Heeding Lyoness's call, I went and made a pretty picture starring her Shadow Kin. Very lovely extensive set. (The cute dragon is OSO Pixie Dragon.)
@SapphireBlue: What a lovely render!
yes
it is
oh so lovely. I'm glad you had fun!!
I was on the brink when that dropped. Usually, I would have purchased the boat right away cause it was so wellmade and I do love boats, but since it was coupled with these hideous poses, I stuffed it into the back of my WL so to speak, for when it would be extremely discounted. Should have read the signs better, like you did. Even a single cent is too much encouragement here.
Yeah, I can't look at their promos too, even though the products are excellent, and in the end, I always put something else in the cart.
would they be less confronting if man and woman instead of same sex?
because honestly I don't see anything else different to other pose sets
I am personally not interested in pose sets myself and they don't worry me at all
yes the characters look like they have had lots of work done, that I agree
No, it's not about the same sex couple, it's the general portrayal of women exclusively as the focus of a man's sexual attention. In the boat set, the poses are clearly not intended to portray a lesbian relationship but the male fantasy of one, where the same-sex attraction only exists and serves the male interest. It's a very common theme, unfortunately.
But even that put aside, it's the women in general in their promos. The lips and the b@@bs get bigger and bigger, the faces stupider and stupider, and there's never ever any other facial expression than what they probably think is sultry. It's disrespecting and objectifying. I would hate it if they portrayed men in the same objectifying way, say, as always horny and too stupid to think one straight thought. These are plastic pleasure dolls but they want to make believe they're real people.
Edit: Well, obviously not real real, but you get my drift ...
I don't want to jump on a bandwagon, but have to say I've been buying their hair despite the promo images, rather than because of them. And the clothing, I feel, does not remotely suit my less than curvy favourite character.
Linday are not the only ones. I did rather feel the 'IQ = Off' switch had been flicked with this P3Design promo:
Regards,
Richard.
I think the keyword here is "sex sells", and it's certainly a factor in the 3D stores also. Sex is a natural element in life, but as in any context, beauty and harmony is a question of balance between the elements. Too much or too little of something and things go awry.
Yep, had that feeling as well, didn't even look at the product thus. And you're absolutely right of course, it's not just Linday. Just with Linday, it hurts the most for me, because their stuff is so darn beautiful.
There's another promo problem cropping up for me now in a related area, don't quite know how to deal with this yet: Since the nudity rules have been softened, some vendors, like Aeon Soul, use nudity to an impractically high degree in their promos, for me at least. I do get that they use the opportunity to show just the single top or sash or whatever, and that makes perfect sense; and the pics are really not sexualized in any way. But I usually save some promos on my iPad for reference, and whenever my little nieces are here and we scroll around through my photo library together ... Well, I have basically stopped saving their promos, which is a shame really,
I'm also finding that I'm actually uncomfortable myself with the full nuddy promos, which I wouldn't have thought ever. But i can't help thinking that most of the characters have been created from real person's photos, and that makes me feel like, Oh, there's a close-up of your b@@b, and we haven't even been introduced yet ... I know this is really rather silly of me, but there you are.
We all understand, that sex sells, but this is not what it is, it's fetish. Schoolgirl uniforms, cheerleader, even librarians, it's plan porn. Even some male...uhm...outfits are like that. It's not sexy at all. It's a huge turn-off. The poses and expressions are going the same route. Most of them come straight out of a pornographic magazine. I have nothing against sex and things being sexy, but this is nothing like that.
Well it's all based on sex drive, one way or another. As for whether something is "sexy" or not, is probably a subjective thing, or a matter of how you define or perceive the word/concept. Many clothing products do actually have "sexy" in the product name or description.
-----------------
fetish
/ˈfɛtɪʃ/
noun: fetish; plural noun: fetishes
a form of sexual desire in which gratification is strongly linked to a particular object or activity or a part of the body other than the sexual organs.
----------------
Maybe a summarisation of the concerns would be:
It's OK that 'Sex sells', but fear some promos and products are turning into 'Sex that is sold', and would be more appropriate at a different site.
It is a difficult distinction to quantify & draw a line on where some images are OK and other images are not, but it feels as if the line between the two is drifting & not anchored.
Regards,
Richard
Once you get used to the general oversexualization everywhere, Lindsay’s style reads more like an "always covergirl" approach in their promos. It reflects the same exaggerated realism found in games like GTA and isn’t meant to be interpreted literally, It largely depends on what the viewer sees.
I genuinely appreciate the lighting, the angles, and the environmental work in their promos, everything comes together like a professional photoshoot built purely to showcase a 3D product..
What I find far less appealing are the “lingerie on mannequin number 4000” promos: flat studio lighting, minimal effort, and nothing more.
