I rendered this in 3Delight with an HDR as a light source and wanted some critique on the render iteself not the image content. Thanks.

I've never used an HDR to light a scene except via the IBL Master product, but I would say the image is maybe a little overlit, without enough shadow/image complexity in the reflections.  The shadows being cast are too soft and indistinct for the quality of the light.  Sorry if this isn't the kind of comment you are looking for :-)

Okay. Has there been a change in the requirements and limits for uploading files? I have tried to attach an image, .jpg, 471k, ought to be no problem. But there is just a boldtype "Uploading…" message and nothing ever uploads.

    Anyone have any suggestions?

Nevermind. I think I've figured it out. Give me a moment...

No, that doesn't seem to be working either. The image is under 800 pixels wide, it's a plain .jpg, it's less than a MB in size. It doesn't upload, and there is no progress bar to show whether it's even trying to upload.

Like I say, have there been any changes in the last year and a half in the requirements and limitations for uploads to the forums?

Not that I'm aware of; I uploaded images last night and it seemed to work the same as always.

Just a quick upload of an old Fiends Forever crew shot, seems to work okay.

Still keeping myself occupied building personal reading copies of fanfics. I've not had anyone willing to let me build a project for posting in a couple of years, But with AIs stealing work, I can't blame authors for wanting complete control of where their work is posted. Even though .pdf isn't the easiest format to steal from, I cannot say it's impossible.

Current project is yet another Ptterfic. This one built off the "Wrong Boy Who Lived" trope. The viewpoint character is not canon't Harry Potter. It's his illegitimate and unacknowledged older brother.

Frontspiece of Volume 1 of fic 1.

Ah ha! It worked this time.

    Let's try this again.

Our young protagonist eventually goes to Hogwarts, and having been given the clue of strongly resembling a former Gobstones champion, started digging through back issues of the Prophet to see if he can get a hint of his father's identity. He knows his father was a wizard. But his grandmother Evans never told him who he was.

To no very great surprise on the part of the reader, he discovers that his father is probably Professor Snape.

In Harry's 3rd year his half-brother Monty Potter comes to Hogwarts. Harry manages to keep him out of trouble, but only by putting himself in the way.

In Monty's 2nd year, Harry is at Kings Cross watching that things remain under control.

Of course they don't. Harry nips in, has them send Hedwig off to Hogwarts to explain why they aren't on the train. They leave a note on the Ford Anglia for the Weasleys, and Harry bundles the kids onto the Knight Bus.

Which gets to Hogsmeade before the train does.

It's the year of the Basilisk, and there are petrifications. This time it's Harry you figures it out first. And is almost immediately attacked and petriffied, himself. Fortunately, he had just enough time to leave a message on the wall before it happens, and his friends are able to interpret it.

Once they know what they are dealing with, the Hogwarts staff take care of the matter.

Particularly Professor Charity Burbage and her goblin-crafted axe.

Is it still possible to render in 3delight?   I can't find it in 4.24, but I have 4.10 installation as well

I believe so - it isn't in DS 2025 (for the same reason that Iray support for 50x0 cards isn't in DS 4,x - no binary compatible version of the renderer with the required features) and so Daz will be ending  their license at the end of this year, meaning it will no longer be available in the DS downloads at all, but as far as I know that update has not yet taken place.

Is it listed in Help>About Installed Plug-ins?

I nam assuming that the older installed versions will still be able to use it?

Thanks, I will have to check when I have time.

Yes, but the installlers on Daz will not have it so you much back yours (application and plug-ins) up or you won't be able to reinstall.

Good-oh. I do keep the installers backed up.

This is still a pain though.

If they hadn't done that they would presumably have been paying a license fee to the 3Delight developers while not being able to suply 3Delight* to DS 2025+ users.

    * 3Delight still exists, but like RenderMan it no longer uses the RSL shaders that it originally did - and which form the basis for DS "3Delight" materials; the current 3Delight would work no better than Iray with 3Delight products from the store (indeed, worse without equivalent conversion tools).

Yeah, this is an engine that's been around for something like 20 years -- at least. That's ancient in software terms. And al the hardware paradigms have changed as well.

Is there anything else that *doesn't* use progressive rendering? Or that can turn it off.  3Dlight can take forever to render the whole image, but whatever segment it's done is properly *sharp*.Iray is *never* sharp. Or at least not on a Mac.

It's the summer before Harry's 5th year, and he's at his summer job, tending Professor Snape's lab..

The previous summer he'd recieved a paniced letter from Monty which had him enlisting his father's help. The result was a removal to the Burrow for the rest of the summer. This year, from what Monty has to say, there is a visit from Vernon's sister Madge pending.

Harry cannot believe anything other than that that isn't going to go well.
