absurd items

I completely agree that there are indeed more and more products here that look like assignments that students just handed in to get by, I mean, it's obvious at first glance, right?

However, "stonemason" is one of the few artists here who creates high-quality items. Everyone's items might have some bugs, but that's far from "absurd." Furthermore, I completely agree with adding addon items—not the kind that change lighting or reassemble ruins. Many buildings and even vehicles lack interiors or movable parts; I need these kinds of addons.

...as I recall there were a few interior sets without a means of entry or exit save for maybe crawling out a window.  One of these the Vintage 1960s Office which I considered getting until I saw no way to get in or out (at least in the promos)   Imagine being trapped at the office your entire life with no way to get out. I've had nightmares about that.  There was a thread on this a few years ago an the cnscensus was even if a door does not open, just having one or two in a plausable location(s) on the walls somewhere would make a difference,

The interesting part is when I checked Google about the model, it mentions there are doors (4 of them that open and close), however as per the actual product description, those are on one of the cabinets (seems big G's AI needs to do more homework).

The model also has phones and desk lights with nothing connecting them to a outlet.  Granted there is a separate prop set that is just cords and wires which can remedy that, as well as one of the Room Creator sets (which has electrical outlets and light switches) but that is still a fair bit to have to add to set up a believable scene.

Sad as otherwise it is a great envionment.

There is a current horror movie that is popular 'Backrooms' about people trapped in hallways. Maybe that is a way to use all those DAZ+ hallways we have been given free over the years?

I use them for "fashion shoots", basically SFW pinups that don't need to "make sense". The monochrome ones work great. Stick the model near a weird feature with an unreadable expression and artful pose. Fashion!!!

ok how about this idea for a boat raft -for someone to make here

Mates sail dunny-dinghy to Kangaroo Island | Nine.com.au

In July 2026, Australian mates Alex Craig and Paul Graham sailed a homemade "floating dunny" raft carrying a toilet and a BBQ across South Australia’s treacherous Backstairs Passage from Cape Jervis to Kangaroo Island. They built the DIY pontoon barge to avoid a hefty $2,000 commercial ferry transport fee.

    The Floating Dunny Voyage Details

    • The Creators: Alex Craig and Paul Graham.
    • The Reason: Commercial ferry transport costs to get a toilet to Kangaroo Island exceeded $2,000.
    • The Vessel: A makeshift raft built on floating pontoons, fitted with a 9-horsepower motor,
    • a bolted-down outhouse toilet, and a portable BBQ.
    • The Journey: A 4-hour open-water trip across roughly 20 kilometers of shark-infested strait, complete with grilling ribs and sausages.

A news report capturing the homemade toilet barge and the mates on their open-water journey:

There are a lot of products in the store that make little sense or are historically/technically incorrect.  I've got to the point that I just sigh, wait for the price to drop to uber cheap, then treat them as sources for kit-bashing if there are bits that do look usable.  It's still a lot quicker and easier than building from scratch, and at least the DAZ TOS means that I don't have to worry about the rights issues that often come with freebies.  In the case of the Samurai Museum, there was more than enough to justify the $3.77 I ended up paying.

i would like an updated covered gypsy wagon with furnished interior and harness for a horse. the only one in the store is very old. its a missed opportunity, would have been a must buy for me with an interior.

I may be confusing it with something else, but I seem to vaguely recall having been playing a bit with one with interior at some point during the later years, but with 24.000+ arbitrarily named DAZ items in my library things can be hard to find, and nothing comes up when searching on relevant keywords.  I'm planning on categorizing everything in the near future though, so it should show up then if it's there.

i think i finally found the one you're referring to, its looks pretty good! Added it to my wishlist:

The problem with talking about older products is that there are so many PAs who are no longer here that the odds are strong that something that you reemmber isn't here anymore.  For example, weren't there a bunch of Iray upgrades to a number of the older products at one point, mostly by artists who are no longer here like Moyra, so the old wagon may have had an upgrade that's no longer in the store, while others who are still here have stopped selling some products in this store and moved them elsewhere.  Basically, I try to think of this store like a big virtual flea market... if you see something and you think you want it, you should probably try to pick it up sooner than later, because it may not be here the next time you look for it. ;(  Of course, this way of thinking is why I have an insanely huge collection of 3D products.

I have a bunch of Oso items in my wishlist that I'd put off buying because I didn't have an immediate need for them, and now they're all sitting at the bottom of the list, staring at me...

There are sometimes (lately more the before) absurd items, like today the Wayfarers Camp: How did the cart get to this place - there is nothing at it where it could be pulled? Or the "fruit an veg cart", same problem though possibly you could push it by yourself. But I would not have to push it around a corner . I remember another item (I think it was somewhat like a gypsy wagon) without a way to pull it.

Or the absolute absurd western steam engine! These 4-6-4 "Hudsons" were built decades later and just to put some old engine accessories (chimney, lamp) onto it ... it looks just stupid and is totally useless in any other than a crazy fantasy setting.

I use DAZ to make pictures for comics and those items - though they in itself are interesting (NOT the steam engine) it would take a lot of effort to change them to something useful.

Use imagination then... maybe the person built it put on wheels and figured "shit, this cart is not too heavy for a horse... even 4 horses... oh, well... it's a nice camping spot... I just make a stairs instead and call it home... and of course forget the door handles ;)" Not all Daz product have to be historical accurate... Oh tho I wish the Sci-Fi environments that Stonemason have could be more Sci-Fi and not with the "Asian" fonts... but rather just make up an more sci-fi text font... my opinion so I don't have to delete all the stuff to make it more "Star Wars" ;)

Or you could just put it thorough an AI program, which is almost certain to render the asian letters out as gibberish by the time it's done. ;)  (Note:  that was a joke, but it's funny because it's true.)

Oh yea, I'm well aware of all that.  Which is why I have almost 30.000 products myself, in total.

As for PAs leaving, if they move their stuff to another store it's normally not a problem if you know what you are looking for.  I just tried to do a batch check in DAZ Product Manager of the availability of 200 random products I purchased at DAZ in 2016, 181 of them are still available in the store, so it looks like there is a good chance of finding what you are looking for even for 10 years old stuff.  Also tried the same for 2024, exact same number actually.

I've actually seen one of those in real life, although it's technically closer to what amusement park ride afficionados would call an aerial carousel, rather than a true rollercoaster.  Again, this all comes down to a lot of DAZ products having names that are not really accurate.

Am I missing something? It looks like a kiddie coaster to me. Like they'd have one at a fair or in the kids section of the amusement park.

The train of a rollercoaster is free running on the track. The train on this ride is connected to a motorized central spindle. It's some sort of track-based flat ride similar to a cross between a Caterpillar or Music Express/Himalaya (central drive), and a Bayern Kurve/Olympic Bobs (train isn't connected in a full loop).

Plus it's very clearly meant to be part of a traveling fair, not an amusement park. Not that amusement parks don't sometimes have rides built for the traveling fair circuit, but this one literally says "Fair!" on it.

As a ride, it's not really absurd. It's just not what it says it is.

That's what we have down under we do have some proper theme parks but most have traveling shows like here in Tasmania where we have shows (traveling fairs) that last two or three days a year in each location so the rides/amusements have to be small and easy to erect and take apart for the next location video shows the various rides/attractions showbag alley extra

thanks for reminding me of it, I own it, forgot about it and never rendered it

not even loaded it to see if I can animate it

    update, pretty meh honestly

3 set morph positions for the cars, not rigged

I might be able to cut it up at best in Carrara and use motion paths and tracking

is Studio? still renders and AI animation at best
