I know Luxus is said to be "future proofed" but is there support for the new Luxcore engine in Luxrender 1.5?
http://www.luxrender.net/wiki/LuxCore
That's a good Q. apparently I have 1.3.1 LuxRender installed, and I did get 1.4RC2 and just never installed it. And I don't remember why, that was many cups of coffee ago.
I now have 1.3.1 x64 NoOpenCL installed, 1.4 (not installed), 1.4RC2 (not installed), and 1.5 (not installed). It would be nothing for me to 'Roll Back' if it didn't work. I just need to remember how to ship a scene from Studio threw Luxus to LuxRender.
Is there a simple Luxus Studio test scene somewhere, that I don't need to sit here fussing with lights and surface settings?
This was all so long ago, lol.
If it's shaders your asking about, it may be no deferent then the 3DL ones in studio that have not been keeping up with all the goodies in newer 3DL versions. As long as the older stuff is still supported, it still works.
P.S.
I do not have the x32 or the OpenCL or any non-windows installers for LuxRender (My computer didn't like OpenCL and I'm running 64bit Windows7).
No, I'm really asking about the CPU accelerated modes in LuxCore. Reality 4.1.1 has been updated to take advantage but I'd like to have an alternative - especially as Reality doesn't always produce the results for me. I can't take advantage of OpenCL until Apple get their act together and update the drivers. Nor, being an iMac user, can I run a super-fast NVidia GPU to work with Iray.
I think that Luxus for Carrara supports 1.5 but I don't know if there's a difference.

Yea, I don't have Carrara. As for CPU accelerated modes, probably not, unless that is put in a surface shader by you explicitly, or is exclusively controlled by the LuxRender window outside of Studio. It's a good Q.
I don't know if DG still uses Luxus or not, I think MN-150374 is still very active (I keep being shown really cool renders by MN-150374). Mac or win, I don't know.
I'm going to have to watch all them vids again. I remember Bluebird right clicking (for a menu) the surface tab, to add a Luxus light surface to the UberAreaLights. Tho I'm not seeing that menu now, this is not good, lol. I did it once in Studio 4.6 and that did work back then before Studio 4.8. I'll try an reinstall of luxus threw DIM.
I had this Luxus thing installed and working a very long time ago, Then life grabbed me by the scruff of my neck and dragged me elsewhere (This would have made Iray so much les painful to learn).
(EDIT) I don't recall ever removing it for any reason, this must have happened from an update to Studio. oops (blushing face).
(EDIT2 err 3) I have no idea where the Right-click add surface type went (not there Zarcon), tho I think I got it sent to LuxRender. And no, that Luxus thing in DIM did not add anything for Luxus that I can find. I can not find surfaces or lights for Luxus anywhere in the Content Library.
it's a difrent menu for adding light surfaces. Much better now. I still need to figure out how to convert the spotlights.
We are now rendering in Studio, this is new? I don't think my test chamber has ever looked so, well, off. I think I see something there, lol.
I have a Question. How do I tell studio or Luxus where LuxRender is? Or is that only an option when I first fire that thing up, and I can never change the path to LuxRender again?
Never mind, Found it under "Advanced" in Studio.
I have LuxRender 1.3 NoOpenCL x64 in the default install path, and am running a render now with LuxRender 1.5 NoOpenCL x64 in a separate install path. So far no problems, tho the view in the render window is strikingly deferent on the first pass (less like static, more 'Pointillism' art in appearance and the blobs get smaller as it runs).
Thanks Marble. I've found out that LuxRender has no issues having different versions installed into different paths (I simply added "15" at the end of the new install path of 1.5 during that set of install option windows). I'm not sure yet if 1.5 is faster yet, tho it dose appear to work fine with Luxus in any case so far.
If you have the installer thing for your working version of LuxRender on backup, it should be easy to switch back if 1.5 is of no good to you. Just uninstall it, and put the old one back in (or simply switch back if you have them both installed in different paths).
So, I need to watch the vids again, and figure out how to convert a spotlight into a luxus light. not to say every single surface in my test chamber, lol.
different, deferent, This spell check is quite, grrr. lol.
I think what I'm getting at is that Luxrender now has two variants in 1.5: the Luxrender "classic" engine and the new LuxCore engine. Luxus might work with the "classic" engine but not the LuxCore variety. I'd just like confirmation of this because, as you say, it can be difficult to tell just from speed alone. I doubt whether the version of Luxus that we have has any selection options for LuxCore.
It works fine with the 'classic'...been running it with the last release candidate and the official 1.5 release.
Short of adding all the LuxCore items in the 'extras' section, no, it doesn't have the native ability to do it.
Maybe Spheric will come in and let us know if there will be an update.
