Daz Studio is not in your list over apps, if it installed with DIM.

When you have found the Daz Studio exe files, right-click and select Send to > Desktop (create shortcut) then you will get an icon.

Thanks, Felis - that has sorted me out!

Is there any reason why it doesn't show up in the list of Apps when installed via DIM? Seems a bit odd when everything else I install on my PC shows up.

Are we talking about the apps list in the start menu? Mine shows up there on Windows 11. I've got the General Release, Beta and 2025 Alpha all in my DAZ folder.

DIM will, by default, add applciations to the Windows logo/Start button application list.

I was not talking about the Start list. I have them in my Start list.

I was talking if you go into Applications you will not find Daz Studio if installed with DIM.

    Yes, that is correct

But why is that the case? Isn't this a failing in the way the DIM installation works? It's not unreasonable, after all, to expect to see installed programs in the Windows Start and Applications listings?

If you could uninstall aplication that DIM installed through the OS how would it know they were uninstalled? Unless it ceased to track applications at all, which would put install and uninstall in different places for applications (and plug-ins?) but not content. Having DIM, which itsdelf can be managed through the OS list, handle its own installations avoids the confusion and conflict that would arise if it tried to work with the OS application list.

Hmn, OK, but at risk of labouring the point, everything else I install except for DAZ plays nicely with the Start menu and Apps list and shows up there. If I install a new game via Steam, for example, it appears as part of a sub-listing under the Steam folder in the Start menu and as a separate entry in the Apps list. It would be more convenient for users (this user) if DAZ Studio behaved in the same way is all I'm saying...

I was talking about Add/Remove Programmes as was. The Start Menu will, by default, show Daz Studio and other applications under D>Daz 3D; if not you need to check the setting I showed in an earlier screenshot.

DAZ Studio 4.24 won't install for me with DIM. It downloads and immediately goes into the Installed tab without installing. No launch icon and Size is -1. Uninstalling just freezes DIM. Every time I start DIM, it asks if I want to install DAZ Studio 4.24, but just does the same thing over and over. I've never had any problem updating DAZ Studio before. What is going on?

I fixed my issue, but I'm apparently blocked from stating how. I keep getting a message that I'm blocked by daz3d.com for some security garbage.

Going to try and say it in cryptic manner. I had two processes that were still aronud somehow. One can be stopped in process manager. The other I had to run resmon and go to the CPU tab. There's a search for handles. Type in DAZ and stop those ones too. Then remove your DAZ folder in program files.

Did you post have anything that locked like HTML? There are  guards against code injection that can sometimes go overboard.

Usually it works just to delete the manifest file for the DS installation, and perhaps clear out the core files from the application folder, then reinstall.

Did you accept the UAC prompt (do you want .... to make chnages on this system) for DIM Helper?

No, nothing that even remotely looked like HTML. I tried a bunch of different things and it still blocked me until I just rewrote it from scratch.

As to the UAC prompt, yes, I accepted it. Anyhow, like I said, I think I had some DAZ Studio process that hadn't shut down properly and was still running so the install only installed half the files.

There's just no reason to install the new version. It adds nothing, it doesn't fix any bugs, it just removes a feature, 3DL, so why would you even want to install it? At least wait for an update that adds something new or fixes some bugs.

It does in fact have bugfixes http://docs.daz3d.com/doku.php/public/software/dazstudio/4/change_log

Richard, what are these bug fixes you speak of? Below are the only "bug fixes" I found and they aren't even listed for the release channel, they are just listed for the beta. Assuming these are the same bug fixes you are speaking of these aren't really bug fixes. They don't affect Windows users of Daz Studio at all.

Fixed a regression in the script that backs the “Create Poser Companion Files…” action

This restores the correct functionality of the script, ensuring that users can generate Poser Companion Files (PCFs) — which enable Daz Studio content to be used in Poser — without errors. This update ensures compatibility and smooth interoperability between Daz Studio and Poser despite internal UI text changes

Extended DzApp public API; added Mac_26_0 enumerated value

indicates an update to support macOS version 26.0, which likely corresponds to a future version of the macOS operating system. This addition allows developers using the Daz Studio SDK to programmatically identify and handle this specific macOS version within their scripts or plugins, ensuring compatibility and proper functionality on newer macOS releases. The change is part of ongoing updates to the public API to keep pace with evolving operating system versions and maintain robustness across platforms

    Updated public API documentation; DzApp

this means that the official documentation for the DzApp class in Daz Studio's software development kit (SDK) has been revised and improved. This includes clarifying existing functions, adding descriptions for new features (such as the Mac_26_0 enum or displayName property), and ensuring developers have accurate information when creating scripts or plugins. It helps ensure compatibility, especially after changes like the title case display update, by documenting how the application interface and scripting system now behave.

So, there are no bug fixes for Windows Daz users, Just removal of 3Delight. Updating does nothing for Windows users but remove functionality.

I would love to see some FIlament bug fixes before DS 4.24.x.x is retired. Not holding my breath on that though.

The first affects Windows systems. Not every fix will be relevant to every user, but they are there regardless.

You can't render with 3DL in DS 4.24.0.4, as the 3DL render engine is not included anymore. Only DS versions up to 4.24.0.3 include it.

It is posible to copy the 3Delight files across from a DS 4.24.0.3 instalaltion so that you have it in DS 4.24.0.4 - a list of the files required was given in a previous post.

  • LAMH (sku 15548) is now 1.6. It says compatible with Studio 4.24, but developed for 4.5. That is a strange prediction. Is something in it not going to work until some far-future release? Thanks.

Version numbers are not decimals, 4.5 ("minor version 5 of DS4") is not newer than 4.24 ("minor version 24 of DS4")

4.5 was the version which introduced .duf format, it was released many years ago, even before Iray was added in DS.

Which is clearer if you see the full version string - 4.24.0.4 (the fourth build of the initial revision of the 24th minor version of the fourth major version of Daz Studio).
