If with "installation" you are talking of Daz Studio, it will be replaced if you install a new - not DS 6, that is a seperate install.
If you are refering to your content, that remains unchanged.
I routinely make a backup copy of all my DAZ Originals.
That should cover me.
IF this is only 3DL related plugins, then fine for me as I don't use any AFAIK (do feel disappointed that so many who do use 3DL - and still make some great renders with it - aren't getting better instructions and DL links so they can make sure their app keeps functioning)
When 2025 come along - including plugins which won't get a 2025-conversion (like meshgrabber etc)? - then hopefully either 2025 becomes a new DIM install to co-exist alongside 2024 and/or its backup and download is handled more smoothly than this as it seems a lot of plugins everyone uses are going to get nuked
Full LaMH can export to OBJ, though of course that is data-heavy.
DS6 will co-exist with DS4, it already does.
Better to use the filter DoctorJelybean provided for DIM - the stand-alone installers can be problematic if mixed with DIM, and OS updates can break them (at least to an extent it already has - with the oldest installers we had to cancel the search for target folders or the installer would lock up until the system was restarted; the current installers don't yet have issues but there is no guarantee they won't in future. With DIM the installer part gets updated independently of the content package).
So far only the Private Build has been updated, acording to the change log. If you have/had DIM set to delete files on instalaltion you may not have the packages right now, similarly if you used the stand-alone installers (see my previous post on why those are risky). If you used DIM and it deleted the packages, uninstal the application and plug-ins (you can use Doctorjellybean's filter for that) and they will appear for download (if not, try enabling the option to show hidden) and you can redownload them for back up. The Public and General Reelase Builds will be updated this year, so don't wait.
Yes, though it would be prudent to grab the Daz plug-ins (those get updated with every build). PA plug-ins get compiled against the basic 4.5 SDK, possibly using QObject or the like to access new features, and so don't depend on a specific version of DS (which is why they don't need reinstaling after every update).
As far as I know the reduced production is "reproted" not a"announced", so treat with caution.
Right, asnd that I think is why there is no shader-compatible version of 3Delight that can be intefrated into DS 2025
That is not an issue of Iray as such changing but of the support for 50x0 cards depending on a version that apaprently could not be made compatible with DS 4 (if you look at the change logs there was an initial release which daz integrated into a DS 4 build, but it had to be pulled and the "fixes" came only in a package that couldn't be added to DS 4).
All release channels must be updated by the end of the year, since Daz will no longer have the right to distribute 3Delight. You need to back up the isntallers for any release channel that you use.
Daz is helping out b6yb making sure people are aware that they need to back up their installers - which they have been doing for some time. There is nothing else they can do.
for clarification, as I'm confused again. For instance, I have a ton of older products that are 3Delight based. I use Sickleyields 3Delight to Iray converter on these all the time. Will that combination continue to work? Will those 3Delight products remain in my account and able to be used? I haven't rendered with 3Delight pretty much since Iray was introduced.
Content is not affected, plug-ins from PAs are not affected as they are not compiled against a specufuc build of DS. You need the application and the Daz plugins (the one that update with every new build) to be safe.
DS4 and its plug-ins in gernala re not going away, daz has been clear that it will remain available so that people have access to the tools that can't/won't be updated.
I still use 3Delight toon-shading for LAMH animal renders, so I likely won't be upgrading past my current installation.
I remember reading an old forum thread where AM announced a stand-alone LAMH program. Am I mis-remembering this? If not, are there still plans for a stand-alone LAMH release?
DS 4 in general is not going anywhere, it's just 3Delight that is at issue.
As long as that includes the application and the Daz plug-ins that get updated in lockstep with the application. But see my comment above about stand-alone installers, rather than DIM packages.
If you use the version of DS 4 that has 3delight (and I would imaging the converter will work without it, but I'm not certain). 3Delight content is not going away in general, just the actual render engine itself.
I guess it's possible for an individual to keep an old version of DS that supports 'whatever' features, but at some point Operating systems or graphic cards/drivers might no longer support the older code, and that's the end, unless you can source older components ( or some really clever person builds an emulator ).
I can download the STUDIO directly from the Product Library, right? Do I need to download the items circled in red?

You should download the actual application installers as well.
If you're on a PC, you also need either the DAZStudio_4.24.0.3_Win32.exe file or the DAZStudio_4.24.0.3_Win64.exe file (most people use the 64 bit installer). That's the actual program itself. If you're on a MAC, it's the DAZStudio_4.24.0.3_Mac32.zip or DAZStudio_4.24.0.3_Mac64.zip file.
Just to let someone at DAZ know, Microsoft Edge thinks that these files are suspect. I know they are not and I have told Microsoft they are fine, but it would probably be helpful if DAZ told Microsoft they are fine.
I'm using 4.22 (The whole need connection to the server with 4.24 was a no thank you for me.). Will I be able to download and use DAZ 2025 and 4.22 on different hard drives with the same PC?
I have a copy of Daz 4.10 on a different drive on my PC, so yes that works. It also allows me to run both at the same time.
Here's a free Windows app for easy management (save, restore) of DAZ Studio installer files:
https://3dcontentmanagers.com/software/inst-backup-ds
Just extract into a folder, and run the .exe.
Tutorial is not quite finished yet, but it currently shows how to import current files from the DIM Downloads folder, as well as how to import saved files.
It's currently registering the files I get in DIM, can see that DrJellyBean's list contains some more files, will have to look into this when I get my render PC up running again (system disk died yesterday) and add these as well. You can add them manually yourself by editing the "files_pub.txt" and "files_gen.txt" in the Settings folder, if you want.
I believe it can also be used for managfing files for DS5 (6?), haven't tested that yet, but you'll need to create a separate installation for that.
What "need connection to the server"? DS 4.24 works perfectly fine without going online.
DS2025 and DS4 install in different locations, like DS4 general release and beta. You can have both installed on the same PC without any problem, be it on the same drive or on different drives.
Is this what you are talking about?

So RSL will still be automatically converted to MDL, which should make old content render fine in Iray. Is that right? Even if it doesn't, loading the content and applying the MDL shaders should continue to work correctly.
I don't know what agreement Daz has with Nvidia, but I do wish Daz could incorporate some other rendering software options too. Iray is nice, but only if you have an Nvidia card. It doesn't sound like most people are going to be able to afford good rendering PCs for very much longer either, at least for a while. I know more options would make things more complicated, though, so maybe it's not so feasible.
Thanks Y3kman and DoctorJellybean. That wa svery helpful.
