Anyone Else Still Having Issues With Main Page Freezing
in The Commons
The main store still freezes up as soon as it loads on my Android table with Chrome browser. It's somewhat better in the Duck Duck Go browser, but I don't like to use that one since the tablet version hides the back/forward navigation arrows. When there are multiple banners on the carousel (which is every day outside of the monthly festivals), it's nearly impossible to navigate through the banners
Am I the only one still seeing this kind of glitch?

I have exactly the same. Before the freeze I have around 67% storage used, after it's 71%. I think it's going through a download splurge to be quicker once all the images are downloaded. Unfortunately it doesn't happen and I have to clear out after every time I view the store otherwise everything else suffers a huge performance hit.
I have timed it, and the first AND ALL SUBSEQUENT store page openings take around 1 minute 40 seconds regardless of cashe status, during which time the tablet is locked and unable to do anything else. Basically it's bricked for that time.
My response: I now have direct bookmarks to the Vendor Links page, the Outlet Store and Quick Grab and don't look at the store front page at all unless I'm already in a bad mood and want it worsened.

Richard
Yup. It's up to 5-10 seconds after it initially loads up. Chrome on PC and Safari on mobile both have the issue.
yeah, it happens in Firefox W10 to me too. I so rarely go to the main store page now, it freezes for at least 30 seconds before everything loads in and I can scroll. It is incredibly annoying.
I think it is downloading a subset of the store data. But even that subset isn't small. And the delay is probably the javascript engine parsing the data.
But that's a total guess on my part.
about 25 second delay on my iphone
i definitely browse the store a lot less because of it
The first store visit is also slow for me. What's more annoying is I have to refresh the page to get the latest version of the site since the CDN always gives me a stale version during the first visit for the day.
edit: I reread what I just wrote, and if you consider that filters have to work on the whole catalog, maybe we could say it's operating on the entire store data. It is not downloading it though, those are cached.
It doesn't, for the most part. It downloads the prices for the entire store but that wouldn't explain a hitch a few seconds later since they're the prerequisite for all page loads (not just the main store page).
The only thing different the homepage does is load all the assets for what's visible (+ whatever is today's carrousel) and it runs the filters.
I'm willing to bet money that a big part of the issue is the filters! If other pages like Outlet work, the only real difference between them is that the filters on QG have to only filter through a few thousand items instead of the whole catalog. When I was profiling the store and testing it in my tablet I saw that somehow (fully unexpectedly to be honest), I had managed to speed up Daz's website.
I just ran two profilers for fun, and
normal Daz website:
with my extension on, it takes ~3.2s to fully interactive, and it's consistently half the time.
I disabled all other functionality of the extension except the replacement of the filter panel, and I still get exactly the same load times. So in my case, it's definitely the filters :)
Now I'm curious if I can get it even faster... maybe I'll try this weekend.
edit2: Nevermind the weekend, this was a fun challenge so I took a quick stab at it now. I was able to cut page load down by another second to ~2.3s. I'm sure more could be done but I don't know if easily, might need to replace too much Daz code to be practical... I'll see.
I wasn't saying the download was the delay. I was saying processing the data was the delay, which is applying the filters, like you said.
Yeah I edited when I reread my message and indeed it was just that
I have bookmarks to pages like, OS, QG, forums, etc. The big problem is with the carousel. Even when the rest of the main page unfreezes, the dots and arrows you use to go to different carousel banners stay frozen - unless I can time touching them just right as the loading finishes. So if there are multiple banners, it's very hard to get from the first one. Like Monday and Tuesday, with the catch-up code, the WL code, and then 2 daily sales banner/s. I couldn't get past the flash sale banner to the WL banner to double-check the code & restrictions, nor beyond to the banners with links to the Monday &/or Tuesday daily sales. Today I timed everything just right so I could get back to the Tuesday banner in case I missed something.
Here's what it looks like in Brave browser, an offshoot of Chrome. On a fairly snappy developer pc I used to profile the page load, Scripting category took about 4 seconds, but only downloaded 149 kB of data. (See the summary bottom center.) My guess is it's the search filters pane specifically the Artists category which loads every artist in the store and their item counts. If I click the Artists "Show more" link there's another shorter but substantial pause.
I also have the same "freeze" issue, firefox + edge, PC + android phone...
In case anyone finds it useful, as promised, I took a better look and pushed an update to BetterDazStore (BetterDazStore - New Addon (Filters, Deals, QoL changes)) which should make the homepage fast(er). Tested in Chrome and Firefox. By fast I mean 1s or less - in my case -, when without the extension it was 4-6s. Firefox was consistently slower than Chrome loading the homepage and benefits more from the improvements.
You can enable just that without enabling any other feature of the extension (just go to the settings panel and toggle everything off) except for the filter panel revamp, which is required for the bulk of the speedup.
I second this.
Slight improvement since I started this thread. I can now usually manage to reach 1 or 2 banners before the page freezes.
I definitely will try the BetterDazStore
