Non-DAZ products need a large disclaimer (read: I'm an idiot)

So I just found a wonderful set of landscapes which would perfectly suit my needs for a scene.  At a great price, too (<$10 for a 4-scene bundle).  Fantastic.

...except that it's for Carrara.  Only.  There is no DAZ installer, DIM can't find it , and DAZcentral can't find it

I'd consider requesting a refund but it's almost more trouble than it's worth to do that, so I'm going to let it sit as a reminder of a lesson learned, but it would be a boon if there were a note somewhere, like

NOTE: This product is not directly compatible with Daz Studio.

so that idiots like me don't jump with glee, drop it into our cart and then wonder why it's not showing up in any of our content installers.  Just saying.

you can always buy Carrara enlightened

The product pages do show compatible software. You are probably just in the habit of looking past that. For example, see attached screenshot.

In the store, you can also filter by Software, so you can select Show Product Filters and check Daz Studio 4.24.

The caveat to that is that a lot of products that only show Poser as compatible software are, in fact, compatible with DS.

I'm just surprised to encounter assets in the Daz store that aren't compatible with Daz.

As far as filters go, I would like to be able to set up a default set of filters and not have to apply them every time, but that's probably neither here nor there.

Daz3D, the company, owns multiple programs, of which Daz Studio is the most prominent. A product that's compatible with Carrara, or Bryce, is still compatible with Daz even if not Daz Studio.

I am of course a Carrara user kiss

    but ...

    I buy Bryce stuff too

rarely use it but grab stuff while I can because one day it might be gone

we lost a huge amount of Carrara content one store cull crying

just saying for those who don't use a program now but might one day try it

oh by the way, one thing to bear in mind, while DAZ studio is faster when everything fits on your GPU

Carrara is considerably faster than D|S if it does not

which for me is often the case with those big Howie Farkes scenes

    coupla questions:

    * Can one import a ds scene into Carrara?
    * Is Carrara slated for discontinuation (thus its currently very low price)?

"Discontinue" isn't really the right word, Carrara just hasn't been developed in a decade or so. I don't know that Daz has developed it (or Bryce) since they bought it.

They did develop them for some time after buying them, and released several major versions.
But the latest version was published more than 10 years ago.

no longer in development but yes it loads duf files with some caveates

Genesis 3, 8 & 8.5 crash it due to a mismatched typo in the several bone/node namings

Genesis 9 needs conversion to blended weight and resaving as a new character preset as does all the clothing

Strandbased hair won't import as mesh only useless lines

but Carrara has dynamic hair of its own

dforce doesn't import you can use dforce2morph though to create and save matching cloth poses

many props need to have the U on the UV map tiling unchecked

however Sparrowhawk made a plugin to do this

    those are some main ones

the CPU based render engine is not bad, it's better than 3Delight but not as good as iray but if you don't have a Nvidia card it is much faster than iray CPU

you can always just use it to render backgrounds
