Generation

This is running Studio 6.25.2026.14722, with Nvidia driver 32.0.15.7602 according to device manager. Other things simulate just fine, but this scene fails to simulate if I include the hair–and all that's in the scene is Genesis 8.1F and the hair.

I've given up on filing support tickets on Studio 6, because every time, support tells me they can't help me if I have any third party content installed. Not in the scene, installed. I have well over a thousand third-party items I've purchased, and hundreds of items I've made myself, all of which have worked in the past. I'm not going to reinstall Windows for this.

Any ideas, or do I need to return the product?

Moved to Technical help as it is a product rather than a Daz Studio application question.

"dForce hair" doewsn't necessarily mean anything more than made with strand-based hair and set up using the tools available to PAs (which can handle imported strands as well as those generated in DS). It isn't a claim that it will simulate. I assume you mean https://www.daz3d.com/dforce-fe-middle-parted-straight-strand-based-hair-for-genesis-9-8-and-81 which doesn't have any of the obvious reasons not to be made simulatable (e.g. shaping elements that would require mousse or laquer to stay in place in the physical world). You may be able to enable simulation by adjusting surface (e..g. dynamic strength) and object (Visible in Simulation) settings, though the results may or may not be useful.

    I don't have it.

Only the last line in your log is related to simulation. Not sure why it is a warning. What comes after that?

  • Richard, you are correct about which product I'm talking about. The product as shipped has simulation installed and set to dyanamic surface, and the surfaces have dynamic parameters set. Does this not indicate that it will simulate? There are dForce simulation presets installed alongside the wearable. Those things strongly suggest to me that the PA intended it to be used with dForce simulation.

Is there a way to determine what products are actually able to be simulated without modification before purchasing them? If labeling something as "dForce" doesn't mean that, it's a pretty useless term. As a customer, I don't care if it was made with a potato peeler; I care about what I can do with it.

Felis, after that log entry, I get a dialog "Error preparing objects to simulat and collide" and the simulation ends without further log entries.

It does sound as if it should be simulatable, yes.

Select the hair in the Scene, select it in the Editor tab of the Surfaces pane, type Strength in the filter field at the top - is Dynamics Srength 0 or does it have a non-zero value or <?> (which would indicate a mix of different values)? If you look under Visibility in the Parameters pane is Visible in Simulation on?

  • There are four surfaces. Two have Dynamics Strength of 0; the other two have Dynamics Strength of 1.0. Setting them all to 1.0 has the same results as previously.

What about Visible in Simulation? That is also a surface setting, as well as a node setting, so you need to check both.

  • Visible in Simulation is set to On for the object as well as all surfaces. Sill "Error preparting objects to simulate and collide."

It does seem to work with Genesis 9, which does me no good as I don't use Genesis 9. It does not work with Genesis 8 or 8.1 Female. The compatibility list for the product says "Genesis 9, Genesis 8 Female, Genesis 8.1 Female."

This is also happening with me as well. The hair simulates quite beautifully with G9. However on G8, it throws an error every time no matter what. I am getting the same error Jack of Spades is getting, "Error Preparring Objects to simulate and Collide."

I purchased this product at full price without waiting for it to go on sale, which I rarely do, simply becuase it is a hair style I have been waiting for someone to do well. FE's products are ususally fantasic right out of the box. I need the versatility for both G8 and G9 because I use both. But this hair right now is useless on G8.

If it works on G9 but not on G8 it does sounds like a bug in the product.

So I would suggest creating a ticket to Daz.

I'll file a ticket, but it'd probably help if you do too suttojds. Every time I file a ticket they tell me to uninstall hundreds of products before they'll even consider trying to deal with the problem in the impacted scene.

Unfortunately it will be several days before I have enough time at home to do so.

I did file one last evening after I read your posts here. I hope this gets fixed soon. Its a beautifully done hair style.
