my iPad makes a sound like a Sonar, echo sounder picking up a depth charge while it's locked sometimes

    like on old submarine movies

    Wendy,

The "Keys" alert on my iPad sounds a little like a sonar ping. Maybe you have a custom alert set up with it or one of your apps uses it.

I have been combing through everything

the only thing that I have allowed to make a sound when my screen is locked is Facebook Messenger

it doesn't occur very often but when it does, it's spooky

Here's a render of a three d object I printed out today, I asked in daz studio forum how to backe a displacement map onto an obj exported - like you can in carrara

unfortunately it doesnt seem you can

but Wendy put me onto a blender tut thanks Wendy !

even managed to get it back into carrara for a render

the wiggly bits on the edges arent aa loss but displacement  - the three d print turned out okay

the anhk in the bull is a boolean done in 3d builder

    This came out pretty well.

oh the patina is acrylic medium mixed with dirt etc, I paint acrylic over that, and then coloured pencil lately, plus acrylic markers

idea is to get it dirty and less cgi ;)

Copper is great to work with. I love metal work, but it can be nasty business.

I have been watching YouTube videos of Automatons

    some are quite horrifying

I wonder if one can 3D print the parts to make your own

I know you can buy the little music box mechanisms with the rollers that play the metal "combs"

    yes obviously https://www.printables.com/tag/automata

So none of you Aussies ever mentioned the singer/songwriter Paul Kelly to us foreigners?  wink

I am a big fan of story songs, and saw Kelly mentioned today in the Houston Chronicle (!) in a long collection of "summer songs" ("Melting", 1998, a theme familiar to Houstonians).  Having never heard of him, I went to Amazon Digital Music and pretty quickly decided on the "Smoke" album, great bluegrass style songs with Uncle Bill, and with lots of vocal harmony (another fave of mine).  A great addition to my digital library.

I'e been through the songs on Paul Kelly's "Smoke" album now, some very good stuff.  The Amazon music app doesn't have the lyrics, so I found this compilation.  Mr. Kelly writes a LOT of songs! yes

Not a political post - is a travel woes post.

I am heading toward trouble; something I usually try to avoid.  As a sports fan, I have been to about 70% of the major league baseball stadiums, and intend to eventually go to them all.  So last February I bought a railroad ticket to California to go see Dodger Stadium when my team was playing there.  Um, that is next week, and the Amtrak station is in the curfew zone of Los Angeles.  And the hotel I was going to stay at is in the curfew zone of Los Angeles.  Am trying to make last minute changes to my hotel, etc
