Content Libray is now jumbled. Help I'm lost in my library folders!
I bought a few things from Renderosity and Renderhub. Downloaded them, unpacked them, then copied all the files into my Daz library. I then updated my metadata and went looking for the files.... BUT, now my entire Content Librabry Tab is a mess. The drop down "My New Daz Library" which is where 95% of everything has been going into for the last several years looks nothing like it did before. Files that were mostly catgorised like all the files with Genesis characters 3-8-8.1-9/cloting/ etc that were all neatly set there are gone. Even the "Model Folder" I had created for the characters I make is gone, and those characters got put in a differet Library drop down folder and renamed.
I have not accepted the most recent update as I always wait a few weeks before doign so, so patches can be done.
Last update I did was a little while go for me.
I'm currently using Daz 4.23
I'm not sure how to fix this.

By dumping some files on top, you will not change the existing files, but my guess is you have dumped them on a wrong level, and that has messed up things.
Try to post an image of what your content library looks like in file manager.
That said, I will suggest you make another content library to 3rd party content.
Upon further inspection, it looks like the update went through. I did not actively choose to accep the update, but that shuffling on my content library seems to have happened at about the same time. Now, I am manually going through each and every folder, and building catagory folders and doiing all the oganixing one folder at at time. Yay fun.
In the Contents Tab I have found almost everything I purchaced directly from daz. But anything I've purchaced and installed from Renderosity or Renderhub, is gone.No how that could happen.
The Content Library pane, under daz Studio Formats (or poser Formats, for Poser content)?
The Content Library, I have never touched the poser stuff. But ever section of drop down was totally rearranged:Daz Connect, My DAZ 3D library, My New DAZ Connect Library, & My DAZ 3D library. All the files were moved, relabeled or just gone as in the case of every file I've manually installed from a Daz sister site.
I still don't understand what you mean by "every section of drop down....". Dumping files from 3rd party product packages shouldn't move the files in your Daz Libraries or Content Library. But Update Metadata may change Categories in your Smart Content.
Better post one or two screenshots to illustrate the issue you have ~~
this folder used to have like a hundred characters in it. Every character I boght on Daz, and every character I bought on the other sites and that I manual copy pasted into the library. The two charcters you see now, O just reownloaded and added. My Daz characters got removed, put into another library, but all characters that I installed from other sites, are gone. Not just characters, all assets, everything that was not direct from the Daz3d website.

I've been adding print sreen images to my last two posts but they're not showing
Pasting images into the forum editor looks like it works. But it doesn't. Use "attach a file" to include files here.
The folder ‘Characters’ is located inside the ‘Genesis 8 Female’ folder, which itself is inside ‘My New Daz Library’.
Originally, My New Daz Library held everything from DAZ3D, as well as all the additional content I manually copied from RenderHub and Renderosity. I used to paste downloaded files directly into this structure.
As you can see, the ‘Genesis 8 Male’ folder currently contains zero male character assets.
I’ve re-added two female characters here for reference.
Most of my DAZ3D.com-purchased assets are now stored in a different main folder called ‘My Daz 3D Library’. However, some files are still either:
Within My Daz 3D Library > People > Genesis-characters, nearly all the character assets are now stored. They’re alphabetically organized by character name, whereas previously, I had organized them by creator.
I'm sorry but I'm still not able to clearly get your points. So the issue is that your got no Characters sub-folder under the folder of Genesis 8 Male , right ?
Could you locate a product in DIM > Installed tab, that contains a G8M character, right-click to Show Installed Files. Scroll down to the line of : /People/Genesis 8 Male/Characters.... click to Browse. Then check its Root Folder to identify what it is.
Confirm if the root folder is the one that has the issue as you mentioned or not... Then you should be able to find a clue.
What I’m saying is this: all the assets I purchased from RenderHub and Renderosity—which used to be stored in my Content Library Tab—have been removed entirely from both the library and their folders.
The assets I purchased directly from Daz3D.com are still in the Content Library Tab, but they’ve been completely reshuffled into different folders and subfolders. Many are not grouped correctly anymore, and some weren’t placed into any consistent structure at all. As a result, I now have to manually hunt down and reorganize the Daz3D.com assets into folders I can easily access. Unfortunately, not everything is where it should be—some assets are in the wrong categories, and others are just scattered. I’m forced to open every folder and subfolder and search piece by piece.
