The first rule is "Scan first, dine later"

Though I suspect that they would do better if the first offiicers (or whatever their rank is) crossed the streams so they could pool their resources and buy a ship of their own (with their first rule being "No professors or other academics")

    Always! "Scan twice, eat once!".

Captain Quinn Callahan and his partner and First Mate Freya Álfdís own and operate The Róisín Dubh (Little Black Rose), an older, small trader working the fringes of Concord Space. They're former Concord Pathfinders (motto: Mission Before Self) who are actually masters of "insertion and extraction".

Chartered by the Science Foundation to ferry the Professor on a type of "Science Safari", it turns out the odd phenomena the Professor is investigating just happen to put them in situations outside of any rational "norm". Sneak in behind enemy lines? No problem, back in time for tea. Deal with evil spirits and Cthulhu-like monster creatures from your worst imagination? Not in the manual...

Testing out a new cast for a possible novel or series of short stories; Owen Flynn and Katherine "Kat" Kelly, crew of Flynn's Folly.

They tend to get in trouble… a lot.

HAHAH Your dialogue is really fun! I am really enjoying the banter between all your different characters and how clear their individual personalities are - it really comes out in their banter. Thank you for the laughs! :D

Is there another "Quinn" I just missed somewhere? I can always go with my backup, "Conor" or "Declan".

I needed an Irish name to use with the ship's name, "Róisín Dubh; I'd been using "Jack O'Ryan" as a placeholder (Jack Orion) but felt it too close to Tom Clancy's hero. I was going to go with Jack Murphy (thinking in terms of "Murphy's Law") but noticed that the name is used by a podcaster. Next up, "Callahan" in need of a given name and I remembered an old friend from grammar school, "Quinn" (it also means "leader" or "Chief" or "Wise", which doesn't hurt).

Hasn't he learned not to say things like "Before something else bad happens" by now? Or was that a deliberate attempt at a deistraction?

Sorry I missed the Saturday morning roster with this one, hopefully in time for Sunday morning coffee?

Another fun outing for the Captain and Science Officer of the Starship Hrimfaxi. How are they even still alive?

A quick peek back at the antics of the crew of Flynn's Folly:

As an interesting side note, I fed all of the cartoon images I've done with this crew into Gemini and askd Mr. G to describe the heroes.

His analysis (it's actually much longer, delves into each character, how they might work in a graphic novel or cartoon, etc.) in a nutshell:

Narrative Impression: Disaster Magnets in an Infinite Galaxy

Looking at these specific snapshots, the premise promises a fast-paced, episodic adventure with an underlying serialization. They feel like space-faring pulp heroes who intend to just do a little trading or exploring, but inevitably end up triggering ancient security systems or offending local factions.

    Mr. G nailed it!

The crew of Flynn's Folly continue their misadventures. In this one, they have a robot with them!

Truth be told, Flynn never liked that robot...

Not to mention the mention of the Roman official and his wife from Life of Brian. So many laughs from a single post...

@Stezza Just one query. Given that it's a take on the pronunciation of the letter R, is the spelling of wraith a deliberate mis-spelling?

Sorry, I'm a grammar Nazi angel

Yes, it's on purpose; that's why it's "Welease" instead of "Release". In The Life of Brian, Pontius Pilate can't say the letter "R". In The Life of Brian, he has rhotacism, which causes him to replace the "R" sound with a "W" sound, resulting in iconic lines like "Welease Woger!"lled rhotacism, which causes him to replace the "R" sound with a "W" sound, resulting in iconic lines like "Welease Woger!"
