Very nice! Yes working in 3D space for real is very different, than 2D in feel. There was a review channel that I found that was very good, but I lost the link. I will post it if I find it. Very thorough. There are some affordable ones here with decent features.

thanks aurora tech is a go to channel, also mytechfun for testing things with honesty,

seldom trust others, Nathan Builds robots isnt bad,

a lot of rubbish out there in youtube land.

I use a creality printer, so far so good, their after sales non-service is legendary, so don't buy a Monday printer,

    E3V3 very simple, very stable.

Bambu lab has a locked ecosystem - or are tring to have - so beware if you go that path

I made that mistake with the XYZ DaVinci printer, is tanked basically, flags it's own expensive filament as not genuine, no support outside the USA

its in a corner of my laundry long forgotten

Hmm sorry to hear that Wendy.

Mine's been handy so far fingers crossed. You know that expresion 'give a boy a hammer and the whole world becomes a nail'.....

So far I've made a zillion surfboard fins, a few tablet stands, some brackets for my caravan, a cover for my sewere alarm thingy, salt container lids, solar panel holders - and some weird sculprure thingies/.

Windows 3d builder is a gem if you ever need it s- imple as, has good booleans.

Carrara is good for organics but for simple geometry 3d builder is goodererer , comes free with windows 10

Tinkercad on line is okay but cumbersome

  • Interesting thread.  My right arm is in a sling so unable to type easily.

Wendy, your printer's makers seem to be dead and gone (so to speak).  But a quick search showed many links for attempting to fix the problem you describe.  Maybe help is out there now that wasn't before?

I have 'new' neighbours who have turned out to be feral.

They have built a huge deck right up to my boundary and have glassed ballustrading and sit at their stools and watch me in the garden and look down to where I am working

and tell me how beautiful it is to look at my garden. Thare are special kind of wits.

The deck is nothing like the application they put into council. So I have to address that, I need time for that for other reasons. The deck is supposed to be at least 90 cm from the boundary maybe more.

Their kids get in the spa till all hours until I yell at them to go inside so we can sleep.

The father tells me he can't do anything. Just to yell at them - very relaxing for us.

In response I have a truckload of tree seedlings coming (the neighbours had the audacity to cut back outr fully grown trees to about a metre on our own land while we were away on holidays.)

I am presently printing a few of these "Trail Cams" to leave on the border of our property in conspicuous places to try and stop them trespassing.

I downloaded the original file from thingyverse then redesigned it.

i presently have alexa playing relaxing piano music very LOUDLY so I can't hear the spa party.

The Dummy Can original free file Dummy Trail Camera by spartacusisfree - Thingiverse

    my version, Carrara render,

the lens hole will be covered by a glass cabochon (you use them for making doll's eyes) , I still have to print out the aerial

the redesign done in 3d builder, it's a simple program that uses simple techniques but works okay - great for booleans

and the end product is good to three d print as it fixes glitched automatically

I have a real trail cam in my backyard hoping to see possums etc but only seen cats so far

  • HeadwaxHeadwax Posts: 10,385

I have security cameras around the house itself,

So far I have caught water dragons and an owl and the occasional Noisy miner and a zillion moths, a cat,

and a possum that loves to sit on the solar panel

and a nutty woman who wandered around near our front door

err and a rat I think

I have very clear footage of a rat in my gutter on my above front door security camera and a brushtail possum under my front verandah, crows, noisy miners, magpies,  doves, pigeons honeyeaters bathing in the water bowl put out for cats and of course cats, moths, spiders ( on the camera lens)

    no owls

Methanie dropped by once mistakenly getting the wrong house and her male counterpart Fenton Al,  who pointed out my camera, I resisted the urge to say anything more than they had the wrong house, I personally think they didn't, they were seeing if anyone was home as never seen either on my street before

Great possum pic, ah what goes on at night we can only dream of, the stars are mute, the moon keeps its own counsel , lucky for us , but the cameras and  the streetlights keep their own diary ;)

3am this morning we had 6 teeenagers ( the girls are the worst! ) rock up in the street out front of our house.... then it all started!

    never a dull moment lol

if it's like mine, it broadcasts a wifi signal you connect your phone to like you would a tower or modem and  use the app you download, I use my iPad, annoying thing is after viewing and saving any videos I have to reconnect to my modem as it stopped doing so by itself after closing, not a big deal but get caught out when no internet signal sometimes. It also self charges with its own solar panel.

the footage is from my security cam, thats plugged into a powerpoint and a cable run through my vent, it too uses an app but sends to the cloud via my modem with regular bugging from Swann security to buy a plan
