Axel 9 - Discussion Thread

Axel 9 looks like quite the bundle. I'm very impressed with all the add-on bundles as well! Loving the mythology/fantasy theme. And the dForce Armor Wild Hunt Centaur Bundle placed in the HD Character Bundle? Very impressed. Normally DAZ saves these for the Add-On bundles.

The entire store is borked for me right now, but the promo images on the sales page look good, and COOOOOOOOOOOOOWS!

Would like to see the minotaur without axel smiley

Cows went straight into the cart and are now MINE! All mine. And between the purchase and going to product library the shop fell over, or someone forgot to feed the hamster.

Axel himself looks great, and seems to mix well. I like the mix examples with Walter and Astaroth.

I don't really need a minautor or cow/bulltaur right now, but these look very good. The minautor fur and beard look impressive. I wonder how heavy on the resources they are though.

I like the idea of matching armors for figure and horse/bull. I particularly like the Wild Hunt horse armor.

    Also, cows and bulls!

  • I also like Axel and all the example character mixes. Walter and Everett were charming & for some reason the smile on the Astaroth one put me in mind of Lou Ferrigno as The Hulk.

Having armor in the character bundle is nice but I would rather Daz would have structured the bundle like Centaur 9: male & female presets (single product), armor, weapon and poses.

I do love fantasy characters and these Minotaurs look great. I don't think I'd use the bovitaurs (why didn't Daz call them that?) but the plain old cow & bull, possibly.

TL/DR-grabbing character & Minotaur bundles ASAP.

Wow, that's a lot of stuff. I got Axel, his HD, and the cows.

Be careful if you are using the premiere character bundle coupon. The Cow bundle is also eligible for the coupon (first time I'm aware of that a non-g9 figure was eligible). So if it's in the cart before Axel, it will be free instead of the Axel bundle.

I used this month's voucher to get a cow, which is much more interesting than the characters. There are so many minotaurs here; could you introduce horse-headed characters next time? In my homeland, minotaurs and horse-headed men are messengers from hell who arrest the dead; I definitely need characters like that.

The theme is: cows + minataurs + Idris Elba. Nothing strange here.

Do a search in the store here for "Hoss" for genesis 9

Is there an easy way to convert the Minotaur's feet into hoofs?

  • caravellecaravelle Posts: 2,746

No. 100 (according to my count) is a base figure that leaves little to be desired: an imposing character (who actually bears a resemblance to the outstanding Sir Idris), opulent, imaginative detailing, and good, versatile morphs. I’m thrilled. The cows and bulls are also welcome, but for now they’ll have to wait a little longer on my wish list.

I think I've seen this before, but it's a bit too cute. Could that face be a little longer? Anyway, I've added it to my wish list. This is what I imagine it to look like.

Now that you've appeared, may I make a wish for a new dragon? (It should have two hands and two feet; this is just an AI demonstration.)

I dont want to derail this thread.....the horse head can be scaled up with the head size dial...and my "Royal Eastern 2"  should be close (at least close as I can get with the current dragon options)

There was (past tense) a fantastic set of horse-headed figures in the DAZ store, but they were by Oso who has since left the store and began selling as Willbear at 3DShards.  Unfortunately, the fantastic Horsemen characters for G8 that were here at have yet to transition over to that store, but he does have a new set of less furry horse-headed characters for G9 called the Horsefolk for sale there now.

Dang... I actually bought that and then forgot about it as I usually default to G8 and G3 when using DAZ Studio.  Which just goes to show that both this store and our product libraries really need a better search/indexing system.

Just some test renders. The character renders well under different lights.

As to the character... he's okay, but I'd really rather see fewer male figures that look like they'd be partially paralyuzed if they had a musclecramp.  Even Arnold Swarzeneggar now says that that the practices needed to develop those kinds of chiseled builds are extremely unhealthy, and he, himself, had to lose 30 pounds of muscle in order to play Conan.

I understand. I realize this seems to be the second time I've mentioned the Eastern Dragon. The Eastern Dragon has a unique symbolic meaning, so I'm asking for more. Next time, I'll try this version first to see what I can do. Thank you for your reply.

Oso Oh!  I remember now, but I'll try the Rawart version first; in fact, the balance between the two might be the effect I need.

AXEL's muscles are just right; I think they're at a healthy level.

The AXEL variant on the banner ad is interesting; if it weren't for hard drive capacity limitations, I would definitely add it to my library.

I'd say the male figures have the most body diversity of the Core Genesis 9 characters (not including add-on shapes). Compared to their female counterparts, but that's a topic for another thread. There are about 30-35ish (not fantasy) male figures, and of them, only about 4 have bodybuilder-esque forms (Thomas, Julian, Calum, and Axel). You could also include bulky and athletic builds (such as Dain, Harlow, and Bishop), but those forms aren't as hard to maintain as an Arnold Schwarzenegger or Chris Hemsworth.

Many thanks to @NewGuy for keeping an up-to-date list of Core Genesis 9 Figures (found here). Made this reply extremely easy.

I did a quick test comparison of the core tall-dark-handsome guys. Axel is a little more red, but certainly him, Bishop and Laurence look like they could be brothers.

The add-on character is not bad, but to make him look like a younger man I swapped out the textures for Xola's. The version with Xola's skin on the right:

    A cool bull.

Romance cover test with muscle-add on Zahara. None of the shirts I had drapped well over Axel's huge arms.

My main complaint is that almost every eyebrow I tried sat too low in the socket. Otherwise I like him. I've swapped the brows out in a few of these pics.

Is Harlow not tall, dark or handsome enough for you?

Despite owning almost every single gen9 figure, I do not have Harlow. I forgot he existed.

@Write Idea, no problem.  I find it handy for searching for which character I want to use for promos.

@sid, I'm two short of all 100.  Just missing Koa and Chert the Troll.  Although I got about a third from DAZ for free (as a PA).  With so many it is easy to forget a few sometimes (I even forgot about Chert), hence the edit.
