Content Library Search Engine

Hello.

First and foremost, I beg pardon if this topic has already been covered, discussed and archived; yet I've run research in the forum and found pretty old posts that did not help with this issue. As per topic, I am struggling with the search engine in the Content Library, as it has begun - since a couple of days - not to work properly (i.e. it does find no item or finds a few even if it had been working just fine until last Friday, thus making for me having to manually search folder by folder (I use manual install of items rather than automatic one). I've tried uninstalling Daz 6, purging the CMS, reinitiating, and this and that. So far nothing has worked. Does anyone have had and/or is experiencing the same issue as me? Has anyone found a workaround to fix the issue?

Thank you all in advance, and sorry if this is a duplicate/triplicate/redundant topic. If moderators/admins believe so, please feel free to close and trash it.

Regards.

Is your content actually there in content directories DS knows about? My initial suspicions would be OneDrive moving the files, a drive letter chnaging, or a folder on the path being moved or renamed.

  • Hello Richard, thank you for your reply.
I checked, and the directories are the ones that are created upon installing Daz on my pc. I also checked OneDrive, and I keep it shut down for fear of backing up automatically what I don't want to be backed up. I also went for your last suggestions, but I couldn't find any evidence of misplacing/renaming a folder or a drive letter changing. My best guess is that I need to back up my library, uninstall everything, clean the system and registry, and reinstall everything from scratch. It's gonna be quite an annoying thing, but in the end I imagine it is the only solution that remains.

That may well be unnecessary. Please try doing a search, then attach the whole log file to a post. %appdata%/daz 3d/studio6/ and you want log.txt

    Hello Richard.
As per your last message, I searched for the log file and attached it to this reply. Hope that is the correct one and that it will help determine what's going on with my library.
Thank you so much for reaching out and helping.

Please try again, but don't load content or do a render - in the log file above doing that has pushed out the information that might have been useful. Start DS, do a couple of content library searches, close DS, and attach the new log file to a post.

Hello, I did as you told me, here is the log file. I did only two searches and closed DS as per your instructions.

Hmmm, not much helpful - though

is interesting. Oddly I don't get a message like that at all in the beta or general release.

  • Hello Richard, and thank you for your reply.
So I guess I have no other choice than either reverting to version 4 (uninstalling the current one, cleaning up, reinstalling a fresh version) or retrying with version 6 (with the same passages as for version 4).

Or run them both together. I have both DS 4.24 and DS 6 running simultaneously on my workstation most of the time. The only trouble this brings is if you are doing renders in both. (Even if it isn't at the same time.) I can't imagine running DS6 exclusively with all the plugins still in need of updates.

OMG, then I guess my original sin is to have ditched DS4.24 and kept only DS6, I'll try to re-install it and see. Thank you for the suggestion.
Just checked: DS4.24 content search engine works just fine. I guess DS6's needs a few tweaks but...

It seems to be an oddity, search works (apparently) normally for me in DS 6, so it would seem that soemthing is interfering with it on your system (database issue, though I would expect that to affect DS 4 too, or some particular add-on, setting, or even piece of content (perhaps one that is visible to one version and not the other).

I agree on the oddity, yet I ran several searches through DS4.24 and don't know why, but it works.

Are the content directories the same?

Yes, they are the same, or at least it's what I can see. Both programs access the very same content directories. Do you believe there might be something interfering at this stage?

It seems likely, I am certainly getting the same results in DS 4 and DS 6 on quick tests.

Hello Richard. The funny thing is that this mess started after I uninstalled DS4 and went on to use only DS6, then upon suggestion from another user in this conversation I did reinstall DS4.24 and the search function in it worked just fine. Ah, the oddities of computer programs.
