I would have bought it despite having no Iray shaders. But ... the architectural part is somehow of. The upper part of the wall besides the stairs looks like it is made of separate slices. Very decorative, but makes for an instabil wall.

Now if I would render a magically enforced mountain retreat, I would be find with the set. And the atmosphere is great. For now, it found it's way into my wishlist.

    "should"?

I really love Iray, but if a PA creates a set without extra Iray support, then that's the way it is. I'm in no position to make demands. Some things don't work in Iray, but work great in 3Delight. This set seems to be optimized for 3Delight.

If that means that I will (or ill not) not buy the product in the end is a different topic.

I'm not "spouting". I merely pointed out that *I* am in no position to demand things.

Perhaps it's you who needs to select your words more carefully.

I can understand the disappointment of not having a product in your chosen renderer. I feel this way occasionally when something made only for IRAY, since I do not use it.

We must remember that this is the PA's choice. I am frankly glad there are PA's still using 3delight.

Sometimes it will work pretty well in your chosen renderer anyway. You might ask someone who has this product to do a test IRAY render for you.

We're at a transition stage,  At this point DAZ is still accepting 3Delight sets,  and still selling thousands of products that are not optimized for iRay.  If you like the look of it,  it's not an insurmountable challenge to get it looking good in iray.   It's your choice whether or not you want to buy it,  in the same way it is my choice what I decide to model and set it up.  Currently I do not have a computer system that will deliver iray renders as fast as 3Delight can.  Simple as that.  Disappointment isn't really the issue here.  Nor in a free and democratic society is anyone going to tell someone else what they "should"  do.   If its useful to you buy it,  if not,  don't .  It's all good.   There are iray optimized lightset only products,  just as there are iray shader only products out there.  I'm sure some people will figure out a way to make it work for them.

Then there are artists who buy products here and take the models into Reality,  or Octane,  or Vue.  And somehow they manage to make artistic magic with them.  It's a big 3D world out there  with thousands of possibilities.

I'll do a straight out of the box Iray render of the set and post it,  it'll probably take at least a few hours because it'll be a cpu only render that'll toast my laptop.

Alright,  In Iray.   I'll post a small tutorial amd settings if anyone needs them.  Used Dimension Theory's most excellent HDRI environment,  as the background.

Was actually not as bad on the ole laptop as I thought it would be.

Personally, I wouldn't mind if there were no presets for the textures...just the raw maps.  That way any renderer could be used without worrying about converting anything.

Am I reading this right? A brilliant new set that was almost an insta-buy ... except no iRay shaders?

There are also products with just I ray shaders but not everyone uses Iray, so it seems that is something we have to life with. It would be better to have both shaders Iray and 3Delight.

For what it's worth, and that's not much. I am like Novica and don't really use Iray. I am lamenting the fact that DS seems to be making 3DL the red-haired, third cousin, of the wife's half brother. Choose your weapon, and load it accordingly. Thank you First Bastion for a terrific product.

this is one i did in Iry tonight using the default textures & Uber Iray shader applied to them, The I used my own camera and added 2 g2f characters.  then I applied & used The Iray preset sun dial setting,  then moved the sun so it faced the cliff wall set my ground shadows at 1.2 I added a little yellow to the tome map settings Iray.  the set up time about 1/1/2  hours with 2 characters

I  rendered it at 1080hd. render time about 2 minutes  I thinks this looks pretty good for basic settings :)

On chance of getting this post deleted by the mods:

It's the tone that makes the music, acanthis. Just like calling statements that don't agree with your way of expressing things "righteous indignation", it's not sounding very... nice.

I remind myself every once in a while, that you don't hear the tone of voice when you write on the internet, neither see the expression or the twinkle in the eye.

    Peace. heart

  • Whenever you feel like complaining about lack of shaders for your preferred renderer, think about us poor Posers users, we get nothing at all. At least you have a choice :3

It seems impossible to express an opinion or a like or dislike on these forums, so maybe it would just be better if the TOS were changed to expressly prohibit all comment that is anything other than positive. I am now going to consider that to be the de facto position so that should avoid any further righteous indignation!

Acanthis, it's not impossible to express an opinion, I don't disagree with your position as it is... yours. I did, though, have a related comment that countered your stance. When anyone posts an opinion, it opens the door for equally valid counterpoints. If this were not true, then the forums would be filled with single-post statements of POV. So long as we agree to debate the position and not defame the debater (or vendor, artist, admin, etc.) it's all good. Through these debates, the vendors and artists get free focus groups on which to base further projects.

I can, however, sympathize with your opinion on the forums. I, too, get frustrated when I ask about a product's functionality and get scores of work-arounds.

I believe in healthy discussions. Little bit of give and take,  pros and cons,  positives and negatives.  Respectful open mindedness.   I heard all the valid comments.  And I appreciate the feedback.  It is always beneficial.  So I'm going to have to probably grab that new computer sooner rather  than later.

I am also grateful for all the additional renders Ivy posted.

I'll be adding this iRay material version scene as an update to the product.  How fast it makes it through DAZ testing is another question but hopefully before the intro period is over.  So let's just say;  we all win!

Glad to see Iray shaders coming, even though i have Iray shaders for many materials. Kept me from buying this right away.

I buy things I like that fits my needs,  if the product needs a work a around because they weren't designed for my needs. I have no problems re creating the item to fit my needs .  Your stuff rocks I have used tons of your models in my animations & printed works  with very little tweaking.

when I saw you released this set, I was like wow!  this will be so great with the High Cliff Crossing set you have as well, and it does.  High Cliff Crossing set is one of my main stay sets for my Karate girl animation series.  Irays is very cool especially if you have the proper tools to use it. But at this stage in the game 3delight is still the best choice for animation using daz studio, so that was why this set is a no brainer in buying it for my Karate girl series.   I look forward to your release of the Iray version . But it was not a requirement for me to purchase this beautiful set . BTW when applying Iray Shaders to the sky dome I added a little gray to the defuse color to make the sky more blue.  for the lighting I just use the default Daz Iray settings. I dunno if that helps anyone

    Peace

Looks like the OP removed his original comments,  but in case anyone is interested,  the product has been updated to included an Iray preset that delivers the image posted.  Thanks.
