SiFi Boots crashing DS in Iray (preview and render)

I didnt find any thread on this, so i presume i'm the only one having trouble with this...

When i use the SciFi boots for G3F (from Smay: http://www.daz3d.com/sci-fi-boots-for-genesis-3-female-s ) and i try to render, or even when i swap from texture view to Iray view, Daz Studio crashes.

Since i don't have a NVidia Card, i only use CPU rendering.

Is there some trick to fix this?

Help PLZ !

Patrick.

I was told not long ago that sometimes having CPU checked for rendering makes DS crash and I've learned that to be true with a couple of renders I've done that crash with CPU checked, but renders fine when I have only my Nvidia card checked. There seems to be something in certain items that triggers this.

There might be the same problem here. I just tested to render the boots and it crashed when I had CPU checked. Rendering with only GPU it works, although it takes an awfully long time before anything happens. 6½ half minute before it got the first iteration done and then it ticks on with one iteration at a time.

They look good though. But it took 18 mins 11 seconds with 240 iterations to render them with my GeForce GTX 960 card.

Edit: For comparison: hiding the boots, it took 1 min 11 seconds and 243 iterations to render the bare legs.

Is this the Iray shader issue? If so, that's the one I have come up against. I had no idea it was related to the CPU only. I don't have an NVidia card, so I use only CPU rendering.

  • I have a similar issue with the Corset Lingerie for G3F set.

If the gloves or panties from that set are in a scene and iray render is selected Studio crashes.

After a bit of to and fro'ing with support we established that for some reason studio was trying to initiate gpu iray rendering even though I do not have an NVidia card and gpu is not selected. We never managed to establish why though. They both render fine if 3DL is the render engine selected.

Studio also crashes on me if the knives from Deadly Night Shade for G3F are in a scene.

I have no idea what causes the crash, only know that sometimes it just doesn't work with CPU.

There was a topic about the Corset Lingerie set here some time ago. It was revealed there that setting the Sub-d level on gloves/panties down to 1 made it work. For some reason it's set to 4 or 5 I think on those items when you load them. I'm pretty sure I made this test render (see attachment) then with CPU selected too.

On that topic, I should also mentioned that for the test render I did in the post above I had changed the Sub-d level to 1. It was set to 2. I made then made a test render with the level set back to 2 and it worked. Don't know how long it took as I was AFK, but when trying again it first cancelled the render and doing yet another try DS crashed.

  • If this is the Iray issue it should be fixed in DS 4.9, if you are seeing it in the 4.9 Beta please report it.

  • Thanks for the heads-up isidorn. I missed that thread.

Sounds good. I'm using 4.8 so I don't know if this is an issue in 4.9 or not.

    And you're welcome willowfan. :)

I am running on gpu and Im having a similar issue. Boots+ leather body suit + Karen 7 + force hair. I cancelled the render after 6:30 minutes at zero percent, it did not free up my computers memory until after 9 minutes. My second attempt minus the boots only took two minutes to get started. On my second attempt with boots I cancelled the render after 5 minutes at zero percent. I set metallocity to .35 (.90 is default) and attempted a third render and it locked up my computer and I had to hard boot it.

My card is no power house, gtx 770, but it works pretty well for iray. I think that there is something wrong with these boots and a bug needs to be submitted if no one has yet. If nothing is wrong with these boots however, they are completely impractical to use as is in my opinion. They should not be taking that long to render.

I had the same issue with the urban assault rifle. I finally decided to return it and was told it was a known bug and would be fixed if I updated to 4.9

Hmmm. I plan to go to 4.9 but only after its out of beta and ready for release. I guess ill hold onto the boots for awhile and then return them before my 30 days is up. Maybe ill just go ahead and write that bug anyways.
