macBookPro 17" 2011 2.66 GHz i7: 4 hours 21 minutes and 30.34 seconds
Thanks
I’m on an M1 Mac Studio running Sequoia 15.7.1 (not planning to update to Tahoe/26 anytime soon).
Trying to do a new install of Daz (never installed on this system).
In DIM I set all the paths (in both Basic Settings and Advanced Settings) to point to my external SSD (my internal drive is getting full):
/Volumes/ExternalSSD/Applications/Daz3d/
Almost everything I selected installed, except the DAZ Studio app itself "DAZ Studio 4.5+ (64-bit)", the PostgresSQL CMS, and the bridge extensions (which I assume depend on the app).
Can the app not be installed on an external drive? Are there any components that must be on the internal drive?
Install applications at standard path (/Applications/Daz 3D/xxxx But move then content ( which is the big part) ) to a different drive and configure DIM before installing to use that new destintion for content.
As you cannot remove the default content location before you have added a new one (need at least 1 ), first create a new content destinatiion to your remote drive, then remove the DIM standard destination setting the new one as default installation destination for content (aslo move Downloads and Thumbnails to other directories on the same or another external drive.
Thanks for the recommendations. I ended up resetting all paths to the defaults, which let me install the apps. I then set my content path back to the external drive, and moved the files in the Downloads folder from my internal drive to external for backup.
It’s weird because the assets install fine when the downloads, manifest, and content paths are all pointing to my external drive. But code packages (the apps and plug-ins) won’t work if the downloads path is on an external drive.
When trying to install an app with paths set to my external drive, the
~/Library/Application Support/DAZ 3D/InstallManager/Hlog.txtlogfile reports:[INFO] :: Open Package Failed - Error opening underlying device: Operation not permitted: /Volumes/ExternalSSD/Applications/Daz3D/Applications/Data/DAZ 3D/InstallManager/Downloads/IM00070891-02_DazToBlenderMac64Bit.zipWhich makes me think that the installer has different code for installing apps than assets, and that in the app installing code they neglected to deal with Apple’s “sandboxing” (there’s a whole thing where the
startAccessingSecurityScopedResourcefunction has to be called on “security scoped” file system URLs to be able to access them). Is there an explanation for what the “DAZ Productions, Inc.” background item does? It’s found in System Settings → General → “Login Items & Extensions”, under the “Allow in Background” heading.
Very few apps actually need such a background task handler, and I’m a little leary of apps that do.
I’m guessing they probably have it checking for updates (which should instead be covered by running the app or DIM). But it could also be scanning my data in general which brings up privacy concerns, especially if they are training AI with user data.
Is there an official statement on why Daz needs a background process and what it does?
Since Tahoe 26.1 is now available I'm thinking about doing the upgrade.
Any experiences or opionions on how DAZ Studio 4 and 6 alpha behave on Tahoe?
I recently upgrade to the Sequoia 15.7.2 operating system. Most of my purchased assets are now missing or unusable. They appear in the Lost and Found and are inaccessible. I tried a reinstall of the assets to no effect. Anyone have any suggestions to help?
If they are in Lost and Found they aren't missing, but their metadata is not being found. You can check theya re accessible either by loading them or by looking in the Content Library under Daz Studio Formats (or Poser formats, depending on the type of content). If the files are present but not correctly categorised (Lost and Found is a catch-all category) then it may be related to one of the postgreSQL issues discussed previously in this thread.
I think that is the DIM Install Helper, but I cannot be 100% sure.
i'm wondering if this is the correct terminal command to get rid of the NaN Problem in a pose Fial and correct it by changing that into a 0:
"*.duf" -exec sed -i '' 's/NaN/0/
first I'd type "find" Then I'd drag the folder containing such pose files into the terminal, then I would paste in "*.duf" -exec sed -i '' 's/NaN/0/, And then I would press "return."
Does that all seem correct? Should everything be corrected?
I'm asking this question because I bought a pose converter product that is supposed to convert genesis 8 pose files into Genesis 9 pose files. Instead, if it encounters a pose file with an NaN Situation in it, it causes DAZ Studio to crash. I'd like to correct the NaN Situation and be able to convert those files.
Can anyone please help me?
Does it say NaN in the file ( NaN is Javascriptish for Not a Number), so it could be anything except a number, like empty.
And remember that .duf files are usually zipped (edit with BBEdit is the easiest as it automatically unzip the file when you open it.
I would recommend opening the Pose file in BBEdit and check what the property says before trying to batch edit anything.
I'm using these converters:
https://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/605941/genesis-1-2-3-8-9-to-genesis-2-3-8-9-pose-converter-updated-2025-01-03/
They are not doing what the product you bought is doing (creating files with Genesis 9 version of Genesis 8 poses), but they are converting each pose on the fly.
