55% Sales

So, why exactly are they less than normal; 60, and even more is pretty common.

I guess they figure Black Friday is a feeding frenzy.

People will just buy any old thing at any old discount.

The only problem being with this way of thinking is my inbox is just full of far better deals.

I find the timing weird too.  This is the time where many people are also looking to buy themselves something nice maybe splurge a little.

Why a store would want to roll out some of the most underwhelming discounts of the year now is quite beyond me.

  • I think they have been spreading themselves too thin, too many broad sales too often.

It used to be an item came on sale on rare occasions if lucky and you grabbed it, now its meh, there will be another day, the rat has gotten lazy pressing the bar.

I can agree with that.  It might even be a good idea.

I just don't get the timing.

That kind of drastic change should have been implemented as some kind of DAZ New Years Resolution.

Not during one of the biggest end of year shopping windows.

I'm not angery or anything, I just find it curious.

But Steam, RDNA, and a few others could send DAZ a thank you card.  :)

If I was a professional who needed specific items to do a job, I'd be fine with whatever prices and glad for the small sales.

As a hobbyist doing this for fun, there's really not much incentive for me to expand my collection even further unless it's something really standout or a really good deal.

This mess of 30+ pages at a time rotating at 55% off isn't really my idea of a well thought out sale (which is odd, because I thought marketing was basically the main focus of Daz these days.)

@Ix yup, I agree with what you've said.

Prices go up, sometimes by what seems to be quite a bit, then the discount is less; kind of a double-whammy.

Ahh well, as you said, it is a hobby, and I can wait. I've got about eleven months to spend the credit I have so there is plenty of time.

Nothing in my wish list on sale, although yesterday there was, but at 55%, so it was a matter of ignoring; well there is one item, but that has 69% so not part of the current sale, so thinking I'll get.

But Steam, RDNA, and a few others could send DAZ a thank you card.  :)

Yup. Have a good discount voucher from rendosity, and am checking out my wish list to see if feel like spending, or to carry on enjoying the company of my own cash for a bit longer. Not so long ago, it seemed to be I was simply minding Daz's cash for em. :)

    Daz Original items are 69% (30% + the 55%) if you're a PC+ member.

If I hadn't been saving up waiting for the Black Friday sale I would have spent way more on the Daz Figures when they were selling at that 69% price the other day. Ah well, their loss.

I also have a discount coupon from Rendo, but as it excludes everything not currently at full price, it makes it completely useless IMHO. I have not shopped there for ages.

I was very tempted to buy Eva 7 but I resisted : ) If I were PC member and she was at 69% off though, she would have landed in my cart : )

Speaking of Daz figures, I know they're old and most people probably have them (and Aiko needs V4) but the Aiko 4 Pro and Michael 4 Starter bundles are currently 55%/69% off because they still credited the various artists for those so they're appearing in the sales.

For anything M4/V4 people might be better off waiting for the next 80% off sale. Also remember that both M4 and V4 pro packs, and other stuff were being given away in August for free.

I wonder how often it shifts. A+B+C alone are 1900+ items so if it shifts say every 3 hours you could probably spend the whole weekend full time browsing everything from A-Z.

  • lx_2807502lx_2807502 Posts: 2,996

I didn't think it was the deal of the century, but if I really wanted those two bundles and had for some reason refused to buy them at 80% 2 days ago then 70-80% on those isn't a big difference and turning back time to August is quite tricky.

Realistically though I just found it interesting that there were still Originals bundles around that were credited to specific artists for their content.

Judging by yesterday's flash sales, sale 1 will last for 8-9 hours while America sleeps. They'll then rush through the next 5 packs in 2-4 hour intervals and then put all of them up at once for the last four hours (this is not fact don't base your shopping off me.) Then hopefully the new day will roll around and there'll be something worth buying! Sundays usually have the most meh sales though so probably not.

When I first saw it it was 3+ am Daz-time, and now it is 6:30 Daz-time - still the same ABC, I worked out if they have 27 catagroies (Alphabet + numbers/special) it could be 8 hours each Sat-Mon, so it wont change for another 90min yet - I'm guessing, of course. And I'll be asleep for GHI ;-)

The sale went up ~6hrs30 mins ago - not sure what that is in Daz time.

