So I don't need to be worried about any of this since I only render in Iray and don't render in 3DL?
(I'm sorry if this question has been answered... I did read through the thread, but I'm not good at this end of tech in the best of times, and right now my brain is pudding from holiday-related things.)
Correct.
Thank you, dracorn. I was referring to a post I think I read either earlier this year or sometime last year where AM was considering a version of LAMH that can be used separately from Daz Studio - supposedly (I'm assuming) for when current LAMH plugins are no longer compatible with future Studio releases. Since many of AM's pre-dforce products, a lot of animal and creature morphs for various Genesis characters, and HiveWire3D products utilize LAMH for hair/ fur solely, a stand-alone product might be helpful for those who use these products and want to continue upgrading with Daz Studio.
Deeply appreciate the confirmation, clarity, and mercy on my fried braincells.
For people finding themselves having no alternative but embrace Iray, despite having not having the optimal hardware for it, I have two words for you: Scene Optimizer. It is one of the best utilities ever made for Daz Studio.
There are also a couple of Iray shader sets made with low end hardware in mind by JeffersonAF.

DIM can make backups http://docs.daz3d.com/doku.php/public/software/install_manager/change_log_1_4_0_94#1_4_0_86
They are code-signed, whjich should do that job.
I know, but this one was actually made before DIM could do that, and it does have some features DIM doesn't have which some might find useful.
The next versions of Daz Studio will not be able to run 3Delight as Daz3d's license expires:
You are going to back up the installer for the version of Daz Studio you do use and which does work with 3Delight by a few different methods as mentioned above. The easiest is to use 1) DIM to uninstall Daz Studio, go to DIM and have it redownload the installers (Daz Studio and any plugins that are specifically connected to that version), 2) save a copy of those installers, 3) reinstall Daz Studio (your settings remain as they are not deleted in the deinstall). Place that copy of the installers ideally in at least two places.
If you do nothing, everything will work as it always has until you get an update, forget and install the update that takes away the ability to render 3Delight, or have a computer crash where the only versions of Daz Studio available won't render 3Delight. if you back up the installer, you can just reinstall your version that can render 3Delight.
Your software doesn't stop working, it just becomes irreplaceable. With a backup, you have a replacement. If you have downloaded an update after than the end of the year, your software can not render your purchases using the 3Delight renderer. IRay will continue to work as always.
just rename the whole DAZ Studio folder in program files and create a new shortcut to the exe to keep using it before you install the next version
you can zip and archive the follder, plugins and all too
back it up on several drives if needed and hopefully they won't fail at sometime like mine did with media I will never get back
I have the DIM installer for 4.24 backed up on my external drive. I also have a copy of 4.10 and possibly 4.12 backed up, so I think I should be good to go. I have a new machine coming in January (the secondary drive is delayed). I haven't used 3 delight in some time but have some ideas that would look better in 3delight. I like to keep my options open.
I don't use Adobe, but rather use Affinity, GIMP, etc... Same thing with 4.22 vs 4.24.
With 4.24 was introduced the DAZ Premier features, etc... => How do you check that DAZ Premier features are not used when someone is not on a DAZ Premier subscription? Time to time connection is needed with DAZ. Just because of this, I could go 4.24, just this doesn't bother me that much; but it would also mean I'm accepting a subscription-based model for the software, and that's something I won't do.
So I wait till they can present something really new vs 4.22, and till that day I'm happy with 4.22. I test out the new software, but I have many other tools/toys to play with. (Not to mention what will happen with the old plugins at DAZ)
It would be able to use it, but it doesn't include the files.
The Premier tools need you to log into your account periodicaly, if you don't they stop working. DS will not log in unprompted, and no non-Premier features will be affected if you never log in.
I manually downloaded these files.
My current copy of Daz 4.24 is running on a SSD Drive (G). I have an old copy of DS 4.10 on a different SSD Drive (E). I would like to replace my 4.10 on the E Drive with the new 4.24 to keep as my 3DL version (I do have some old 3DL renders), while I can upgrade to the newest Daz Studio 2025 on my new SSD (G) drive.
Is there a list of instructions for manually installing Daz Studio? I am particularly concerned with changing the drive letters so it doesn't download to my C Drive. I want to keep Studio and my operating system drive separate. Also, what 4.10 files do I need to delete before manually installing 4.24 over it?
I recommend keeping a copy of Studio 4.10 if you have encrypted scripts that only work with that version or ealier. If I remember correctly, some scripts stopped working when Daz upgraded the scripting in Studio 4.15 or higher.
Thanks @y3kman. How do I copy 4.10 when I don't have the original installers? Can you point met to instructions?
...actually GenX and XTransfer add morph channels and as they likely will not be supported in Daz "whatever". Not sure that the controls will transfer over to the new version since those plugins will not be supported by the new SDK (particularly GenX as the creator passed on a while back and there was never an update for G8).
The only way I am able to use the GenX morphs with G8 is through XTransfer. Sadly the latter was not updated to G9, most likely because of the return to the "unisex" mesh base This is also likely the reason we have not seen a Skin Builder 9 either.
Moving to a totally new SDK tends to break everything until PAs update plugins and scripts to function with it.
I've made backup copies of the 4.24 release downloads. I've also installed the 4.24 beta in Daz Install Manager, then turned off the Public Build (usually that's the beta) channel again. (DIM > Gear Icon > Advanced Settings > Downloads tab > Release Channel Tags > Public Build: turn public build on, install, turn it off again). I think I shouldn't see updates for 4.24b with the release channel off, and thus am not likely to accidentally overwrite this version of 4.24b ... as long as I don't turn the Public Build release channel back on because I want to try out v6 before release. So I guess I'm leaving it off.
Too bad, but I don't want to risk rendering GenX2, LAMH, and other such utilities difficult or impossible to use, reinstall, or recover. Not until they're far in my rearview mirror. They're not now, and won't be for probably at least 2 years, because I don't see how I can finish my Export 'Most Everything Practical project much faster than that.
Zev0 did comment on Xtransfer not being available for Genesis 9 and the reason was the eyes and mouth being a different geometry:

