l would like to know if Daz studio 4.23 or later versions works with NVIDIA 50 series graphics card and I need to know as soon as possible. The coming shortage on pc parts due to gen Ai, the news that Nvidia will make about 40% less graphics cards makes me worried as hell, so I want to buy one to use incase my current graphics card 3090 breaks down. And does anyone know if 50 series cards works w Linux ubuntu somehow, we got our 3090 to work with it.

nVidia compiled the version of Iray that supports 50x0 cards in a way that cannot be made compatible with DS 4 (other than by modifying it in a way that would break all existing plug-ins, and many scripts). Daz has made suitable chnages in Daz Studio 2025, as part of the update proces, and you can create your scenes in DS 4.x then send them over to DS 2025  for rendering (Mesh Grabber modifiers will need to be changed into morphs, unless you are a Premier Member with the Geometry Sculptor plug-in installed).

Aside from Iray all the other features that use the GPU will work with the 50x0 cards.

See https://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/727631/daz-studio-2025-6-25-2025-x-evergreen for more about DS 2025.

Daz Studio 4.xx will never work with Nvidia 5k cards due to the much older framework it is built on. If you obtain such a card you will need to use Daz Studio 2025 Alpha to render via GPU as that is built on a much newer framework.

The 50xx series runs like a dream on Ubuntu, with Blender. My setup is Ubuntu 22.04. But you do have to install the NVidia driver and select the MIT version when it asks you, and I believe that is the default. From experience, I can attest that the other choice, the proprietary driver, does not work and gdm won't even start.

Thank you so much for the replyheart. So Daz 2025 works perfectly with 50 series cards? where do I do I download that? is there a big difference - hard learning curve between daz 4.23 and Daz 2025? Will all my stuff work except meshgrabber?

So I save the scene in 4.23  and open in Daz 2025 alpha, incase I find it to difficult to use to make the scene, to render?

Thank you so much for the replyheart, I hope I can find a used G card under the 50 series, older, to buy, guessing they don't sell older cards, so I can just keep using the daz I know and love, incase my current gr card crashes.

Incase I only find a 50 series card - will it work on Linux ubuntu also - Daz 2025 I mean?

To that, I have to say that I do not know. We do have a DAZ Studio on Linux thread, though.

I wish you the best of luck in your search, it looks like it will be tough to find a bargain out there right now :(  I would love a newer card with more VRAM myself but not sure I can justify spending the crazy amounts right now so I will hope my 3080 keeps going for a long while yet!

Yes, most other tools do their stuff and leave regular content in the scene so they are not needed to render. If you are not seeing DS 2025 in DIM make sure that you have the Alpha build channel checked in the Download Filters list (there is a button to acess it at top-left of the Ready to Download tab).

So I save the scene in 4.23  and open in Daz 2025 alpha, incase I find it to difficult to use to make the scene, to render?

Yes. Obviosuly you need to make sure the content diectory settings match in order for both versions to find your files.

  • Thank for the repliesheart. One more question: does a Nvidia Geforce 40 series card work with Daz studio 4.23? And does it work with Linux, that card? Thanks in advance for repliessmiley. Hoping to get a order on the way before New years, after that it will be hard as hell to find one at all, and it will be crazy expensive.

I just had a machine put together with a 40 series card specifically for daz.

Every NVidia card that I have ever owned since the 10x0 series has worked perfectly on Linux. You just have to install the proprietary driver from NVidia. I've never benchmarked it, but they say that it is even faster on Linux/Blender than Windows.

  • Thank you all so much for the replies to this, I live for making my Daz 3D rendered classic Lara fanart, so this is extremely important to me, my mental health depends on me having a pc that work in Linux and w Daz so I can keep making the fanart that, while I work and share it, makes me feel like the luckiest person on this planet. So good for me. So Thanks from my heart. We decided to go w a 30 series card, as that's like half the price of what we found online, and it's not so much faster than 30 series, in the diagrams we found. So it's exactly the same card as we have now, 3090 w 24 GB memory, it's a used card at Tradera. We will build it into a pc in a room upstairs, I'm in our livingroom w our main pc, but the other we'll build into a pc in another room, so my boyfriend can play, I work pretty much 24/7 w my fanart so our pc is occupied all the time laugh. So he can then play in that room. And that pc has ok amount of RAM, not as much as the main pc, but ok. So if the worst happens and the ram breaks or the card we have a backup to use. And we will not be in the hands of sellers trying to strike gold in a 100% sellers market, it will, w 40 % less nvidia card made, and less ram as I understand it, as the ai industry need that so bad. The card should get here next week, so then we'll build it into our pc upstairs to test it, and when I know it works, as it used I mean, then I can breath easy. I'll write here if it workssmiley
