Submitted DS6 versions of all my plugins today. Will appear in DIM at some point. Suspect it could be a while, probably a flood of plugins for QA to go through now.

Hey all. As you few 3D mousers know, the old plugin is not working and there's no plan to make it work in Daz Studio 6. So here's mine:

Thank you for providing this for free.

I like the look and feel of the new interface and the AI has already helped me fix a problem that was bugging me. However if I couldn't use my SpaceNavigator, I would have had to go back to the old version.

    Great news, thanks.

I will wait with any serious work until at least the shelf works. Great peace of software that should have been part of the Studio. Well done!

If it would contain subfolders it would be perfect.

Cool. What do you mean by subfolder?

Spending $250 on the compact SpaceMouse kit 2 a few weeks ago before finding out that it was broken in DAZ truly pissed me off, so thanks for this timely fix.

As a long-time Carrara user, where there's only a sliver of clunky 3DConnexion support left in the way of abrupt jumps of zoom-in/out and nothing else, I certainly think you could fill that void with a for-pay plugin if you found the time to make one.

EDIT to add: I'm on Carrara 8.5 and still on DS4.24, and won't touch DS6 untill it is much more stable, and has updated plugins from A-to-Z.

Sure, and thanks for the tip :) Carrara & 3d mouse? Yeah that's essentially just you probably. Something tells me that is gonna bankrupt me more than anything. Got enough of financial struggles going on in this current niche I'm in to consider going even more niche.

    @bluejaunte ...

Well, I'd like to think I'm not the only one, but you're probably close to ballpark accurate on what volume of us there might be that have both Carrara _and_ a SpaceMouse. Something to keep in mind though if you get bored.

Well there are at least two of usdevil

Thank you very much, I don't plan on using Daz Studio 6 anytime soon. LOL, need the community to beta test the bugs out of this new software before taking the plunge. The truth is DS4 with OpenGL or Filament is enough for my renders, because I use ComfyUI and Qwen Image Edit to fix my renders and lighting. I do I use my Space Mouse alot and it is a great tool for getting around in 3D space and working on modeling and stuff. Thanks this is a life saver.

You're welcome, but if it's a life safer do please consider giving some money. I was basically unable to pay all the bills last month because I developed this instead of some commercial product.

Your plugin alone saved Studio 6 for me, thank you ver much!

I still don't understand why DAZ decided to remove the native support. Each and any professional 3D software supports it, starting at CAD with CATIA / 3DExperince, Creo, NX.... to modelling / animation software like Maya, Blender and so on. I can't get used to the mouse only controlls, my brain can't wrap around them.

The plugin works like a charm, very well done. If this is coming to DIM - very nice! If you consider making it a paid plugin I'll be the first to buy it.

To all other DAZ user out there: Try to get a space mouse, even the cheapes or an used / older one will do it. When setting up, invert all axes, way more intuitive to use. You will be amazed about the level of fine controll over your viewport and your cameras.

Great to see that there are more people than I thought would be using 3d mice. Still way too niche to sell in the store. Hence the Buy Me A Coffee link. Although I kind of hate the name. I don't need coffee, I need income. laugh

Cool. What do you mean by subfolder?

Lets call the top icons "tab" and the page "shelf".
Currently you can add an item or a directory link into a "shelf", while you can add shelf-tabs on the top. Too many tabs will mean you have to scroll (which I find suboptimal).

If you could now add a subshelf-icon into the shelfs, which would open to a new shelf - or per default a line of sub-tabs on the top of each shelf - one could create a full content tree with that tool.

And while we are here... an option (aside remove and rename) to jump to the folder of a linked item would spare me from adding both item and folder into a shelf, so that I can reach the options of said item (like, eg, Hair).

If either makes it, I am willing to pay for it anew :-)

If its still unclear I can add some screenshots.

Shelf is the whole thing. Tabs are at the top and items in each tab. You want to have multiple shelfs with their own set of tabs inside?

Ctrl-click on an item does what you want I think. Mentioned in promos and manual.

    Hi. bluejaunte

in your original post you say.

"if you want to use the same one for DS4, that's here (disable the old plugin called 3D Connexion or you'll probably get both of them fighting for the input):"

As I use both Space Navigator and Cad Mouse Pro. Will this be possible?

    Many Thanks

I would assume so yes. CAD mouse is just a regular mouse, shouldn't conflict with anything. What I meant by that is you can use the plugin in Daz Studio 4 as well so it feels the same as in Daz Studio 6.

By the way, this is interesting. I'd be curious to know what you guys do with your axis. I would think my default setting is more intuitive. It's essentially WASD movement. The 3D mouse acts as a camera. When you push forward it moves forward, you push left it goes to left etc.

What you describe is more like your brain is imagining you are dragging the scene or the object. So pulling back means your are dragging the scene towards you, hence zooming in.

This is my first go-around with a spacemouse, so I don't have a historical reference on how it was meant to work in DAZ before, so I'll just give you my expectations how'd I would assume it would/should work now...

Like You, I think in terms of 3D manipulation, as "what happens if the physical object were sitting in front of me" terms, and yes if I pull back towards myself - either on a traditional mouse, a CAD mouse, or a SpaceMouuse - I would hope that I'm pulling an object closer to me, i.e., zooming in. The same goes for up/down/left/right rotational and vertical sliding movements. I'd want each to mimic the surface orientation of objects to match hand movemnts. I'm aware there are additional buttons that also serve up various functions, but I'm a lot less concerned with what they do for the moment, as I'd likely not have any need for anything beyound what I'd get with the SpaceMouse, plus a standard keyboard and a traditional (optical/laser) mouse.

I guess that might change over time once I'm accustomed to a new setup, but for now I'm happy when I don't have to constantly seek out and swipe over to someplace else on-screen to use a 'gadget' or navigation gimbal.

  • You've just become my personal hero with this, at least for all of today. I got into Daz 6 thinking it will be shiny and then something fundamental to my workflow is broked.

Thanks, man. I'll buy some of your stuff.
