Imported prop not saving correctly

I import the prop.  Looks great.  I save it as a prop, it says looks like it save.

I get the thumbnail but when I try to open it up again all I get is the anchor showing where it should be.  I checked surfaces, thinking that it may have saved without the textures.  But there is nothing there.

Has anyone else had this issue?

You saved it as a Figure / Prop Asset... or a Scene-Subset ?

What do you mean by" ....the anchor showing where it should be" ?

Also, what did you have selected in the Scene when you saved?

  • I think I figured it our.  The item was in imported with several parts (so that each part could be rigged).  I grouped them so they would be one asset, but when I saved them as a figure/prop asset it didn't save anything or just the top import.  The anchor (the x,y,z axis shown when you bring an assset into the scene).  It brought in an anchor indicating something was there, but nothing showed in the window and there were no surfaces indicating the asset was there at all.

Figure/Prop saves only the primary seelction - no children (or parents if a child is selected0. Scene Assets will let you save multiple items at once, or save each individually and save a Wearables preset for the group marker.

All props/ figures in DS should be a single model file. Don't model as several model files if you can help it - that was a mistake I made when I started rigging models myself. When you do the rigging in DS is the point when you define how different parts of the model move relative to each other. If there is sliding or rotating motion relative to two separate bits of the model, unless there is an obvious hinge line along a facet edge, be sure the facets on each side of the joint share no vertices. This modelling feature is created in the obj file prior to importing into DS. In your modeller, if you can group parts of the model together with a group name, that will make the rigging easier. I have done a rigged jewellery box with opening lid, catch and sliding drawer. It seems logical to have four separate models (the catch, lid, body and drawer), but DS forces only one model file. The catch is one group. The lid is a second group, the body a third group and the drawer a fourth group. The rigging process in DS creates the bone hierarchy you expect to see in the scene tree. Regards, Richard.

Thank you!  I created a dresser in blender.  When I imported it I importedit, each drawer imported separately, then I tried to combine them into one asset.  Then I tried to save it as a single prop.  It saves if I save it as a scene asset.

How did you export ? with what format ?

If exporting OBJ format, it should be a single OBJ ~

  • It should come into DS as a single obj file. I'm really surprised it works as a saved scene asset when imported as several files as internally DS is supposed to keep track of them as separate models.

The Jewellery Box I was referring to that I did was here: https://www.renderosity.com/freestuff/items/91116/jewellery-box-prop-corrected-zip

    Image:

The actual obj file I used to get the model into DS is attached. You will see there are a number of groups as well as surfaces. The groups were used in that rigging process.
