DAZ Studio Keeps Crashing

Spacewarper7Spacewarper7 Posts: 190

Starting a couple of hours ago I can't seem to keep DAZ Studio working. No matter what files I start with, as soon as I start doing something like insert a new prop into a scene, it promptly crashes. It was working fine until very recently; an occasional crash but only after hours of work beforehand. But now I can't cqn't anything doine at all and I have no idea what is going on. Is anyone else havong this problem? Is there some updating going on that somehow interferes with my using DAZ studio? I was looking forward to another relqxing evening just generating rendewrs and now after numerous failuresmy evening is completelyl ruined. I can deal with it provided the poroiblem is temporary or can be easily fixed, but right now I have no idea what is going on..Even files I have interacted with numerous times before jwon't let me edit them at all anymore. Please help. Going seriously bonkers here right now. crying

Oh yes and I have tried just starting from scratch but after only a couple of insertions of favorite scenes and props, CRASH! Down it goes. So it's not any of my files at fault. Can't get any work done at all.

Any operating system or driver updates? Have you tried doing a system restart? Which version of DS (ehlp>About Daz Studio)?

No updates of any kind in several days; including no new DAZ products. Did a system restart once it was obvioius DAZ kept crashing, but no good. Version of DAZ is 4.24.

Am finally noticing that my crash problems seem to be the result of the use of one single product; NFXStudios Farmhouse

    https://www.daz3d.com/nfxstudios-farmhouse

Took me a long time to realize this must be the cause because i use it a lot, and happened to be in every scene I tried to open because I need it for consistency's sake for a new scene I am trying to create. Never had any trouble with it before, but I sure seem to having a lot of trouble with it now. It just never occurred to me that a single product I have been using for years without a problem couldf be causing the difficulty now, but that seems to be the case. Still have no idea why, but so far I do seem to be able to progress if I do not try to use that one product. At least, so far, only tried a few steps (still more than I've been able to do since the trouble started) in order to reply to your post. So may still have troubles. Sorry it took so long for dopey me to notice this. Even the alll-new scenes included it because it is the product I needed to use for my planned scene. Guess I'll just have to work on something else for a while until someone can figure out why this is happening. Thanks.

Yeahm uaing using NFX-Stuiod farmhouse was defintely the issue. DAZ still craqshes when I try to use it or upload anything already using it. No idea why, or if it is just me for some reason. Either way, is there something that can be done about it?

Ah, I can see I reported an issue with it under 3delight in 2015 - are you using a version of DS with 3Delight (i.e. not 4.24.0.4) and using that to render? This thread is more recent and also seems to say the issue is only with 3Delight https://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/483231/does-nfxstudios-farmhouse-still-make-daz-crash . I just tried a quick test in 4.24 using iray and there wasn't an immediate crash, but I didn't let it run for long and may not have been showing the problem light-switch (though I don't think the crash required that to be visible).

I have not loaded the new .4 version yet (been seeing it offered though), and I use 3-Deklight exclusively becuae (at least for me) Iray renders take hours rather than mere minutes and I never saw the point in such long wait times. Maybe I tried using Iray wrong but yeah I use 3deligjht exclusively because it works and is fast so I can do dozens of renders each day. Until yesterday though I never had trouble with it though I have't tried using it it nearly a year now so who knows whjen the problem actually cropped up? I do hope the problem can be fixed thoiugh as it was one of my favorite scene settings and as is now it is quite useless to me. I won't grunt about the cost though as I don't even remember what it cost; just that I got it the very day it came out. But I managed to find a good substitute in the meantime. I just have to establish qa story reason why the house my characters live in is now differewnt. :-) Glad to know (I guess) that it wasn't just because of some stupid mistake *I* made. This time.

Oh, and apparent;y asecond program I frequently use also causdes a crash... which helped make it a lot harder to figure out wtf was going on in a short time. Any problems reported with this one?

And Lord only knows which other products are suddenly acting up on me now.

I am not aware of an issue with the Worldbsae product, but I don't own it to test. The Farmhouse has had an issue for a long time, though, so I don't know why it would be showing only now. If they are correct in the thread I linked that the issue is a particular part of the mesh you could delete that using the Geometry Editor (replace it with a switch cut out to a new prop from elesewheer in the model, or from another building kit - a replacement switch should be asily dropped in as a minor plot element, if you don't just ignore it)

Uhhhhhh... hehe. Wut? Sorry, but I have no idea what you are talking about regarding how to make the farmhouse work again. Oh wait, now I see the link you must be referring to; in your previous reply to me. Oops. Dopey me goofs again. Sorry. I am unfamiliar wiuth Geometry Editor, but I'll try to fathom your instruction when I have some free time to do so and see what happens.

But yeah I haven't used the farmhouse prop in like a year or so but had no significant problems when I *was* using it prior to that. The worldbase prodyct problem *must* be a more recent one though, as I used that without trouble just a month or so ago. But now it crahses daz just as quickly as Farmhouse does. Just a bad coincidence I guess I tried using both yesterday trying to set up a scene. At least so far nothing else is causing DAZ to crash, so hopefully that's as far as the problem goes. Anyway, thank you for the advice. :-)
