Iray textures for older products

I'm really surprised that I haven't seen more Iray texture sets for older products now that 3delight is gone. For example the old daz dinosaurs that are still being put into sales. Seems like a no-brainer from a business standpoint.

Can't you just apply Iray Uber shader and adjust as needed?

Why is it everytime I come to the product suggestion thread and make a suggestion, people respond as if I need help? Of course you can tweak the old textures. New and better pbr textures could be made as well though. If I was looking for help I'd ask for it in the appropriate place.

I think it was a question - whata re you wanting that would not be covered by the auto-conversion? It certaiinly would not be realistic to expect a full rework with additional maps unless someone did a full new product, at new product price rather than deep back-catalogue price.

In general asking for clarifiication or suggesting alternatives is perfectly legitimate as a reply - few, if any, suggestions/requests are likely to be met entirely.

Because by the nature of the 3D softwares(in general, not just Daz), an expresion of a product desire/suggestion is more often than not interpreted as 'i want to achieve this'. And lots of times the goal can be achieved, maybe in different degrees, but without requiring a new product.

People here by nature will try to help others achieve a goal. If it is for 'free' or already 'exists', even better.

What people are telling you is those textures could be made by you. What people are saying is this isn't going to happen for free. Do you really think the PAs should be on the hook for updating something they released 10+ years ago for free?

My god, this is why I stay away from public forums. The title of this thread is "product suggestions" not "I need help". From a business standpoint, making an update for a product that people already own is a good way to sell stuff, which is the point of any business. I never suggested that PAs need to be on the hook to make anything, a new texture set doesn't have to be made by the same artist that made the product initially. I'm just saying that if Daz made stuff like this, I'd probably buy it. Shouldn't that be the point of a thread called "product suggestions"?

"product suggestions" That means Daz is asking us to tell them what we want them to make, am I right? If you're not interested in them making new texture sets for old things, just don't respond to this thread.

If I was trying to achieve something and wasn't sure how, I'd ask for help. Did I ever ask for help? Does anything about my initial post sound like I am asking for help?

I understand your point. However, realistically I can't see it happening as there are plenty of other options for conversion already available, especially when some assets are a decade old or more.

I've accidentally used 3DL materials in renders before (I'm still relatively new at all of this) and to be honest, DS converted every one just fine. There's been very litttle noticable difference between iRay and 3DL in the finished render. Certainly not something your average punter would notice.

The point of a "product suggestions" thread is pretty simple in my mind. Somebody posts an idea for a product they'd like to see on the store, then other people either say "yes I'd buy that too" or just don't respond if they're not interested. Then if enough people say "yes I'd buy that too" Daz will know there's a bunch of people out there that will buy this particular thing and then will be more inclined to make it.

But if we're all so focused on figuring out how to work with what we already have that we treat this thread like a help thread, we probably won't realize that we could collectively have some input into the type of products that end up in the store.

unfortunately it isn't apparently easy to add the PA only dforce fur to legacy Poser content or I am sure someone would have at least made proto feathers for those dinosaurs

    we plebs of course cannot

Are you really upset that people are trying to help you? Really? People see "I'd like someone to make this" and a response of "these other things exist" you say is unwarrented? You, too, could also not respond if the responses you see are not relevant to your desires.

And I'd be surprised if Daz has made anything suggested here solely because it was suggested here. It is far more likely PAs might look in here sometimes to get a feel for what people want.

I don't think that a militant attitude towards others will get positive attention from any PAs who may have considered making such an update to products either....
