DS ALPHA / BETA Confusion

I'm confused. Has development of DS moved from Alpha to Beta?

The title of this thread by Daz Software says Beta:

https://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/728111

The first post now says "Daz 3D is pleased to announce Daz Studio 6 Beta - version 6.25.2026.14722!", but in a chat with the onsite AI, it insists that DS is still in ALPHA.

We're halfway through the year now and it's hard to imagine I'm the only one starving for more information about what's going on with DS development.

Thanks in advance for any info anyone can provide.

- Greg

Never take an LLM (“AI”) at its word. Even an “official” chatbot.

Daz Studio 6 (2026) is in beta.

I hope you're right and DS is still being actively developed. I would like nothing more than exactly that!

I want to see DAZ succeed as a company, and even more so the PAs.

Yes, trust the thread (and package) names over the AI. "Victoria" is one of the more helpful AI bots I have come across, but certainly not infallible.

Is there a link to any info about the beta? I just checked the blog, but the last entry I see is from 2025, so it seems like something's not working on my end for some reason. Thanks.

Yeah thanks I've read that thread. Guess I was expecting some sort of announcement talking about all the new and exciting features coming in Daz Studio - my bad!

Read through the evergreen thread as well. It's been a little over a year since they had to adapt all prior work on "the version of daz after 4" to the new NVIDIA IRAY version. A lot of stuff is in there. But it's all incremental changes by nature. Not a single big drop with a big fanfare.

Your end is fine. Someone is not working at the Daz end. The 2025 entry is the last blog entry as of May 30, 2026.

Thanks, Barbult - good to know it's not just me. Might be a good place to post a message saying "Hey the latest version of DS is now in beta"? <shrug> lol

Why take the word of an "AI" bot over an official regularly updated thread?

Because Daz put it in the lower right hand corner of every page on their website specifically to communicate with customers? lol

During the conversation, it specifically said, and I quote:

"It’s labelled Beta on the download page, but it’s still an Alpha build under the hood."

I don't spend much time in the forums any more and navigating the forums was very slow (pages were taking forever to load), so I asked the chatbot. Is that not what it's for?

Maybe it is an Alpha build under the hood. Lots of people are still complaining about viewport issues. A working viewport seems pretty fundamental to a usable product. However, they continue to work on DS6 and are giving us new releases pretty frequently now, regardless of what label is stuck on it.

There's no meaningful definition of alpha or beta. Both mean it isn't done yet. Alpha just implies that it's less done compared to beta.

No one wants Daz to be compatible with 50xx series GPUs more than Daz does. It won't be ready until it is.

That's good to hear, Barbult - thanks for the info. Guess there's nothing to do but be patient and check in next year.

In software development, the formal defintion of “alpha” is software that is under development with UI/feature changes/additions still in progress, but in a potentially somewhat useful (though buggy and incomplete) state for user testing. “Beta” is software that is is feature-complete (no further changes to UI/features planned for the version under development), but still in need of testing, as well as work to fix bugs and optimize the code.

Both are typically considered sufficient to ship to testers, but not sufficient for full “release”.
