Good to know - thanks :)
I have the update ffor DAZ Studio in DIM and I am not installing it at this tim. I also have a number of updates to other progams such as Measure Metrics, Alembic for DAZ Studio, Decimator, Dynnamic Control for DAZ Studio, Mimic Live and the various Premier plugins. If I install the updates for these programs will they continue to work in the earlier version of DS?
...so what is going to happen to old pre-Iray content that just has 3DL shaders? Is it going to be removed from the store and any content that was purchased but hasn't been downloaded/installed removed from the Install Manager?
I don't know what if any content will be removed from the store. But any purchased content should remain in your product library and therefore be available in DIM
...thanks as I'll need access to it all for when I finally update my system.
I'm hoping this incentivises Daz3D to fine tune Iray, as it's the only actual render engine left(Filament is technically just a draw style preview).
Daz3D needs to step up and do what they can to make Iray a better experience for the people who suddenly find themselves relying on it.
As far as I understand it (I could be wrong) for some reasons, Daz is recompiling all their plugins for the last available version of Daz Studio and they won't work with older versions.
Thanks. I realize that DAZ recompiled the plugins for the latest version; butwhat I don't know is wheter or not they are backwards compatable.
For Daz developed/maintained plugins, every time the change log indicates that the SDK version has changed (e.g., "Updated SDK version to 4.23.1.44; SDK min is 4.5.0.100", or "Increment application, plugin and SDK version for 4.24.0.x"), plugins that are compiled against the 'current' SDK version are incompatible with earlier versions - the 'current' SDK version that a plugin is compiled against is embedded in the plugin, and this version is discretely compared against whether it is greater than the SDK minimum, but less than or equal to the 'current' SDK version, for a given version of the application during the loading process.
If the embedded SDK version is not within the [minimum, 'current'] range, the plugin is not loaded.
An additional reality is, because the updated (but unpublished) SDK is still considered volatile (i.e., could change in ways that plugins compiled against it could lead to crashes if loaded in newer versions of the application), compatibility for these plugins really become limited to versions between where these change log entries appear - thus it becomes easier to state that the application and Daz developed/maintained plugins for a given version must be kept in lockstep.
Nothing will be removed from your product library or downloads.
Things which are really specific for 3DL, like pwShaders or 3DL light shaders, might be removed from the store, as they're not usable at all without 3DL render engine.
The rest of the 3DL products still work just as well with Iray as they did in previous versions of DS (automatic conversion is still there), so there's no reason to stop selling them.
It is my understanding that DAZ has sold products in the store that are texture add-ons for products that can’t be acquired anywhere. So it would stand to reason that DAZ might sell products for a renderer that can’t be used anywhere
Are these files (pre-Dec-31-2025) that need to be backed-up to keep a version of DAZ Studio that can be manually installed and used to render with 3Delight? Please review attached images.
It looks correct. You don't need to backup the four DazStudio 2025 files though (bottom 4 in first image).
Excellent. Thank you. May 2026 see your horn of plenty filled with the rainbow of jellybeans. I assume as a doctor of jellybeans you recommend the jellybean as a supplement to any New Years resolution.
People with older versions of DS don't necessarily stop buying content.
Now the question is how to manually install the 3Delight version of DAZ Studio such that it does not interfere with the later revisions of DAZ Studio 4. Is this a matter where it is simply better to install it on a computer that has DAZ Studio 2025-Alpha but does not have any version DAZ Studio 4?
If you have currently 4.24.0.3 (or earlier) installed, then you can download the updates BUT make sure the install after download option is unchecked. Once the updates have downloaded, you can hide them in DIM to avoid accidental installation at a later stage. You can also then make a backup of the update files.
Now would be an excellent opportunity for DAZ to offer an awesome promotion of conversion tools for example:
RSSY 3Delight and Iray to Filament ( https://www.daz3d.com/rssy-3delight-and-iray-to-filament )
RSSY 3Delight to Iray Converter ( https://www.daz3d.com/rssy-3delight-to-iray-converter )
OR maybe DAZ could purchase them from RSSY and offer them as a freebie and give a nice coupon to previous buyers (like me).
Based on your answer, it is seems best not to have pre and post 3Delight versions of DAZ Studio 4 on the same computer.
You could install the 4.24.0.4 General Release version and the 4.24.0.3 Public Build or vice versa on the same computer.
Thank you for clarifying that.
If in future you want to reinstal the older version, that you have backed up, place a copy of the packages in the DIM Downloads folder and start DIM with the Work Offline option, then you will be bale to install an older version from its packages.
Great thank you.
Of the plug-ins that you list, I only have Decimator for Daz Studio 4.24. I was not paying attention to what I was doing three days ago and unintentionally installed the non-3DL version of Daz Studio (4.24.0.4)!! I used my backup copy of the DS 4.24.0.3 BETA installer to manually install it. When I tested the new install, I noticed that Decimator was not present. I downloaded the currently available version of Decimator from my Product Library and installed it. It automatically appeared in DS 4.24.0.3 BETA and operated normally.

I also will mention Wowie's Awe Shading Kit which brings Physically plausible shading to 3delight (It used to be sold here and is now available at the "other store"). To see how far it takes Daz 3DL check out the works of Sven Dullah In this thread:

...and the follow up

Whatever happened to Wowie?
...good question, He did sell some content on Rendo back in 2011 His AweShader Kit is still in the store there.
WOW, has it been that long ago now?
He was in the forums until... March 2023. His shaders were freebies I think he abandoned the field here. Sven Dullah has not been seen here since Feb 2024.

As an aside, forum search seems not to work. It sent me to store page.
Sven gone too. I wonder if they are the Wonder Twins and are out saving the world now from bad renders??