We know there are 6 categories (you can load them all now, just change the URL - 2 and I think it was 5 are hilariously massive) and they pretty much did the same thing yesterday with the sale pacing catering to America's daylight hours (which is why this first sale lasts forever.)

At least we have time to browse through everything, while that part of the world is still asleep. :)

  • I was hoping for Michael 7 to be on the 55% off sale, or at least the Victoria 7 figure. :(

  • TaozTaoz Posts: 10,258

Well it just shifted to DEFGH now.

BTW, if you're on Windows you can use this to get notified (within 1 minute if you like) whenever they shift.

    Oh that's cool.

Alternatively if you aren't in windows or don't want to install anything there's a running thread here:

    http://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/21605/flash-sale-alerts

Someone will generally post whenever there is a new sale giving you an email alert if you subscribe to it.

I've bought more during this sale than I probably have in the past year, so no complaints here.

M7 is still new, so it is unlikely he will be on sale over 30% until mid January of next year. Having said that, some items, particularly Daz Originals, do go on sale before the full 60 days of their "New" period is over, so it is always possible.

  • lx_2807502lx_2807502 Posts: 2,996

He was on sale until a few days ago so it's highly unlikely he'd go back on sale that quickly. V7 was on sale a few times during the past month including ~2 days ago?

  • Oso3DOso3D Posts: 15,085

If it were me, what I'd do is give everyone, oh, 50% off on first $100 of purchases a month (or some value), excluding new purchases (except in special circumstances). And then maybe the normal PC+ sale structure on top of that.

Sooo... it would become 'do I really want to wait on this?'

And you'd really encourage people to SPEND at least $100.

Because, right now? There's a heap of stuff I haven't bought because their sales haven't coincided with my money. The current system encourages waiting possibly FOREVER. And it also means, over time, there's a chance I'll end up getting something similar/cheaper that comes around the pike.

For example, there's a big shader pack I've been wanting to get for a while. It's almost $40. I'm waiting for a good sale (which is probably going to hit today when I don't have money for it, which ticks me off).

In the meantime... a cheaper shade pack came out that was $5 on sale. Welp. Now I spent $5 instead of $20-30, and am that much less likely to ever get the shader pack.

You can check ahead to see what's coming. Just replace the number at the end of the sale page with 3, 4, 5, 6. They are not on sale yet, but you can check out what's coming.

  • Oso3DOso3D Posts: 15,085

I'm pretty sure it's coming. But I'm not going to have any more money later today or tomorrow.

I just wish I had known it was coming a few days ago. ;)

PC+ Iray shader packs have saved me so much. They're probably the only thing I can think of that are 100% buy the moment they come out.

Apparently Daz used to do the 'spend x to get x discount' while a % reduction sale was on, but don't seem to anymore? I don't know why - it'd make me more interested in spending.

Nowadays the tiered 'buy 1 for 30% 2 for 40% 3 for 55%' ones only come along with a bunch of average items I'm not particularly interested in. I was thinking it'd be cool if there was something along the lines of 'buy character x and get one of hairs y or z for super cheap and clothing 1 2 or 3 for super super cheap on top' but it probably wouldn't appeal to that wide an audience overall. Having a money target to buy anything we want in the store seems so much more appealing. I want to buy the items that I want to buy, not the ones I'm told to buy.

  • TaozTaoz Posts: 10,258

The items from the ABC cat seem to be on sale still.

  • lx_2807502lx_2807502 Posts: 2,996

There are some really funny things going on with the sale but they're mostly with irrelevant items so I don't know if anyone has noticed or cares. Got some nice oldies I wanted at ridiculous prices though.

When was this? Man, did I miss it? I have been trying to check the sales almost every hour during the last two days. I would always see him at 30% not 55%... :(

  • CybersoxCybersox Posts: 9,278

And just to make the sale lamer, it appears that most (but not all) DAZ bundles are being cut out of the current sale cycles.  I didn't really expect to see many G3 sets on uber-sale yet, but there are still a few of the later G2s that I could be convinced to buy if the price was right.