A good point in their favor: I don't remember them crashing Daz Studio on my Mac.
@Totte: these are my own poses. I'm wondering if that terminal prompt that I used is correct to get rid of the NaN error. I have posted about this here:https://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/734591/released-bone-minion-batch-converter-for-genesis-8-poses-commercial#latest
I have posted two log files at that location also. Perhaps you could take a look at them and let me know what you think.
ChatGPT advised something like text edit.
I could post one of the pose files here. It's not stealing anyone else's work, because it's my own created pose file. At least I think this is perfectly OK. Here is a text version of one of those pose files.
And where can I get BBEdit by the way? Oops, sorry I was looking for it with the iPhone. I found it on the Macintosh at the Apple App Store.
@Elor: thank you very much for the link to those apps. So I'm guessing they are user created and are being distributed freely?
So, did I at least get the terminal command correct? Can anyone tell me that?
Could there be another reason why the Fial won't convert from a Genesis 8 pose File into a Genesis 9 pose file? And could it be something that could be easily corrected by a another terminal command?
If so, could someone please give me the terminal command to use?
Again, these files are my own homemade pose files, and they work fine in Genesis 8. I did scale one of the characters. ChatGPT told me that scaling often makes it difficult to convert the file. Some of the poses exceed the limits for turning or bending. ChatGPT also told me that that can cause the pose file to be difficult to convert.
I'm just trying to see if I can correct these and convert them into Genesis 9 pose files.
Can anyone help?
Is it legal for me to post a .DUF Pose file here, if it's my own homemade pose file? And will this forum accept the .DUF FIAL? If so, then I could do that and someone might examine it for me and be able to help me with this problem.
Is that attached file the Pose File?
In that case, no, there is no "NaN" in it, and none of the keys looks bad.
What I can think of is that there is a missing url ( now web, local bone locator ) that is referenced through an ERC in the target figure.
I don't know what that means. Is it easy to correct with a terminal command? There are a number of these files.
ERC mean there are like one slider effecting multiple different, in this case, bones, for the figure spplying the pose to. If the converted Pose does not have those, that might be a case for NaN appearing when DS tries to read the number of a non existing Property Controller.
So, where do you see tat NaN, in which property controller.
Well, I ran the terminal command that appears above on multiple files in folders and sub folders. If that terminal command is correct then the NaN Situation should've been corrected by changing that to 0s. But the files still will not convert and DAZ Studio 4 Crashes when the converter attempts to convert them. So is there some other terminal command that I might run that would take care of some other problem?
Of Course, I made a duplicate of the main folder and all of the sub folders and files before I started working with them by using the terminal command. So I could go back to the original and begin again. Is there some other terminal command, or commands, that I could run on that batch of .DUF Homemade pose files?
I'm just trying to see if I can get them all converted from Genesis 8 Into Genesis9 Pose files.
But, there are no NaN stings in the file you posted, if you have a file with a NaN i it, please post it here so I can see where that NaN is.
OK, then I would say that the terminal command I used was correct, and eliminated all of the NaN Issues, probably replacing them with zeros, as that is what is in the terminal command.
This file conversion script for DS 4 Still crashes with these files. Do you see any reason why that script should crash, and of course cause a crash with DS 4 Instead of converting the files?
Some of my files it has converted, but it crashes with others. I'm trying to find out why it crashes, and if I can correct that, and get all of the files converted.
Not sure, as I still haven't seen a file with NaN in it, if there were none in the file to start with, your replace didnt replace anything at all.
Usually when a controller shows NaN, it's not because there is an actual NaN somewhere, but somethiung that isn't a number at all, ike anyhting except a number, or the item it tries to display is missing.
Hi guys. Upgraded to Tahoe. Studio 25/26 alpha runs fine. Recently updated to the last alpha. Now the interface is supertiny. Actually the whole app window takes only 1/4 of the notebook screen. How can I change that?
That is a "work around" for the issue with Qt 6.10 where it eats memory if you run on a scales 4K+ screen.
If you scale the screen to default scale it will be better, or use a non 4K+ screen, or wait until Qt has fixed that bug.
Another update to DAZ Studio 4 Has been released. Does it run any better than the previous version? I haven't updated, but the version I'm using, the previous version, crashes all the time in emulation mode on my Mac studio, with Tahoe as the OS. If I update, will there be an improvement? Does anyone know?
The updates, I Have found, sometimes make things worse.

The changes are minimal, but the main change is the remove of 3Delight as of license expiration, as I understand it.
I haven’t tried it yet (I’m on Tahoe/26), but plan to this week.