There are 3delight to Iray converters here in the store.
Whoa! I sparked quite the discussion here.
Thank you everyone for your input so far. From what I understand reading all this is all the products will remain in store and it's more an issue if you need to render in 3Delight and in that case, you need to back up the old studio plus maybe some plugins and there was a filter provided to help narrow the search.
I'll leave this disucssion open as I think others still have more questions but I just wanted to thank everyone for the responses so far. And wanted to wish you all a Merry Christmas as well, take care!
Here's an idea. How about updating one of the Alphas with an auto script that detects 3Delight materials and converts them to iRAY or another supported engine in DS? You wouldn't have so many frustrated and concerned end users esp those that want to continue to move forward with DS and not keep two copies of the program on their hard drives. Just a suggestion!
I am not sure what you mean by morph channels, I thought that was a Poser only thing. Both Gen X and XTransfer create dsf files for the morphs and these are already supported in DS 2025. I have used both characters with GenX and XTransfer morphs in 2025 and they work just fine. There are a number of scripts and plug-ins I am concerned about in DS 2025, however GenX and XTransfer are not one of those.

...apologies, I meant morph sliders. Normally that sort of thing would not work under a new SDK until the plugin/script was updated.
3DL materials are already converted automatically to Iray when you render. That's been there since Iray has been introduced, and is still there in DS2025, which doesn't have 3DL render engine.
I ran this filter (thank you!) and got the following packages. [See Attached]
Backed up all the zips, but can someone who's less sleepy than me confirm I've got everything I need for a working backup copy of Daz Studio + 3Delight? Do I need the genesis starter kits as well? (i.e. do they ship with 3Delight content that will be stripped out in future versions and/or wouldn't be backwards compatible later?)
I don't think the Genesis Starter kits will be updated, but save a backup just in case. You don't have to download them if they do get updated, you can hide them in DIM.
