...ah thank you for the clarification, I thought that 5 or whatever it is called is going to be released Monday So I'm OK with the installer backup for 4,24.0.3 as well as the AweShader plugin.
I just Downloaded and installed registered D|S 2 & 3 on my Win 10
had to run in compatibility mode
Windows is stuck generating a report, will have to kill that
both work
yes, I know I didn't need to
just felt nostalgic
Maybe you need Windows 98
AH, OK, good to know. Thank you
Is this the right thread or should I start a new one? For those of us who don't use 3DL at all and never have, is there any way to remove the 3DL assets that are redundant with IRAY assets in my library? For me, they've always been a waste of disk space.
Also, has anyone run 4.25 (I presume it's 4.25) and found it working correctly? Any bumps in the road? When it shows up in DIM, I don't plan to download it until I hear it's good from any early adopters.
Thanks
These are the changes between the current release (4.24.03) and the next one (4.24.0.4)

You'll have to do it manually AFAIK and if you're using Smart Content, it'll create broken links for every 3DL related .duf file removed.
I'm not sure it's worth the hassle, considering .duf files related to 3DL will likely not be the main source of disk usage by any product, compared to the textures and the geometry. I checked with Gwennili for Victoria 7: the whole product once installed is using close to 1 GB of disk space, among that total, only 6.6 MB are taken by files related to 3DL Materials presets.
I would think removing 3DL is worth changing 4.24.03 to 4.25.00 and not 4.24.04. The Alpha should be called Daz 5.00 (or Daz 6.00 as it is sometimes called), not 4.anything. I work in software. Best practice for version numbers is removing a major feature is not a maintenance level change, which is what those number after the second DOT usually indicate.
...I have an 18 year old Xp notbook that still works which I have 1.8 on.
2.0 and 3.1 also work on Win 7.
Daz Studio, not Daz - and you missed a dot - 4.24.0.3 etc. While I have some sympathy with your point about the size of the change, there are no major changes to the core application - it is just the removal of one module - so a full minor version number chnage would also seem a bit much. daz had to go with one and chose this, perhaps because for many users 3Delight does not seem to be a major element.
As for the (currently alpha) next major version, it is Daz Studio 6 as a technical numbering but Daz Studio 2025 (or 2026) for presentation - see https://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/comment/9137741/#Comment_9137741 (I must admit to finding the longer FeatureSet number harder to parse than the smaller numbers in separated groups, but no dount it will become familiar).
Does this mean that I will no longer be able to dowload DS 3 from my library?
Given that DS3 is just 3DL - that has been my assumption. With luck Daz will leave it until the 31st.
It would be prudent to back it up, but I don't have any concrete information.
I am completely confused. So what is available to download from our product library is 424.04... and not 424.03 which 424.03 is the one WITH 3DL included? .. Does 424.04 have the 3DL engine?. I apologize if this is redundant but I would like to know. I downloaded something from DIM which appeared to overwrite what was in my downloads folder
There is a version of DS in DIM dated 12/22/25. Is that the new one? I put it in a storage folder and have not installed it.
Looks like it - the 4.24.0.3 is 744 MB; this one is 736 MB. I'm going to assume the missing 8 MB is the 3DL render engine and possible support files.
I was not able to install the 64 bit versions. The 32-bit versions installed and ran. Version 2 wanted me to enter a serial number that I couldn't find. The serial number for version 3 was there.
All right, then! Thanks.
I had the D|S3 advanced version with a pro serial, I bought it on sale for a dollar if I recall
its 64bit as well as a 32bit. version
D|S2 was just the free version but I actually got it with a book called Figures, Characters and Avatars
I got that book too. It had a lot to do with me joining the forums. I got into my first argument over how I had paid for Victoria 4 with the book but the DAZ store expected me to buy Victoria 4 again to get the upgrade to Victoria 4.2. Or something like that. The book also had a lot to do with the first time I got a post deleted because I recommended to somebody to not buy the book, on the grounds of it being a scam or racket. Or something like that. I'm typing this on a phone. I'll bet the auto correct has managed to sneak something crazy into this post.
Post is coherent, @NylonGirl, nothing crazy there.
I seem to have versions of DS2 & DS3, and I have no reason to install them (AFAIK) - Also, I don't especially remember when I first got them.
Well. It's gone now. Pour one out for 3DL. It was a tremendous workhorse.
Dec 29, 2029: 2 new DAZ Studio 4.24* releases. I hid the "4.24.0.4 Release" channel of DAZ Studio rather than download it in DIM and downloaded the "Public Beta 4.24.0.4" channel and installed it, then I confirrmed that DAZ Studio 4.24.0.3 still has 3DL & Scripted 3DL render engines and DAZ Studio Public Beta 4.24.0.4 has no 3DL or Scripted 3DL renders. I suppose I will need to again hide rather than download each new DAZ Studio "4.24*" release channel after each new version.
RIP 3DL.
Is there a good reason why I should downgrade my Studio 4.24.0.3 to 4.24.0.4?
I also forgot that I have the "check update" enabled in my application. Seeing that nag pop-up scared me.
I renamed my folders in preparation as I start DIM
they honored my ownership of Carrara 7 with it for upgrade to 8
3delight was my path to creation in 2007 and I'm very grateful I stumbled across DS after I found a free copy of Bryce in a magazine. I can't remember the exact timeline, I know Bryce came first and my first actual purchase in the store was DS 2.3.3.146 on Oct 22, 2007. It's been a ride, peeps!
My very first saved render!
You hid a release channel, not a version, and barring bugs there are unlikely to be any further updates to DS 4. However, if you ever need to reinstall the system or move to a new machine you will want the installers so hiding the update isn't really a way to keep 3Delight safe, just a way to avoid having to do a revert instalaltion of the old version.
