Slightly off-topic? Monitors for 3D and decent colour.

We all need a decent screen to use to make our 3D images, and nowadays a lot of us have 4k UHD screens or above.  I have just had to replace my old 32 inch UHD monitor because it began to delaminate, which made the image patchy and the colour on the bottom third of the screen innacurate.  Since the main reason I originally chose that screen was its colour accuracy this was annoying.  Worse, the fault appeared two weeks after the three year on-site warranty ended. No more BenQ monitors for me, a monitor screen should not delaminate in normal use.

My new 32 inch monitor is a Dell UltraSharp 32 4K Thunderbolt Hub Monitor - U3225QE.  It is extremely good, a bargain even though it is a mid-priced monitor.  It has a 3000:1 static contrast ratio (this is not the dynamic contrast ratio which is what many spec sheets quote), and a delta e figure of less than 1.5.  The Delta e is a measure of the colour accuracy across the screen, and for serious colour work it is recommended to get a screen with a delta e of less than 3, less than 2 if you can afford it.  less than 1.5 is pretty unusual.  I am extremely impressed with the colour and contrast, and it also somehow manages to look sharper than my last monitor even though they are the same size and the same resolution (UHD 3840x2160).

The image is my screen setup, with the 32 inch monitor in the middle and two Dell 24 inch monitors flanking.  The photo was taken when I was still using the older 32 inch monitor but naturally it hardly looks different with the new monitor as it is the same size.

    I have an LG 27UD68-W I bought at Best Buy years ago. It rocks! It's a 4k professional monitor, it looks great, and it's held up fine. It hasn't seen heavy use in recent years because I do most of my work on my laptop and hook up the LG when I want to check color at the end.

    My daily user is a 23" Samsung SyncMaster PX2370Plus (Digital), manufactured in 2010. Am I pleased? I guess I would have to say so since it has been providing me near daily use for almost a quarter century!smiley  Maybe some day I should actually replace it.....

    I have a Dell 24 inch Ultrabright, I think it is called, very clear and sharp.

    I have been using it now for at least 20 years, every day.... perfect still.

    UltraSharp? I have the 2010 version of that (warranty replacement for a 2008) and it is holding up well.

    I have a brilliant ASUS 144Hz notebook screen, fantastic for gaming on the go, but it's very (very) cramped to do 3D work (and my day-job)

    (Very nearly) 12 months ago I was "offered" a bargain in the January sales and got one of these (for £311): https://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/benq-mobiuz-ex3210u-review

    It's been fantastic as the high-end, IPS, all-rounder that I wanted

    • Brilliant for home-office (dev/code environments and MS office) - connectivity, comms and screen space are fab
    • But I bought it for gaming and it's been really, really great - fast at 1ms with rich blacks and beautiful colour (games like Kingdom Come Deliverance II and Horizon Zero Dawn look outstanding) and the audio is surprisingly good.
    • And I got it for Daz/Photoshop; at which is has been excellent... Colour profile, grey-scale, screen space and connectivity all shining when it's in use

    The review/guide I linked has some excellent tips that I found further improve colour and greyscale display etc

    If you come across one in this year's sales, I'd say it's a definite buy.

    Setup: I also have a 24" basic Dell monitor (couldn't name the model) that serves as a decent second screen to display help files, or folder stacks and so on, while I use Daz/Photoshop etc. And my notebook serves as a great way to test images etc across two different 144hz monitors - to check brightness and colours as "some others might see them" (rather than just the one monitor's results) - the variations are often quite surprising, even though boith have been adjusted to attempt to synchronise their display "profiles".

    I have an older ProArt, which we got for photo editing and print. Gorgeous colour and pixels, non-shiney and very workable in a moderately bright room.
