New hard drive

I bought a new hard drive. Currently my content library is split between 2 drives of insufficient capacity. What would be the easiest way to move the content to the new drive. I have a lot of garbage in my Postgre Database. I'm considering reinstalling the database and starting from scratch. (I do have a third small hard drive holding all the installation zips. So I wouldn't have to download it all again.)

Will Content Library | Content DB Maintenance | Reset Database do what I'm trying to do?

And am I better off using "Re-Import Metadata" compared to reinstalling from DIM?

The reset command will completely clear the database, then you can reimport metadata to put the products back in - but that won't restore any chnages you have made, or your own files. You can export user data from the same dialogue, but that is all or nothing. Reinstalling ios needed only if you don't have the files installed, but note that DIM does track the absolute locations - unlike the CMS which cares about only the relative location. DS Custom Actions also care about the absolute location, so if the files are moved those will break.

I suggest you simply merge two libraries into one library on the new drive... reinstalling product or resetting database + re-importing metadata will nearly help nothing with "cleaning garbage" in cms.  Then re-configure CDM.

Bear in mind that most of the "garbage" (wrong assignment of content type /categories, redundant / duplicated categories, LOST AND FOUND, broken references...etc. etc) in cms came from metadata in the product packages, if you do not fix them from the origin, re-install / re-import will just bring them back...

As for Custom Actions that use absolute locations of DUF/DSA/DSE as well as folders..., you can simply replace the drive letter / path in: %appdata%\DAZ 3D\Studio4\customactions.dsx by using Notepad++. Then new library won't break anything related to custom actions in Scripts / Favorites, etc.

Edit: As for the "garbage" in LOCAL USER (if that's the case you have, mostly...), you can easily fix them in LOCAL USER.

I created a new PostgreSQL location. But DIM still found the older CMS. I suspect it does that via Manifest files.

I've edited the appdata dsx files by hand many times in the past.

You need to set up the new cms cluster folder in : Preferences > CMS Settings tab

I did. It created all the default Postgre files. But DIM could still see what was or wasn't installed. But Daz had tons of errors in the log files and would constantly ask if I wanted to install stuff.

I gave up. Wiped the installs and I'm spending the weekend watching DIM install all the packages. (At least I don't have to download them)

DIM does not use the CMS to tell it waht is installed, it uses the manifest .dsx files in the manifest Archive (as set in Advanced Settings)

I renamed the manifest directory and it still found the stuff. I have already given up though.

It also doesn't explain Daz not finding data files that were sittting there in the content library in the correct path: (one example)

    2026-07-04 07:05:43.548 [ERROR] :: Open File Failed - Could not read file: /data/Khory and Dreamland/Glass Paperweights/Votive Candle/UV Sets/Khory and Dreamland/Base/default.dsf

There were thousands of those and when the scene was loaded a lot of stuff was missing.

This why I'm reinstalling my library. Hopefully it'll be done by Tuesday. I have over 10,000 shop items.

When you say they were in the right place, was the data folder in the folder you have selected as a Daz Studio Content Directory?

Yes, Richard. I know how to setup directories. I've only been a windows programmer for 35 years.

The INI file and the Content Directories in Daz were pointing to base directory containing the data folders listed above. And yet the log above exists. I added a drive and move the library to the new drive letter. It was a big mess.

EDIT: Apologies for being a bit snippy. You had to ask. I just overreacted.

Actually it says could "open file failed", not could not find - though I may be mis remembering how it reports failures to find. Do the files actually show correctly in content panes? Have you tried opeing a file in a text editor, or if that is gibberish teesting it with an archive tool such as 7Zip?

I did not try that. And I'm 60% done with reinstalling the content library through DIM.
