Holding hands
in The Commons
I want to make two G9 actors walk hand in hand in a scene. Getting them to interlace their fingers in a lot of work. Is there a trick to this? Seems like someone would have written a script and put it up for sale...

It is hard, very hard to do. If there's a trick to it, I've never found it, and I'm not aware of any script either.
In the image here: https://www.renderosity.com/gallery/items/3030742/gentle-giant-finds-his-other-half . By the time I was half way through, I was planning to have their fingers interlocking, but chickened out at the last moment because the it was really hard, and subtly changed the pose to a finger point as if she was declaring herself in favour of a kitten. Then a few years later, I did get the couple to hold hands here: https://www.renderosity.com/gallery/items/3234447/enjoying-each-others-company, It took, ooh, over an hour just on the two hands. Not easy. Very not easy.
(The couple have a long future ahead of them, I'm sure. The latest is when he forgets to fill the cat food bowls: https://www.renderosity.com/gallery/items/3239482/what-were-you-thinking . Hand holding will feature again in their future.)

Richard
I reckon 3D Universe's LimbStick could do what you're looking for:
My trick is to nudge the palms into contact, then open PowerPose and twiddle the fingers until my patience runs out.
The shortcut is to find a pose collection that contains something close enough.
Hope this helps. Best of success.

it's a lot more difficult in DAZ studio than other softwares
Carrara and iClone one can at least track and pin bones from 2 figures to each other so one only needs to sort out the posing of the fingers
D|S has never had a good solution for this
Do you mean by default? Have to say LimbStick is absolutely perfect for this. All you do is stick the hands of each character together with LimbStick, position the hands and the interlocking of the fingers, and both characters' hands and fingers stay perfectly aligned, while the rest of the character moves.
Handy for stills work as well, since you can repose the characters without losing any hard work you did posing the fingers.
well you just told me more about limbstick than anyone else in one sentence
I might buy it, will wishlist for now
I don't think I have ever before made an holding hand.
So I did a quick test.
But as I was posing the eyes Daz closed without warning. The pose will vary from couple to couple as hight is a factor that needs to be taken into account.
@Wendy
It's jaw dropping to think you don't have it. It's a 'Wendy Toolkit Essential' for sure is that one :-D
Out of curiosity, are the videos attached to my post not showing in your browser? If they are and you've not seen them, at least watch the second video which is less than a minute and shows a couple walking and holding hands among other examples.
I never knew LimbStick is a tool that can be used for stills. Thanks for mentioning this, it's on my WL now.
videos show, no hadn't clicked
I haven't used it because I didn't really render many videos in DAZ studio until Filament and then when I was given a decent video card by TheMysteryIsThePoint
before that, nearly every thing I did was Carrara, Unreal, iClone, Poser and everything else except DAZ studio
it was just too slow
even now I mostly use Twinmotion backgrounds and png series rendered in DAZ studio added in post
I have asked a lot about Limbstick and other plugins, scripts etc but the answers I get are very vague and unhelpful
I even asked specifically if it could do stuff like hold hands only to be told by people who own it I don't think so
so yeah
its quite amazing how many people buy stuff and don't actually use it
and I can't afford to buy stuff I can't use so pick and chose carefully
@3DSaga
Sure, you basically just do the same as you would do for animation, so nothing to stop you using it for stills.
@Wendy
Ah right. Thought I'd better check cause I've read that for some people, videos don't show on some forums. Regards usage, well put it this way, what's to stop you running it in unrendered mode in order to generate 'Control Net' videos for AI, so that you can get it to do something specific?
Technically it's probably quicker than realtime, due to the speed it calculates the frames.
BTW ..Limbstick is part of the Genesis 8 mega sale. With a new item over $1 its in my cart for $2.60.
I used a DAZ+ item @ $3.77, so it leaves low cost. it shows 10 items @ 60% off no buy-in or 90% off with over $1 buy-in. Not sure if thats for 10 or not. I'm going to pile them in to see.yep, 10 @ 90% off
Thank you so much for the heads up. I ignored this sale because I didn't realise DAZ+ items qualified as new items (they so often don't that I didn't bother to read any further). I also piled items into the cart (including Limbstick :) and ended up with $283 G8 items for $21 with 5 tokens, and $3.14 for an unwanted DAZ+ product didn't seem so bad. Without that product my cart would have been $85 with the 60% off and 5 tokens. Yay for the forums, I would have majorly missed out if I hadn't been browsing over my afternoon coffee.
Edit: I swore only the day before yesterday I WAS NOT buying anymore women's clothing...enough already!! And seven more outfits later...sigh
as a base member, it's not on sale for me but may be one day
not urgent
..did this one ages ago in the 3DL/UE days.
Getting the hands right was ratheir involved.
I just noticed the hands in the new release from Zeddicuss https://www.daz3d.com/z-pull-me-closer-couple-poses-for-genesis-9-and-8. While they are more 'grasping' hand movements, they might be able to be used as a beginning. Unfortunately the promo does not show any indication of their body part breakdowns.
