Render in New Window vs Render to File

I've only ever rendered in new window, apart from image sequences for animations where you don't get the option.

Is there any advatage in rendering directly to file?

The main one I see is that it doesn't use system resources to display the render window.

This does seem to be the case and main reason I render to file  - I do wonder whether this was related the CPU also ticked as a render core thing (where some people report better performance with that setting)... so, if you render to a window and have CPU ticked as a render core, some of the resources used to display that window are from the CPU (if you see what I mean).

I shall try and monitor resources for a comparison. TBF, I've found it useful so far to render to new window as it helps me spot any poke throughs that don't show up in Iray viewport. That way my mind is on the fix and spot render. If I render to file, I'll probably not even check and just move onto the next. Although for queues I run overnight, rendering to file could be the better option.

On the subject of queues, was the plugin Render Queue 2, or something like that? I've seen a couple of different plugins available in other stores so I'm weighing up my options at the moment.
