Ok, remembered something from before where copying code and pasting didn't work due to it copying hidden code marks before/after the discount code itself, so skipped the first and last of the code and manually typed them in and it worked. It seems like they would have fixed that issue by now.
Why does it always have to be so complicated?
Why can't Daz bother to even explain how it works on the sale page?
Why do advertised offers fail almost every single day?
Why do need I ask these questions over and over?
Why are there never any answers?
Clear as mud! That's too much complexity for me right now. I'm going to wait and see how it goes.
I have no punches today, but I still got two choices on the advent calendar (though it took some juggling to make the free one actually show up as free). So maybe it doesn't rely on punches at all?
I made it easy on myself...renewed Premier, then I grabbed the last 6 DAZ+ releases I had missed before. I added the free items, 3 of them, and two outlet items. Came to $21 which gave me 8 tokens. Great start for sure. I'm holding on to my free bundle coupon until near the end of my membership to see if anything cool gets added. I have to assume something going to happen great considering xmas is right around the corner. Passed on the advent calendar deal today. Dont need the textures, and surely don't need another G8F character. OH - also grabbed Street of Prague for $1.49.
That's the gimmick! To always have punches, you'll basically need to anticipate spending $1.99 a day (since items are split $0.99 or $1.99). Some days could sometimes be less (eg if the Better Than Daz+ offer appeals and you're a Premier member, etc.) You don't need punches every day of the sale, but you'll need good luck (and patience) if you let it drop occasionally and Daz suddenly runs an unexpectedly strong offer at an odd time of month. Last year I experimented and the two strategies seemed to be: keep a daily punch quota no matter what (spendy, but most latitude), or don't worry about it at all until late in the sale (and be limited to those offers/selection, but enter with a bigger bank).
Agreed that a membership makes sense this month. I see there's a Better Than Daz+ offer which I assume is daily, and for Premier members it's $1.49 which plays nicely with the holiday punch card requirements. If someone wanted punches all month and wasn't selective about acquiring any of the buy-in items, the difference of buying a $1.99 item for 30 days and a $1.49 item for 30 days is already almost break-even for a month of Premier. Plus the two coupons, free character bundle, and any membership bonus offers (gift card deals, etc)
If you join today it'll probably end at some unexpected hour near January 1st. :P imo the membership clock has been too unpredictable to anticipate a specific renewal date/hour.
Oh, I see your later post that you renewed already. Yeah, I forgot it's double tokens day, nice.
If it's like last year, you get the advent calendar offers every day whether you buy anything or not. I seem to remember the offers switching to two buy offers (no freebie) if you didn't shop regularly enough, but I'm not sure.
If the Nice List offer is a daily thing, whether or not it's a freebie says it's based on punch count, so as a Daz+ member any future ones would stop being a freebie if you let your punches lapse (until you built up 2 punches again)
Not sure on the advent calendar freebies responding to a $0.99 purchase. It wouldn't surprise me if they're keyed to punches as well, i.e. spendy customers might get options that reinforce spendiness.
Similar in my case. My last actual purchase was on Friday, i have no punches, yet still got the freebie in the calendar.
I'm not going to buy just to get punches. It may be that the DAZ+ low cost items might give me the needed days, but otherwise not going to buy stuff just for that purpose.
I see that they added new text to the advent Calendar that wasn't there earlier:
"Better selection with more punches.
Always have a FREE option with one or more Punches"
So that pretty much spells it out in no uncertain terms, you do need a purchase every day if you want to get a freebie. And if you want a "good" freebie then you better have more than one Punch.
They really made this a lot more expensive than last year. I think I will sit this out until near the end of the month then, because its not worth it to me to spend $1.99 every single day on things I don't absolutely need and want. I've already been spending too much and I'm literally running out of drive space.
I had at least one punch, Monday December 1st 2025, at lleast DAZ said I did, so I got Marius HD-8K for Genesis 9 | Daz 3D free. Thanks, it's a good model & free.
BUT...how did I get that punch? I don't see a list of my total punches anywhere or what I bought or got free that got me that punch?
By buying XI Street of Prague | Daz 3D? By getting the Advent Calendar's Dec 1st Surfer Outfit and Surfboard for Teen Josie 8 | Daz 3D? Or the freebie Code 66 Christmas Freebie | Daz 3D?
That isn't what we were told, and I know that some people do not have a freebie so it isn't that they goofed and didn't add the restriuction (or at least, that was th case this morning).
It should mean you purchased yesterday - punches go by the previous three days, not the three days including today.
It's nice to start off the season with four freebies- Marius (thanks to the punchcard); the Code 66 freebie (being a Christmas freebie); Carina (thanks to the advent calendar); and the flamingo trees (a Daz+ freebie). Over sixty bucks for nothing. It makes my wallet feel a little better. :-)
There have definitely been multiple people saying they have no punches but they got the free option. Assuming that they're telling the truth, it could be a technical issue or something.
But the main thing I want to ask about is why you think this new text means that you will only get a "good" freebie if you have more than 1 punch? It is just saying that you need at least one to be eligible for the free Advent that day. I bought lots over the weekend and had 3 punches, my free option had a base price of about $15. I've seen people say they had only 1 punch and got offered something with a base price of almost $25. It also depends what you mean by "good" freebie. Daz has no way of knowing which thing on my wishlist would be the best for me.
Because of the "better selection with more Punches" bit. I'm taking that to mean if you have one purchase from the day before you will get a freebie, but if you have 2 or 3 punches the quality of the freebie selection is better. That could mean more likely to be from your wishlist, or higher SKU, or higher base dollar value, but the wording is there for a reason.
There is often wording in Daz ads that is completely wrong. I wouldn't jump to the conclusion the those words you highlighted have any more underlying meaning than others. Be careful about "speculating". That tends to get posts removed from the forum.
Hm. Well, the "nice list" apparently isn't an everyday thing.
The "Better than D+" isn't going to be new each day, either.
Having TODAY'S DEAL stamped across the picture of the thing they're trying to sell is annoying.
Vague and somewhat confusing enticements over the calendar... typical Daz.
But!
I got some lovely HDRI skies as my advent calendar freebie. (For anyone curious, base price $21, SKU 58703 -- paid base was $30, SKU 87904; I have two punches) Can never have too many options with those.
I'm pretty sure I'm going to cave and get today's deal. I don't specifically need more characters, but holy buckets, four with all those options for $3, surely they'll come in handy at some point...
Nice natural-looking poses in today's PA gift. I don't use guns in my story, but they're great for those who do, and I'm sure some part or another will prove a good base at some point. Or I'll send everyone off to an epic squirt gun fight. That might be fun to do up in January/February when the winter feels like it's never going to end...
They should work with crossbows in case you're using them.
An excellent point! So far my only ranged is a longbow (well, and magic, but that's different) but I'll have to keep it in mind if anybody shows up wanting to kick some butt with one.
That is not usually the way to use a crossbow.
With some tweaking, maybe? I'll admit that crossbow is a weapon I haven't paid any serious attention to; they're a little too mechanical for my taste. I'd have to look up reference images before I did anything.
A somewhat simple day today. 4 free items, I bought LY OtherKind: Shadow Kin HD for Genesis 9 | Daz 3D, not needed but just looks interesting, and somehow left the bell towers in my cart @ $1.58.not sure how I missed that one. Oh well, something not to be used I guess.
Depends on the x-bow. There's those (mostly fantasy) pistol-ish mini X-bows which would "work" with some of those poses. Of course there's always that thing with the bolt falling out when the X-bow is moved too hasty or harshly.
Same for me on Today's Deal. Don't need more characters - but 4 by a very good PA is super-tempting. And the nonhuman skins and shapes sealed it. There's drow/dark elf skins & characters for practically every generation, but none that fit my style. Until now.
On to the gun poses. I think it would be better if the Gift items were standalone, but free & at least as many poses as most paid sets, so I am happy. I think @Elor is onto something with the crossbow idea, but not full sized ones, which are usually held more like a rifle when firing. But hand crossbows (mini crossbows meant to be used one-handed) are used by the D&D version of Dark Elves* are another matter. Would scaling down a crossbow model be enough for a fantasy action render, or require more tweaking of the model to look good? I don't recall any hand crossbow models in the store but I wouldn't be surprised if there are freebies.
*I don't think Dark Elves from real-world myths use them.
It was the "kick some butt" that struck me as incongruous (though I do klnow it is a non-literal phrase). Though it is true theya re quite heavy, but the gun the poses are made for looks fairly heavy itself.
<snerk>
And suddenly I have a flashback to one of the Robin Hood movies (can't recall which, it's been decades) "Turn the other cheek, brother."
That's actually in Dragonheart