On top of that, I now have to go back to RenderHub and Renderosity, redownload everything, unzip the files, manually copy and paste them, and then figure out where those assets are now being reallocated by Daz. Once that’s done, I still need to sort them into new custom folders so I can actually find them without memorizing every individual file name. That’s five or so years of purchases!
Just reorganizing the Genesis 8 Female characters from Daz3D.com alone took me about two plus hours. I’m still trying to track down all accessories, expressions, poses, and other content.
What I really want to know is this: Where did all my third-party assets go?
If you know one of the files from 3rd party vendor, try to search for it your disk and see where is is. That should give a clue.
I see a Data folder in your People folder in the first screnshot, which immedaitely says that at least some installations have placed the files too deep in the folder hierarchy.
Richard Haseltine That's new. My files we're not like that before. All Data and Runtime folders were stored elsewhere before all of this.
felis, I did as you suggested. I found it... in my C drive.
"C:\Users\Public\Documents\My DAZ 3D Library\data\DAZ 3D\Genesis8\Female\Morphs\Warloc\Amihan"
Not sure if that helps me fix the issue. I know they are in there somewhere, but they are not in the Content Library Tab section.
The above image showing Oaklyn and Kukkuttok, is from my E (external) drive.
It looks like virtually all Character Morhs are filed uner the Daz Conect folder. But thrird party accessories, anatomy, poses, and props are not.
If I type in the name of a morph in the parameters tab, I can access most of them.
My best guess, the last Daz Studio update completly reorganized my library, and so far, removed non morph assts. I'll keep searching, but it takes ages to have the computer search through the drives.
If the morphs are loading then the files are in the right place, so the presets should also be in the right place if you installed them as part of the same operation. Are you sure you are looking in the right content directory under Daz Studio Formats?
As i'm re-installing the files, most are shoing like this. When I paste the the Date/People and or Run Time, thhe images of the thumbnails don't show. If I install as usual, I can't find them. But when I install the directly a new folder, I can go ther.
That is too many folders - the data folder needs to merge with the one in the base content directory (My New Daz Library). Those are not user-facing files, they are hidden files loaded along with the figure which enable the morph sliders and are read for the actual shape changes once the moprh is used.
Why is it doing that?
When I copy past them I paste them here. They seems to install as they used to, but I can't find them. That's the Amihan data and people files. BUT, when I scoure the folders, she's not there. But I can access the morph slider by putting her name in Parameters.
I don't know how to fix this?
I'm wondering if this requires uninstalling Daz, reinstalling, then re-installing all sister site assets?
Reinstalling Daz Studio will not affect your content. So it will look the same after reinstallation.
So is there a fix? Installing 3rd party files is not longer an option. I don't know how to fix Content library. Is there a way to reset, or correct this so that 3rd party files will install as normal?
The data folder will be hidden in Daz Studio - being able to see it is a sign that things went wrong. If Daz Studio is open when you install the files you will need to right-click on the content directory in the Content Library pane and select Refresh.
I've hit refresh a few times. I still don't know how to fix the issue.
I have no idea why.... Again, dumping files from product package and/or Update Metadata shouldn't move / remove any existing folder / files in your Daz Library... unless you accidentally did something wrong like moving / re-organizing the folders and files... etc.
Therefore I'm afraid you have to clean the mess manually and CORRECTLY re-install the missing products.
Hi everyone,
I'm trying to re-install all my Daz content onto an external drive. I followed a tutorial and watched a video by The WP Guru. I created the external folder as instructed, and the files are being installed there.
However, I'm still seeing files being placed on my C Drive under Program Files > Daz 3D.
In Daz Studio under Smart Content, I can see the assets, but even after installation, they remain greyed out.
I tried switching back to the default directory. The assets become usable in Smart Content, but it still prompts for an update—and it's still being downloaded to the C Drive.
What I’m trying to do is have all Daz content installed and used only from the external drive. My C Drive doesn’t have the space to hold even a quarter of the content I plan to install.
Any help or guidance would be really appreciated!
Thanks in advance.
Threads merged - please don't start a new thread on an existing topic, or post to bump.
It would help if you would post a screenshot of your content directory settings in Daz Studio and Install Manager; almost certainly they don't match. What is getting installed to the application folder - only plug-ins and some old shader/script products would go there using the default paths.
Thanks for the clarification on this. I thought it was something different now.
Is this what you are asking for Richard Haseltine?
