Mysterious Ice Crystals - parenting issue [solved]

I hope someone can help me with this one as I'm wondering what I'm missing/doing wrong or if there's some limitation to the product I'm not aware of.

I'm using Mysterious Ice Crystals, and I'm trying to parent it to a specifc piece of an outfit on a figure. I have positioned them in the way I want them and:

  • When I do drag & drop them to the parent them to the piece of the outfit, they get moved to them bottom of the figure; after repositioning them in the right spot while parented, they don't move when the figure is posed.
  • When I tick "parent in place" option and drag them, they don't move from the spot, but they also don't move as the figure is reposed.
  • When they are parented to the figure (without "parent in place"), they don't move the spot either.
  • When I just move the character around in the default pose, the crystals do move with it, remaining correctly parented.

Basically, I can't seem to be able to have them be posed correctly when they are parented. Edited to add: I tried different poses from different sets, to make sure it's not a pose issue.

I'm trying to avoid having to repose those crystals every time I change the pose in the future as this character is going to be reused (vs. one time off render).

To be honest, I'm not sure what's going on here, so any suggestions are welcome.

If you just parented the crystal to the root node of the outfit, it wouldn't work. Instead, you need to parent the crystal object to a certain Bone of the outfit... depending on where you position the cyrstal.

Or, you can bind the cyrstal to a Rigid Follow Node you defined on the outfit by using Geometry Editor.

I'll play around it and try to find the right bones then. Thank you. I appreciate you took time to respond.

That, solution, sadly is out of my reach. The only thing I know about Geometry Editor is that it exist. I might have, I think, deleted some geometry once, years, ago.

Thanks, crosswind, this worked. Some poses seem to need adjustments, but at least the crystals are roughly where they're supposed to be. :)

And thanks, Leana, I'll definitely check it out to learn something new!

Mada has another video tutorial about rigid follow nodes (used for buttons), not linked in the discussion, in case you want another go at the subect:
