How Do You Merge Cameras/Lights into Scene w/o Deleting Others?

I need to load cameras into a scene (I've also had this issue with most lights) without deleting the cameras that are already loaded. "Merge into scene" gives me the same results as loading by double clicking. This has been a perennial problem for me that I've always found a workaround for. Thankfully, InaneGlory (my favorite cameras) don't delete other cameras upon load. Please tell me what's the method?

    Try using the Ctrl key when activating a camera preset. This opens the "Camera Preset Load Options" dialog. You can select Replace Selected, Replace All, or Add New. You can also set preferences for future use.

    which is applied by holding down shift as your double-click - just be aware that this can get confused with range selection (click, shift-click to select a consecutive range of presets) so you want to start with nothing selected.
