Heads Up for Iray Converter - Gens Conversion

Just a heads up for those who want to buy the Iray converter... if you also want the Gens converted, you need to buy the bundle, because it contains the Gens conversion as bonus files. The single products (Genesis/V+V4) do NOT contain Gens conversions.

Yes I created and added the conversion files after both the products were finished and tested.

The transfer of a new shader from the skin is a reccurrent issue people meet since "Amazing Skins" and also with "Wet and tanned skins", I always had questions of people asking me how to set up the same on the Genitalia. I realised that the most efficient way was to write a script doing all the job. When I finished it, I created a bundle with both the products, and added to it the script to transfer the Iray material and settings from the skin to the Genitalia.

I wasn't trying to point fingers, just give a heads up that you need the bundle to get the gens - I almost missed that part in the ad, and I'm certain some others did, too - impatient to buy this product! :-)

By the way, congrats, you created a wonderful item here. Conversion is really simple, and the result is excellent.

This isn't exactly on topic, but I just wanted to ask you and other vendors of scripts to consider selling them without encryption. Scripts I can't update or adapt to my needs are not useful to me.

I'm not going to debate this as I know the reasons for encryption, but IMHO with simple scripts like this the disadvantages outweigh the benefits.

Scripts are encrypted for a reason. It prevents others from stealing your code and releasing a similar type product using your information. Developers have to protect their IP's, regardless how complex or simple the script is.

Thank you for the feedback!!! Well no worries, I had understood it was just an informative thread that you made, and this was a very good initiative you had. I just wanted to give more details, but I was not really clear the way I wrote it (I had a hard hard day yesterday because of the initial distribution issues).

Thanks a lot for sharing these images, I took the option of not showing a "before converted / after conversion" in the promo images. Maybe I should have, because when I see your images, well it is really a good example!

Hi, I understand, when I tried to learn how to script I was so disappointed to find so few examples too. Now I understand why.

Well, if the codes I rely on were not encrypted, anybody can reuse or adapt them and make their own commercial products out of them. Making a script is not easy, for me it is a lot of work. When you say "Simple Script".. simple, maybe for someone whose job is scripting. But one year ago I could not script and I had to learn how to do that, and with the time it required to do so, I cannot imagine making them unencrypted today. For me it was not "Simple". It was a huge amount of sweat and efforts to go from "I'm not able to script a single line" to "I create products relying on scripts and shaders". In brief, it is Zev which sumarises the best the situation :

    Thank you Zev!

But for now, the only not encrypted scripts of my products are and will remain the ones largely relying on the samples scripts provided here by Daz.

I wonder if I have some installation problem on my Mac.  When I try to run any of the base scripts for the Iray (Genesis or Gen4) converter, I see in the log:

Loading script: /Volumes/Disk/My DAZ 3D Library/People/Genesis/Materials/Iray Converter for Genesis/GnT !01 Apply Iray Materials On Genesis MAG.dse
Failed to load script: /Volumes/Disk/My DAZ 3D Library/People/Genesis/Materials/Iray Converter for Genesis/GnT !01 Apply Iray Materials On Genesis MAG.dse

Note that (due to disk space issues) I have my content library in a nonstandard place.  I think the scripts may have an issue with that.   I have verified that the file /Volumes/Disk/My DAZ 3D Library/People/Genesis/Materials/Iray Converter for Genesis/GnT !01 Apply Iray Materials On Genesis MAG.dse does exist.

I had this error but on Windows - For me it was because I was trying to run it in the Beta version rather than the latest 4.8.0.59 so perhaps check you are on the latest version before doing anything else

Thank you for this answer !  This is the right one, this message typically pops up when you did not update to 4.8.0.59.

Previous versions of DS cannot read the scripts. This is now mentioned on the store page, and an update to DS latest version will solve your issue.

For the other posts, sorry, my children brought a vilain virus back home, and I cought it, I'll try to answer everything tomorrow when I feel better.
